The first time I watched this video I thought they were being assholes, but the more I watch it...the more I realize they were just having fun with him. I don't think they are really assholes, if you know Sonic Youth at all. And I don't think they meant to break that record, after seeing Thurston's expression after it broke, you could easily tell that he was somewhat concerned. SY and Nardwuar are both awesome. It was all just them having fun, not being assholes.

Hm. Sure Nardwuar can be annoying to some people but I expected Sonic Youth would be a little more accepting. I've loved their music for a loooong time. And finally when they get a decent interviewer they decide to act like this? Yet if you look at some of the interviews that other people have done with them, they tend to be a bit more serious...despite those interviewers probably didn't even like Sonic Youth or could make all of the cool connections. This kind of makes me see them in a new way.

in any case, he's a force of nature unto himself and a indeed a master researcher. i think it's a nice occasional alternative to the more natural, conversational interview style.

i love sonic youth (well, not the new stuff so much) but that was a little crass of them to break his record.
