Oh man, im back in the 60s! Neru jackets, bell bottoms, fat hair! It was such a cool time and the guys were so good looking with hair, not shaved heads like i see nowdays!
i saw this same video several times years ago in black and white.great classic tune.these promo film clips are awesome.on that last person who commented on this, wouldn't surprise us if movie theaters use stuff like this back then, because there was no music video channels back then.
I don't know if this is true or not, but I once read that they couldn't find a TV series willing to play this video, so it ended up being shown as an opening short in movie theatres.
I was the only boy of five children,me and my 4 sister"s used to act liket hey was doing this song,i was like 4 years old,my sisters sang and played air guitar,I sit on the back of the couch in my whitey tightey"s beating pot"s and pan"s,we were very poor but we had a blast.I loved those days of innocence and rock and roll, thanks Tommy James for a very beautiful memory.I still love this band.
omg i just commented on a dif video with theese guys and now its up to 3 songs that they've done origonally that i herd els were i wonder how many more they've done
t.j. & the s'dells put on nehru jackets and try to keep up with the times...kickin' 45 rpm record but the album was taking over by this time as The pop- art form. end of an era record
is this bubblegum, yes. Is this psych in anyway? no. Their dress and trippy background visuals are attributed to trying to fit in with the trends of 1968
Tommy James and the Shondells, and Andy Kim played at the CNE Bandshell in Toronto, Canada, September 3rd, 2011. It was fantastic! I got to meet Tommy before the concert. He signed my Tommy James dvd. He signed 8 LPs for a fan. Tommy is such a nice man that you want to meet. He came down to greet the fans during his Mony Mony number.
Billy Idol ruined this song! I always could not STAND his lame version! But it was good for Tommy....probably got a sizable royalty check for it haha!!
i have seen one of these clips and the thing that cracked me up was towards the end of the song these words scrolled across the screen . : goddamit mony , ride the fuckin pony
It's not fair to compare Tommy James and the Shondells with the Beatles but you have to recognize their influence on many bands for decades thereafter. They rocked then and they rock now.
@boomshanka Always hated that stupid chant in college during this song! It especially came out during the rather LAME version that Billy Idol did....oh brother!
@maplespak No, that's what they called a Nehru Jacket. I used to have one in black. They were in style for about 6 months and then they looked ridiculous and everyone stopped wearing them. haha
A catchy, but rather mindless, dance tune of the '60s. The only thing that can be compared to the Beatles is the rather groovy Nehru jacket that Tommy James is wearing, and which the Beatles also sometimes wore. The Beatles were innovative and changed music -- probably forever. Tommy James had a decent band that had a couple of hit songs. The Beatles were far superior.
The band had the song, but needed a two-syllable girl name to stick in the lyrics. That's when Tommy James happened upon a Mutual of New York Insurance Company sign that had a dollar sign in the middle of the "O" and noticed that its acronym was MONY.
He and his songwriting partner had a laugh about what a great name MONY was for such a company, and ended up calling their fictional girl "Mony."
muy buenisima cancion de este gran grupo musical

"Mony, Mony," by Tommy James and the Shondells
