They are very fast and they are low power. The engineering improved after the HC line was thoroughly vetted by customers. The HCs were rushed to market in my opinion and had several serious engineering problems. The newer machines are better, but the paper path is not straight like the HC, which is its major benefit in a production environment.
Also, be very careful about the 2 cent per color page claim. Ask your sales rep. what kind of coverage that means. You will be surprised.
Regarding the paper path on ComColor, it actually is straight (like the HC) when configured with a right-hand exit stacking tray. When you select the right-hand exit face down tray (good for VDP), the paper does curve into a 'C' configuration, but you have your choice of trays. Regarding the $.02 color cost per copy, it really can be that low (or lower) depending upon your ink coverage area. We have software that shows you an estimate of your yield/page cost based on your coverage. Ask your rep.
I have three of them. There is some good to them as well as bad. First of all they are only 300dpi at their rated speeds. Second of all they don't print on almost any kind of coated stock. Third of all the color saturation is approximately 30-40% lower than a laser printer. If you are printing something that will be used quickly and discarded and where ultimate quality isn't an issue, they're great. Compare carefully before deciding and think hard about what you will use it for.
Correct, these inkjet printers are designed for high-speed, low-cost print applications, not for high-quality graphic applications on glossy stock. There are plenty of toner-based printers out there that can print high-quality slowly and at high costs. This print system is in a class of its own, and for reliability in high-volume environment, you won't find a more robust device for the money.
If Riso wanted to do something good for its target market, it would lower the price of the ink on all of its linejet series. It would also offer the option of different inks. I've tried to argue this to my Riso representative for more than two years, and nobody has listened.
It's a nice printer for what it does but it is severly limited. I'm not interested in debating this with you -- I lost a million dollar a year customer because of it.
I am sorry to hear that. We don't represent inkjet quality to be laser quality and we advise our customers to do likewise when reselling the output to their end users.
Well it's probably not your fault. It never is. But the fact is that our HC5500 wasn't installed properly, had parts taken out of it that were never replaced, and had the head cleaning frequency set to once every 500 clicks. In a production enviroment, that killed us. I discovered it could be changed myself. After I lost money.
If Riso wants to gain some customer satisfaction, it has good engineering and some innovative ideas, but in my opinion its sales and maintenance force is screwy.

The performance of color laser machines that are 1 generation old is now cheaper than Riso inkjet machines, and they print on coated stocks.
Drop by sometime, I'll show you.
