  • Wait a sec.... that kitchen checker tile floor... 3 trainers... and that church? You're in Felwithe!

  • Reminds me a little of might and magic

  • @butthead6886 i was jus guna say that lol

  • this looks like a early press demo, the game that released in 99 didnt look anything like that.

  • @Lokivoid

    You are correct.

  • 3 years after this is the start of the longest going mmo

  • Some of this is really cool I wish it would have carried through into release.

  • Wow this is amazing for 96'

  • Where can I download this?

I used to know, but i forgot, any link anywhere?

  • Any idea what place is in that demo?

  • @TommyDaGreat Looks like the Temple of Marr in Freeport.

  • lol it looks like minecraft!

  • this is sooo cool i am a huge videogame lover (user name says it all!!!!!) and i love looking a my faves mmorpgs and videogames and game systems pasts this is sooooo cool

  • nice first person lol

  • How bizarre, lol. Looks totally different.

I'll be documenting my adventures on the new Fippy Darkpaw server. Check out my channel if you have time. I already made a trailer for the server just for fun.

  • i always loved the FP view in EQ i hated that they ditched that completely in EQ2 and went for a more wowish view.

  • well it looks like every everquest

  • EQ is back and in full swing! Ecommons has about 120 people in it, black burrow can have 21 or more, Gfay have about 40+...

i made a vid on how to get in. it's pretty easy!

    WTB SOW PST! haha

  • holy carp talk about old school ultima had better graphics lol

  • I recognize the beginning as the layout of the Paladin guild hall in Felwithe. Same layout, totally different textures and polygon count.

  • I don't remember this, but it must have been an alpha. A proof of concept kind of thing. Must've been amazing in 96, because I remember thinking that EQ was amazing in 99.

  • WHAT!? thats nothing like eq2 =(i know its the old eq but really!?

  • yeah, really! This was likely an unreleased test version of the game, with an example dungeon to show what the engine was capable of.. the GUI is definately an unreleased placeholder.. There are plenty of of vids on here thatll show you what the real released version of Everquest looked like

  • @kellyberger1969 EQ2 is very different to the original EQ, EQ2 is much easier on the eyes but nothing compares to the original.

  • there is a privet sever up with a pop of like 500 but i have no clue how to connect to it

  • Find a copy of EQ Titanium. (Bargain bin or "other places")

    Install.

    Go to EQEmu website, register.

Change one little file in notepad (so it links to EQEmu)

    Play.

It's that easy. Free, with many servers and hundreds always on. Great for us poor folks and anyone else wanting a living vibrant RPG world.

  • I can't even remember all the zones in old EQ but I imagine the content would run out and get boring rather quickly don't you think?

  • not really, it's fun just being in a living breathing world not just a streamlined video game you gotta beat.

  • @Keldrath

Well I'd been thinking about trying an EQEmu server but doesn't seem like a big enough population yet.

  • wow I started playing in 03 I cant imagine playing with that lol

  • This was just an early demo that they screwed around with to show to producers etc... no players actually saw it..

  • It was not even a Beta, it was an ealy alpha they showed to someone (can't remember who) to persuade them into something or other.

Basically, they needed to show that you could make an old MUD into a 3D game. It was based on a revised version an even older game (tank commander I think) the studio had been involved with.

Not much is left from this demo seen in this video, a few textures here and there, and I think the stained glass window too.

Anyways, awesome to see it again. :)

  • There are also some commands to jump, hail and what not

  • Aye, much of the command line interface survived ... but lets be honest, it was lifted from a MUD, so it was already pretty mature. :)

  • @EverQuestClassic Wait but everquest didn't come out in 1996,it came out in like:1998 or 1999.

  • @Jesus45U Tanaris?

  • @gadgetvsclaw

    What ?

I'm afraid I'm missing the reference here.

  • This is... ancient. I played original EQ and I don't think I ever saw this UI. Where did you get this?

  • Wow. I can see why they decided to change the GUI...

  • That's cool if you find anymore feel free to post

  • Are you the guy I sent it to?

  • I miss those days soooooo much!!! D:

Please give this back to us soe!!!

  • Looks like the same graphics engine for the most part... They just updated the character models and shaders. Not to mention the interface and everything else lol.

  • ok now tell me this is Doom 1

  • This is what beta in EQ was in 1998 -- not recorded in 1998.

  • I played EQ beta. It looked nothing like this. It looked exactly like EQ classic.

  • this UI almost looks better than classic eq ui

  • Wow, that looks like a different game! I was invited to the beta but I was apprehensive because Verant wanted me to send my credit card information to send me a beta disk.

  • @JigenD

Too bad you didn't, I loved beta testing EQ, along with DAoC and WoW.. but my most favorite memories come from EQ.

  • looks like an early beta version

  • wow, and i thought I was oldschool playing during the Kunark era...

  • @Cervy18

Well, you are right about being old school and playing in the kunkark era... Nothing like waiting for boats and taking 20 minutes to get from quenos to firona vie.
