About the votebot solution.

Scenario:

Watching a video. Fast forwarding due to boredness or repeditiveness in the video etc..

I think you should be able to vote after watching a video like that. As you express it there would be far less legitimate votes. However the ammount of 0-votes would also be cut down greatly.

The minus is far too big in my opinion. Plus many people might get pissed by this. I would.

Say that the video should have been played for 30 seconds or so to improve. out of space

I don't like your vote bot solution. I have watched videos that I truely hated. I could not watch them all the way through. Now you want to force me to watch in all the way through just to say how much I hated sitting there and watching the whole disgusting thing. I hate votebots as much as the next guy, but this is not the answer.

I have sent PM's to Sxephil, WhatTheBuck and the MakemeBad guy to ask them to make an appeal to Youtube and help save our channels. I don't expect them to make vids about it but we need "The Big guys" to put this in the spotlight, we aren't visible on the front page.

the problem is a votebot drops 40, 60, even 100 one-star votes on a video in a single viewing. whoever is botting has some kind of software that manipulates the rating number, but there's no corresponding rise in views.

as for Fred, i've never seen one of his videos. until i saw him on tattooskin's video the other day, i thought fred was a grown up.

i wonder if fred is immune from being false flagged? takedowns are automated if a video takes a lot of flags in a short space of time. by no means am i advocating a FF campaign, i do wonder though if the 'popular' channels got abused whether YT would THEN do something to tighten the system against easy abuses.

well, after getting botted the first time, my subs doubled. so you could argue they actually backfire as regards censorship.

Botters aren't actually trying to censor anyone. they just like pissing people off. its a form of cyber-vandalism. they get a rush out of it, like kids tipping over litter bins or breaking someone's window. there's nothing to gain except the smug satisfaction that that mindset has of bothering someone.

Mostly, I agree with that. The problem is with those of us who were among the very first targets of all out campaigns. They managed to destroy my primary channel, flag this one TWICE and have only begun to ignore me because I stopped making videos. I KNOW, in this so-called (virtual) community, there is nothing equivalent to antiterror "SWAT" teams. "Free thinkers" tend to FEAR the sword.

it sucks, thats for sure. i've disabled many of my older vids ratings, left lots of really old ones open. if they want to bot my sunglasses video, be my guest. it already has more ratings than views cos of the bots, so is beyond redemption. i feel a hit coming on the open vids soon too, many of my subscriptions have been hit the past 10 days...

Instead of having to rate at the end of the video, what about youtube only allows so many votes per a day. That number is determined by how many votes your other videos usually get a day. Of course there will be a gap for difference say 50

My parents swore when I was about all the time, some of the first words I learned to spell where fuck, twat, arse etc and yet I never so much as got in trouble for swearing in scool and such. If words are left as just that instead of a stigma then it's unlikley they'l be used for the sake of being "naughty". Words are just words, many languages don't have profane words only profane phrases for this same reason....

As for the new channel designs, I think they're doing it for their big partners (movie studios, television networks) who would rather have viewers stay on their channels than go wandering off. That's my theory at least.

i think they should have a strike system for people who flag videos.... if they have 3 overturned flags - the flagger gets suspended.

this way these people who just go around being flag happy, would have to start new accounts far more frequently, and slow them down quite a bit, even discouraging some from the act entirely.

i was also going to mention flagging issues, and your ideas are terrific.

flaggers should have some montoring and sanctions for abusers of the system should be in place. as it is there's nothing, and the system is easier to abuse than it is to use properly.

Maybe if they had to enter their usernames when they filed the flag. That way, YouTube would send a confirmation e-mail to the e-mail address for that username. That could slow down the process even more and make it easier to identify chronic flaggers (gluesniffer666 anyone?)
