  • You want serious power get a 3408 and run a set of turbos in a 2 tier arrangement. They come to life @ over 1000 hp and can go over 1500. Check out some of the road trains from Austrailia, 1500 hp 3408s is common place.

  • @MasterWitchDoctor bad thing is in America anything over 600 hp is illegal on the roads. or at least that what I've heard.

  • @CowboyTheHellUp no that isnt the case . might have been in times past, but not nowadays

  • @CowboyTheHellUp If that was true then half the trucks on the interstate would be junked. Who ever told you that is very very wrong. there are numerous companies selling packages putting engine well over 800 hp.

  • These engines were rated @ 475 using a #60 injector. Using a #80 injector the hp @ 2100 rpm was 520. The Cummins KTA would snatch these backwards. My boat had a 12v71TI rated @ 840 hp using a #115 injector and 35 psi pressure from the turbos. These natural V12s weren't all that powerful in comparison to the Cummins 600 or any of the 3406 C D or E models.

  • How does this engine compare to a kta600

  • @nokiaicon none kta 600 has six at 1150 cubic inchs and thetorque is different as in alot more the fuel eco is better in cummins but for raw power 12v71 ia the way to go

  • jesus man don't blow it up

  • Leave the buffer screw turned out I LIKE THE LOPE 12V71. However if you don't have spring loaded fuel racks GET SOME........

    Go GO Buzzzzzinnn Dozen

  • Got to get that idle fixed.

  • my favorite video and i dont know why ,10-4!

  • The K100 is the best looking COE ever built.

I've never had the chance to drive anything with a 12V-71in it, but the last 8V-92 that I drove was both polite, and powerful. A dream to drive.

I have helped with a little work on a GM V16 (EMD 567B) that sounded awesome. It was a little big for the highways, though.

Good luck with the project. I'd love to see the truck at a show sometime.

  • Pass anything but a fuel station. Love the sound of the Buzzin Dozen.

  • Awesome project! It's looking good so far.

  • I put this one in my favorites 10-4!

  • Still needs some tuning.

  • Love that "Buzzin' Duzzin"!!

  • You don't deserve that truck. Cold start then rev the hell out of it. 12V will hunt at idle until oil warms up enough for governor to stay synchronized with RPM. Actually all mechanical 2 stroke DD's do it. Once it is idling normally, you can drive away.

  • @speedskiff2 ur retarded as long as you have oil pressure ur good to rev. why do you think they are used as back up gens? you think when they start them they idle them for 10-15 min to warm them up? hell no start and scream them. the buffer spring and dampner in the gov being worn will also make them hunt for idle. this one sounds like he backed it out to make it hunt. and no not all 2 stroke DD's hunt for idle. as long as u can set up a rack worth a shit and have a good gov they wont hunt

  • @nm9730 they hunt because cold oil slows governor recovery until oil warms. In their day you ran 30 or 40 weight oil. Gen sets run 1800 rpms and their life expectancy is not that of a highway/marine motor. Yeah, there's exceptions and dispute it if you want. You're right about the gift of running a rack. Today's trucks are same as cars, turn key and go. These motors are old school and don't fit that agenda. Ask old timers how many fire walled a cold motor when it started.

  • @speedskiff2 yes i know they ran 30 and 40 multi grade dosent have high enough shear strength that their cam's and multiple gear drives need even todays multi grade is too weak technically. gen sets run at a constant rpm for 99% of their life they were much faster than a road driven engine but cold single weight oil isnt the only reason they hunt. here in iraq they start up at 100 degrees "cold" for here lol and had one hunt all day, just a worn spring. im no towel head if ur wondering btw

  • @nm9730 WOW..hope you watch your back. Declined an offer in the 70's to pull tankers there. Thoughts were one fool and a hand held rocket launcher could make a big hole in sand with me in truck. Stay safe.

  • @speedskiff2 thnks I might try and post a video of my 8V92 powered hemmt wrecker M984 A1 on here

  • @nm9730 email me..will try to send you some truck pics from the glory days. Don't know if address is up here.

  • @speedskiff2 could you send me the pics as well?

  • @yamahonkawazuki would if I could figure how to attach photos. Only good thing getting alzheimer's is you meet new people every day....LOL

  • @nm9730 correct me if i am wrong. but i am thinking that person was saying something to the effect of, cold engines do not last too long being thrashed like that. these old DD's tho. appear not to give a shit. they run for damn near forever

  • Fantastic old Kw. i love it. Have you no brakes on the front axel? cant see any drums?

    Greetings from visti.

  • wow that poor truck, not even a few minute warm up and rite to the floor, IDIOTS!!!

  • turbo?

  • if you did that to my truck on start up you would have a broken jaw do you have any idea how bad it is to rev a motor like that at start up?

  • not to smart to be flooring the motor like that

  • What is the wheel base of your K100 ?? "She" sounds Great....brings back many wonderful memories of my own 12's....had 3 of them....sure wish I had kept at least ONE...had one in a 1969 Pete...ext.hood, and 2 in ext hood "A" model KW's...and None of them "stock"...either. Nothing like a "12' under load and turning 25 - 2900 rpms...twin turbo'd and dyno'd at 740+ hp !!...except maybe, J.Manns "12" at 4600 rpms and 2200+ hp ! You need to set the droop on the governor.

  • Beautiful symphony!!

  • that is bad ass iam loveing your vids

  • you got something to be prowd of i shure would be if it was mine love the sound of the big cam in that detroit its going to be a awsome truck when done thanks for sharing it with us

  • hank when are u going to get the black kw runnin

  • @MrJevonmartin Which one my rat rod or the extended hood? The rat rod is mine and running. The long wb extended hood is not mine

  • mad as!

  • @chevy82250 I think so too. Can't wait to get a driving video.

  • what size injector are you running?

  • i use to work on a pilotboat with 2 screamin detroit 12v71's main engine's in it, man they where loud at full speed

  • @hurremie This one is okay not too loud.

  • @hanks1961kw cut those mufflers off this motor will blow your'e eardrums out

  • @hanks1961kw nuthink wrong with too loud, its 2cycle music

  • @hanks1961kw

    where are you guys from????

  • man that fucker sounds mean niiice truck!

  • Cool ole truck, gotta love the 12V-71

  • @LocomotiveBreth Gotta love the twelve pack sounds real cool.

  • @hanks1961kw 12 pack, or buzzin dozen. aka music to my ears. ( and my alarm clock at about 800 watts lol)

  • That truck is BADASS. I have never heard any engine with an idle like that. Can anyone tell me more about it and why it does that?

  • I love these old engines...but imagine trying to sleep in the truck with that "rolling idle"!! 2-Stroke Detroit Power = VERY COOL!!

  • @FlyinTruckr that roling idle would rock u to sleep i love it

  • good to see you let it warm up a little before giving it big rev lol .sounds good but

  • Love that sound ! I want one ! That rolling idle is so cool !
