Same story as others on here only my "generic" consisted of a Folgers coffee can with a bar of soap, wash cloth and matchbox car inside. My family jokes about it to this day. This video has us howling.
One of my favorite toys as a kid. I just recently found this on e-bay and it is in great shape for the most part. The dome is a bit warped but outside of that it still works and all the accessories are still with it. I am having a lot of fun at 56 with it reviving old memories. Its true, boys never grow out of their toys.
If I may point a clear fact out: such toys were far more realistic and enjoyable back then. I was born in 1992, right at the end of that era, and I know for a fact I would have gone head over heels for this carwash. I would today.
Quick question here - was this the business Mr. Kelly was in before he opened his jazz club/night club in Chicago? (You see, there was a famous jazz club in Chicago named "Mr. Kelly's", and I was just wondering if . . . aw never mind.)
I had one! The thing I like best about it, besides the way it looked and work, was the way the wax smelled. It was in a little tin and it just had a memorable scent linking it to the toy.
Remco really came out with some great toys. I knew kids who had the big ships and they seemed even more amazing than the Car Wash.
i have scene these on ebay before, the next time one is on there, i'm going to buy it, and who knows, i might replace the top brush with a custom made mitter curtain by removing the top brush from the original frame, and mount a custom mitter basket to the frame, and modify the frame by mounting basket connecters, drive arms, and a motor, give the custom mitter curtain a side to side motion, and wire it's motor to the to the convayor switch, so it will turn on and off when the convayor does
I had this toy and it brings back such great memories,, Thanks for posting!

I want to find a Mattel Vacuform and a complete Ideal Super City. Those were my two favorite toys growing up. I am sure EBay would have them.

The car that got all muddy from being in the mud could really use a good car wash from Mr. Kelly's car wash.

Um, I'm thinking about hunting one of these down, but I'm wondering...with this work with matchbox and hot-wheels cars?
