  • epic. freaking epic.

  • I have seen Betty Buckley perform many times, both on Broadway and in concert, but I don't think I've ever been as moved as I am listening her sing these bootleg songs from Carrie. Thank goodness people had the foresight to record them. Too bad the show died an early death. Viva la Betty!

  • I love this song and what a fantastic scene-----Betty is so great. Definitely check out Kelley Mobley's performance in this scene---really awesome!!! All of her scenes leave you riveting!

  • im so glad they started reviving this show, the only problem i have with the changes ive heard is in this song, they take out carries pieces and its a complete solo. i like carries parts in here

  • Even Betty Buckley couldn't save this show. I thought she was invincible.

  • i still get chills when carries screams no. if this ever gets reworked please dont take out that part.

  • Wholly merry mother of pearl! I'd heard a few tracks from this show and thought them appalling. Now, I have found a gem which now has me curious to see if in this rough there just might be a diamond.

  • proof the music is amazing, the staging is what sucks, and the costumes, and the dancing.

  • This song has haunted me ever since I first heard it. What music can do...

  • what ever happened to Betty Buckley?

  • Ever heard of Google? She is not some "Where are they now" person, she never stopped working. Try IMDB too for tv/movie work.

  • I hope Betty Buckley is involved in the new revival they announced this week. MArin MAzzie is good but she doesn't have that Betty Buckley vocal range.

  • @johnfrank25

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure Betty Buckley is too old for the show... (And her voice is no longer in this range...) I mean she could play Carrie's Grandmother I suppose... heehee

  • @johnfrank25 there will be no revival. recently announced that the reading was just to see where the show stood and unfortunately it will not return to the broadway stage or any stage for that matter...its very sad but true

  • @TheBwayBoy aren´t we all glad you turned out to be wrong on this one :)

  • ugggggggggh so creepy that "THEY'RE ALL GONNA LAUGH AT YOU!" god linzi is perfect as carrie, i hope sissy spacek didn't get jealous or somethign Dx that would be sad!

  • I think the musical as a whole was just destined to fail -- Stephen King's "Carrie", like many novels, just isn't meant to be put onstage, let alone with music.

That said, I really like this song -- Obviously, Betty Buckley pwns it just like everything else.

And Linzi does a great job in the role.

  • linzi is sooo carrie brought to life. she makes me cry in evening prayers and in eve was weak. Dx they need to fix this all up and it would be moving.

  • i totally do not agree, i adore carries story line to pieces. angela bettis and linzi are the perfect perfect PERFECT carries. and honestly the plot just doesn't seem weak to me at all...but then again thats me, and its late so my brain is like half working xD and i haven't reread it in forever. but the plot just HELD for me. maybe just because i wanted it to, to see the outcast RISE UP AND KILL THE PROM AND CRACK HEAD MOM. *cough* once again, my apologies its very late xD

  • @RaWrZzZz No, You're right... The plot is not at all weak... RaWrZzZz doesn't know what he is talking about

  • um, first off, i'm a fucking girl dumbass. you could've looked at my profile. and you simply don't understand, read the book. the girl gets her fucking way, just how it should be.

  • Why don't they just do a movie version of this musical?? I think that would be fun, kinda like a new Rocky Horror meets Showgirls. "-)

  • I feel like it's because most of the good songs were Betty's. I don't think there are that many good songs in teh show that weren't sung by Betty Buckley.

  • madfurby: I think it would be awesome if they did a movie version of the musical, but one of the three writers is refusing to release the rights.

  • @RiverhawktheRouge which is Dean Pitchford

  • Though Betty Buckley is always amazing!

  • The "they're all gonna laugh at you!" sounds like when Mario Cantone makes fun of that scene from the movie in his stand up. These songs are kinda crazy, and I wish there were more recordings of it.

  • well as the old saying goes, great musicals aren't written they are re-written, hope they start re writting carrie as it has some great potential, well thats just my oppinion.

  • did we really need all of those "No!'s?

  • This isn't a soundtrack recording, it's a recording of a performance, all the No's you hear are part of the dialogue

  • but still, ive seen clips of this scene, and i dont think so many no's are necessary. the scene as i saw it she throws margaret into the chair after the first no, so the others are kinda silly. or maybe they changed the scene after stafford

  • do you have any pictures of carries had bursting into flames

  • i hope theres a revival

  • Me too! It would need a lot of work though!

  • Great song, bad musical

  • Was this the song where Carrie's hands burst into flames?

  • yep.

  • I wouldn't exactly say that her hands burst into flames. It was more of a flicker of a flame in each upheld palm.

  • Was Carrie seriously a broadway musical?? That's weird. lol.

  • Yeah, and it was one of the biggest and most expensive flops in Broadway history. Not so much because the show itself is bad (it's quite good, actually, especially the mother/daughter scenes), but because most every creative decision made in this particular production was wretched. The casting (outside of Carrie and Mrs White) was way off, the costumes and sets were hideous, the staging was confusing, and it was directed by a British guy who had no idea what a prom was or how to portray one.

  • Well, not all of the songs are amazing. Several songs are quite terribe. If it was ever redone, it would take some major redoing to the script a score.

  • I've been told that the problem wit the scoer is that all teh songs with carrie and margaret tend to be more operatic and the rest tend to be more pop-like. and that the combination of the two was a drastic failure. some of the other songs, particularly "In" arent that bad in themselves, but they dont work with the opeartic numbers, which are brilliant, although the song "Carrie" was WAY too long

  • OMG, I love this song...Betty Buckley is absolutely amazing!

  • Wow. This is really interisting. This song isnt too bad actually. Last night I found a copy of the working script and the opening night score. If they are working on a revival, i'm excited to see what they do with it. Of course it would need ALOT of work put into it but I think it has potential. Not to mention, I think Broadway is a bit more prepared for a musical like this than it was in '88

  • It's a solid show, despite the multitute of unfortunate choices made in bringing it to Broadway originally, but it would need some serious retooling to appeal to the sort of audience that goes to Broadway today. Uplifting girl power shows are all the rage now (Wicked, Legally Blonde, etc), and the message behind Carrie as is stands is that, essentially, all teenage girls are monsters.

  • there are rumors about workshops going on at the moment for a revival on West End. Can anyone confirm anything?

  • There is supposed to be a revival in the latter part of 2008/early 2009

  • seriously? is this a fact? That´s some kick *ss news!

  • do you know that for a fact? would be some kick *ss news!

  • I MEAN IT, THATS THE GOING RUMOUR

  • hm dont believe it till it happens, then. that rumour has been going round since 2006

  • This one has a solid base to it though.

  • Don't they all?

    LOL

  • The rumor was started because it was briefly workshopped in London around then. It didn't go any further than that, though.

  • how sad

  • These two woman are phantastic!

    The song is super!

  • Can someone post the other version of the song with different lyrics?

  • This version and the stratford one are the same, out for blood was origianlly crackerjack, is that what you mean?

  • No, there was another version on yt where Buckley sings "that's what the boys always say" instead of "that's what the boys do" and some other different lyrics.

  • Well the two versions i have seen have the same lyrics, and my sheet music has the same lyrics, but maybe it was some sort of improv? If it did happen id love to see it ;)

  • Whatever it was, it was an electric performance. The audience went wild at the end.

  • I'd love to see or hear it

  • Where can i get this???

  • I have the Entire Audio. Would be willing to Sell.

  • Is it complete without breaks?

  • Where can i get this???

  • Where can i get this audio, mine is missing the end?

  • Mine too.

  • I have an old vhs reel of a few of these performances. I sure wish the show would be retooled and revived. Of course Betty Buckley'd have to be recast.

A few years ago I had the pleasure of spending some time with Dean Pitchford and his partner in Santa Barbara. He was pretty mum on the subject of "Carrie" unfortunately . To those of you that were lucky enough to have seen the show, consider yourselves so lucky!!

  • I have the manuscript and finished piano conductor scores in pdf...plus all the recordings...great fun!

  • Don't you think the show could be brought back with some changes and be a smash hit?

  • Hehe...nope. 90% of the songs are crap. Those of us like it so much because it's so bad we can't resist. Although, only one woman I can think of could sing Betty's role. Carolee Carmello.

  • I definitely think it should be revived. Other than changing the staging they might need to change 2 or 3 songs and it'd be a hit.

  • @cjmet Not to mention the ridiculous dance numbers.

  • They recorded these songs? I had no idea

  • This was directly from the sound board of a live performance. There was no cast recording.

  • Is it from the same performance we hear here?

  • Yep. I do however have audio from the workshop...just piano and betty

  • I have never heard this workshop...would you share it? I really am interested.

  • Will you share where you got this audio?

  • yeah...it'd be awesome if you could share it...:))

  • @jrbrook76 Hey there, I have most of the recordings of Carrie, and I've never heard of a workshop with Betty. There is one with Maureen McGovern, though. Are you sure yours is with Betty? If that exists, I might sell my soul to get a copy. ;)

  • Oh, awesome! This is the first time I've ever heard this song in an undistorted form (I have an mp3, but it skips). It really is beautiful.

  • THANKS!!!!

  • Thank you for sharing! :)

Out of curiosity, how many/which recordings do you have?

  • I have the entire show....AND I have a DVD of the show in England with Barbara Cook. I prefer Betty Buckley.

  • Is the England production the same as the New York production, or was it totally different? Also, would you mind sharing some of the England production with us on Youtube...?

  • It is nearly the same, but songS WERE REWRITTEN, AND RECHOREOGRAPHED, AND SOME DIALOGUE WAS DROPPED

  • well theres hope. that DOES sound good

  • You should see the score - even the final version they were playing from on Broadway had so many scribbles - even the page indicated there had been mountains of changes.

  • Brilliant

  • I AGREE !
