awsome job....i like the way ya teach.....i have a problem, maybe you can help....when i go to my 3rd fret and play a c, and slide to the straight c, it sounds like a darn dobro...how can i get rid of that.......butch....gordagnew@hotmail.com
Great job. I played guitar for 40 years and just started pedal steel. I'm playing a 1980 BMI S-10. Can you recommend brands when I step up? I'm looking at Carter, GFI and a Williams. It'll probably be a used one. Thanks again.
The Carter Starter is a very good steel the only problem i've had is that one of the knee levers will go past the stop, which just gives me more than one stop on it. Stays in tune very well, and no other steel has 3 floor and 4 knee levers for near the price.
By the way Mickey, you are Awesome, appreciate the time you put in to help us who are learning/re-learning. Thanks alot
Hey Mickey! Well, not knowing any better, I got a Carter Starter 6 mos. ago and it has been good for me as a pure beginner, stays in tune pretty good, but does have limitations so I'm ready to move up to a MULLEN ;) Now if I could only afford one! How about showing us pups the technique for getting harmonics, I can't seem to figure out how to get it on demand like Rusty Young on Heart of the Night by Poco, maybe you could demo that intro cuz you can do anything! Thanks for the great lessons!!!
hi mickey,,keep up the good work,,ur an awesum guy to learn from,, u definately know ur stuff..but i do have a question,,,is a msa sidekick single neck,, ten string,,3 foot pedel and one knee kicker a good guitar to learn on,, i purchased this guitar some thirty years ago and could never seem to get things going in my favor ,,so it got packed away and sat in the corner untill recently after watching some of ur videos i dug it out and am going to attempt to give it another go,,,
Speedy, its a fair guitar for the first year player, but if you want to spend less time fighting to stay in tune, or getting a REALLY good tone< you would want to upgrade your gear continually as you progress..For now...Exercise and get that right hand moving!....Mick
HI there these videos are awewsome, I am planning on getting a Carter soon hope it works out , I am new to the steel so all these videos help so much .
What kind of amp are you playing through? it sounds beautiful. I love your videos, and I really wish I could afford a decent pedal steel, but I am only 16! hah. I will stick to my lap steel right now, and I'm sure you've heard of the guy before, but check out Paul Niehaus. He plays pedal steel for calexico and iron and wine sometimes. He's my inspiration!
I'd just like to thank you for the excellent videos man.
Zack, this video was recorded with a modified Peavey Vegas amp...A Boss delay, and thats it...Kepp up te praticing and start saving now for a new steel...you know you want one...Mickey
Mickey, super video. I have gotten a GFI U12 2 months ago and am taking lessons from Chris Burke locally. Thanks for the great help videos. I also have a Ed Roman guitar. It is a Quicksilver and plays great!!!
Mickey, You are playinf for more people on the internet than you might have gotten to any other way. I'd like dvd of lessons! 30 bucks is cheap it justifies not selling the steel! Keep it up it's very inspiring- Bob
Like your camera angle on this video. I can see your pedal moves better. Can you do more of your posts like this. Thanks. You have help me a bunch with your videos.
