What is the correlation between the father and Sitanda? What has that got to do with the girl & her marriage? I think I'm missing something

Sitanda is their predisesor, an outcast because he chose the slavegirl over the throne. That means the generations to come will be considered outcast as well. The husband thinks that it is his wife's ancestry that is causing problems for him. Out cast is an acursed life.
