@1222brizea - sorry but that isn't true. I have reset several service lights on 450, 451 and Roadsters with the door open with no issues. I will test it on the facelift 451 (2011 onwards) but I don't think they would have added such a thing.
This is one of those rumours that seems to be going around American forums.
Service Vehicle Soon Light- This light will come on briefly when you turn on the ignition
It will stay on or come on if it detects a problem on the vehicle. If this happens, see your dealer's service department as soon as possible,

@NativeDeafMan - You are talking about the check engine light CEL, not the vehicle service light.

@MegaNobleP - a tacho (tachometer) is an RPM gauge so it won't read in kilometres or miles, it'll measure in RPM

one small thing... you have to do this with the door closed or it wont work.
