  • was some of this footage shot in mtl (Metropolis venue) ?? please answer :P

  • hes not using 2 pedels hes using a double pedel on his right side you can see it at 0:49

  • arm position

  • where is this foootage from? a dvd or something?

  • well done, changes his clothes in one cut

  • I know matt greiner he lives in manhiem, pa

  • Go crowd for being in time at 0:56!

  • Comment removed

  • i tryed to do the part from 1:00 to 1:20 but my drumstick went across the room

  • I love how his second bass drum is merely for show.

  • ill be honest... wasnt that impressed? for a drum solo i thought hed do something more interesting than the stuff he did

  • wheres the second part?!

  • He has 2 bass drums, but he's using a double pedal on one drum. Wtf?

  • At around :43 he looks kinda like Bradley Cooper.

  • At 1:53 you'll notice he doesn't have a pedal hooked up to the left bass drum at all. He still just uses a double bass pedal for his main bass drum.

  • @HsSharShar and ur point is?

  • @XxTheGoOfYxX I'm sure i saw a comment about how difficult it is for him to tune two bass drums to sound the same or something like that, so I just pointed it out, that's all.

  • I'm not saying Matt's bad.. but it's pretty simple. I mean it's hard to preproduce this but if you look at some other drummers who change time signatures constantly and add polyrhythyms into their music as well this just looks like a simple drum cover. Obviously someone on here will take offense to what I just said and I feel sorry if you do but I just wanted to mention it - don't get me wrong Matt Greiner is still an amazing drummer and more of a drummer than I will ever be.

  • @krp480 He didn't play this solo to show off. He "wrote" it, to appeal to everyone, not just drummers. He had to make it simple, cause to be honest, unless you're a drummer yourself or into techincal stuff, odd time signatures and polyrhythms don't sound too good. If he wanted to show off, he could obviously do something much more technical and impressive.

  • Just when I was getting goosebumps the damn video ends... :(

  • Never compare ANYONE to Travis Barker, that's the most offensive thing you could ever say to any drummer.

  • @Gcam96 What does travis barker do for a living.....he plays the drums, i'm sick of you kids bashing him cause he doesnt rock the double kickers man

  • This guy is so good, he can change his clothes while doing a drum solo and I bet you didn't even notice that

  • @johnmatthewfelix HAHAHAHAHAHA, thats so funny..... why would they do that.....

  • @johnmatthewfelix how did that even happen?

  • @portyMD he mostly do this drum solo on different tours and on this video, they just put together those videos ;)

  • @johnmatthewfelix was gonna ask how he was doing that till I read the description. Fail :P

  • Travis barker is so over-rated.

  • anybody else notice how he changes clothes from Tshirt to Shirt throughout the video? ha

  • Nice 16 inch Zildjian Oriental China?

  • @PatrickWoehrerDrums

I think it's 18". And the one in the middle of his two rack toms is 12", although it looks a little bigger in this video, so I don't know for sure :/

  • @RyEBreaD757 Thannk you!

  • if you can get an extra truth bass drum just for show your doing well...

  • Legend has it that if you were to hypothetically take an Angel and hit it against a drum, it would sound just like this.

  • I guess even Matt needs to wear a helmet sometimes when he's drumming

  • all part of the show...easier to maintain/tune/mic 1 kick drum

  • whats with a double pedal with two bass drums?????

  • @jackthedrummer96 Just in case he busts the first one I guess. Then he just needs to shift the pedals over?

  • @jackthedrummer96 Probably just for the looks!

  • I know most of the people that watch this video won't even know who i'm talking about, but i have to say it. Neil Peart is the best drummer in the world. Bar none. With that said, this guy isn't half bad :) he is pretty good, actually.

  • Why does he use a double pedal when he has two bass drums set up?

  • lol why do people compare other drummers to matt? matt is a beast he went to berkely thats amazing but dont compare travis to him, travis is alright he just gets too carried away with his fills and is just a show off drumming isnt suppose to be for self centering purposes you as a drummer give the bass and singer and guitar feed back with your playing so i guess just dont compare drummers please.

  • I like the Go Pro Matt is using

  • anyone mind telling me the name of the song theyre playing at the end of the vid?

  • @donster95 it's white washed man :D

  • travis barker has nothing on some of the drummers around nowadays so calm it down boyo !

  • I say who cares if he is completely creative or not. If this is what he wants to do then thats that

  • 1:52 = wait, what?

  • eh...i know that he's a super tight drummer for the style he plays. and comes up with sum cool drums parts...but, isn't the most creative drummer when it comes to solos i'd say

  • He has a kick, the left one to him, that is useless.. :s

  • I really dont see Matt Greiner as a solo guy.... Yes, he is my biggest inspiration and role model in the world of drumming, but not a solo guy; main reason being that i feel hes not really a guy who cares about being famous or being known above his band. Oh, and the intro to this "solo" is the intro to Poor Millionaire off of Leveler, thus further proving my point.

  • @DiminishedArmada I thought it sounded very familiar too

  • whats the song called when the band cmes in?

  • @aj777vxz Only the greatest ABR song ever: White Washed.

  • yeah bmth was touring with them

  • @Tom6093 you have CLEARLY never recorded ANYTHING with ANYBODY skillful. doing a simple song in one take is EXTREMELY difficult as it is, but doing a sortof complex song like divisions in one take is beyond comprehention. good metal drummers are better and more skillful than drummers of any other genre, aside from the greats ex. steve gadd. i feel stupid for even arguing about this because you clearly have no idea what your talking about. do you even play drums?

  • Why does he have a helmet on with a camera on in most of the shots, but then in other shots its non existent? Then at the end its there again..

  • @Tom6093 you to name me one drummer of this genre better than matt greiner.

  • @notsoslimshady69 I don't listen to metal.....sorry !!! Progressive Rock, Jazz, blues, Jam Bands, I can't imagine why you would even ask this of me. He's basicallly just playing beefed up basic beats that most professional drummers in more complex genres would lauph at. Sped up beats don't count as a drum solo.......sorry.

  • @Tom6093 Why not upload some of your videos so we can see what a real drum solo sounds like?

  • @keshiasbaby Real simple. I don't feel the need to show off my skill on U tube. Secondly if you are well rounded and knowledgable on different venues of music. Any seasoned drummer can accomplish the feet out of using simple drumbeats and complexing them up a little bit while making the beat fast. Listen to David whecle, Steve Gadd, They drum circles around this guy. Mike Portnoy, Niel Peart wouldn't even be in the same building as this guy. Good competition for this guy ? Travis.

  • @Tom6093 nick barker from dimmu borgir

  • @justinsb92 You guys do realize metal drumming only shows speed and stamina. It doesn't show all the true skill of a seasoned all around drummer. You look at the likes of Steve Gadd, David Weccle, where they play venues where drumming has more techincal and complex details other then speed......right ? Speed and double base is not everything.

  • @Tom6093 You spelled Dave Weckl wrong in two different ways haha. All of these statements are untrue. This solo is a bad example as it doesn't show much Dynamic ability but there are drummers in metal that can incorporate feel, groove and all the nuances of jazz drumming as well as playing ridiculously fast. For example Danny Walker or Alex Rudinger. Just because you are too close minded to realise that metal is more then double bass and speed doesn't mean you can slate it as a genre.

  • @roady05 I thought this was U tube and not Spelling class in school. Listen no doubt there are some great metal drummers out there that are alot more skilled then the venue of music they play. Speed and double base are only one aspect of what a seasoned all around drummer is all about. As for Metal, I'm ol'e school, Iron Maiden, Sabbeth, groups that actually didn't use devil screaming and thrash . Groups that put more emphasis is music quality rather then selling out to the shallowness.

  • @Tom6093 lol a real drummer can see thats not all speed and double bass anyone with a musicians mind can tell thats complex as hell hes not just hitting the same thing over and over again

  • Comment removed

  • @justinsb92 Given the Genre of music you listen too, and what you feel is complex, It only proves my theory that todays standards of music and musicianship have dropped considerally. Matt in this video has taken basic drum rudiments that most highschool drumline people can play, and has just sped them up a little. He incorperates just really fast simple single hits in his fill ins and sticks to a basic double base changing it up with different variations of the same beat. It's not complicated

  • @Tom6093 You have just admitted that you don't listen to metal so how can you even have any idea what you're talking about?

  • @Tom6093 i appreciate that you understand what it takes to be a good drummer, and by no means do i listen to the hiphop shit of today. my favorite bands are ABR, texas in july, and I, the breather. there isnt much special about this solo, but heres the thing - Matt did divisions in one take. ONE TAKE MR. TOM!! do you know how hard that is? when i record with my band, i play one breakdown at a time, probably 8 times until i get it perfect. the legitamate skill he has is beyond comparison. i dare

  • @notsoslimshady69 Okay given that, Any experienced drummer can do divisions in one take. Sure it's touph. But see this is what i mean about todays standards. If it's not hip Hop, It's double based metal drumming. And when a drummer in todays standards does something unique like that, It's automatically assumed that they are better then most. Listen to Jazz, progressive metal, Progressive Rock, fusion. It happens all the time. If your a seasoned , professional drummer, It's a must

  • If anyone thinks.this solo sucks or was under par..frankly, you're retarded. Go try it yourself..ya..that's what I thought

  • Watch some of Matt Greiners interviews, he is VERY humble about his drumming and that is why I respect him.

  • dammit.. now i have to go find @penismadonna's comment

  • @bro4lifeful i know the feeling lol

  • @bro4lifeful SHUT THE FUCK UP

  • so he played the same exact solo in 45 cities? wow. talk about uniformity. what was the crowd chanting in the beginning anyway? what the fuck?

  • @real1acer They're chanting "one more song," lol.

  • @LukeSnyderMusic LUKE SNYDAAA Hows it going bro small world.

  • @real1acer Hey! I didn't even notice it was you :D Long time no digital see, Ace ;)

  • the two bass drums are just for show. you can plainly see he's playing with a double kick pedal

  • I love this band to death but ill stick with Jimmy Sullivan.

  • @furyfro Good luck. He wasn't all that great plus. You know. Matt's alive.

  • Comment removed

  • his new name should be god

  • he has 2 kick drums but he is using a pedal and has nothing hitting the left kick?

  • @MrCodyGranger Matt is a drum troll, enough said.

  • @MrCodyGranger a lot of people do it...2nd bass drum for visual aspect

  • @MrCodyGranger I do too, but it's not for visual effect, it's to hold up my first toms.

  • @MrCodyGranger alot of people do that now, the 2nd kick is for show, kinda like how the rev had 3 kicks bur only used 2

  • @MrCodyGranger The left is just for show alot of drummers do it.

  • @MrCodyGranger for show

  • @MrCodyGranger The left bass drum is for looks and its easier to only mic one drum.. hes using a double pedal. Learn to observe dumbass.

  • @MrCodyGranger Left kick is just for show lol

  • @MrCodyGranger its because double kick drum kits look wayyy more metal than single kick sets, and he probably also uses it to mount some of his shit on. also its really hard to tune 2 kick drums to sound exactly the same so if you use a double pedal it takes that whole problem right out of the equation

  • @MrCodyGranger Most of the drummers have 2 kicks in their sets just beacuse it looks cooler...Some people just prefer more double pedals than two single pedals...And one bassdrum is also a lot easier to tune properly than two kicks.

  • @Jounizky but most people doing double bass use triggers anyways and they dont have to tune perfectly.

  • @Jounizky

Also though, with 2 bass drums one can reverb while you're striking the second one, it gives it a little bit of a different sound, in my opinion anyhow.

  • @Jounizky not to mention one less piece of gear you have to bring on the road!

  • @MrCodyGranger He has two kickdrums and only uses one of them, but he has a double-pedal on one of them. It's about appearance, and it's very common. I don't know of a single metal band that uses both kick drums. It's just more work.

  • @Metalforever132 I've seen people tune their second kick to a separate pitch and put a single pedal on it and use it that way... I suppose if he really wanted he could get a left handed double and set it up to it and have two sets of doubles but that's a lot of pedals....

  • @DavidFletcher49 Yeah, like having a double-necked guitar I guess.

  • @SwedishBerzerker yeah kinda similar idea. Their is a drummer who uses like a marching bass and then a standard 24 and has just a single kick on the marching bass and a double on his 24 and uses it as a rhythm drum and I can't for the life of me remember his name.

  • @Metalforever132 you must not listen to like any metal bands.. and how is it more work if most drummers trigger theyr kick drums?

  • @TheRadrussian1 Oh, believe me, I listen to tons of metal bands. Even if they're using triggers, they're mostly side-chaining it and using both. Many metal bands don't even use triggers at all. Meshuggah hadn't used triggers until they started playing "Bleed" live, IIRC.

No matter what, it's still more work. It's a lot easier to do it on one drum than two.

  • @Metalforever132 Jordan Mancino, As I Lay Dying..........

  • @mosh404 True!

  • @MrCodyGranger it looks cool ;)

  • @MrCodyGranger It's for looks....

  • @MrCodyGranger probs just for looks :P

  • @MrCodyGranger its called a double kick pedal!! spastic

  • I got sad when the video ended... I wanted to watch him play White Washed..

  • You kids do know, fast rythm drum beats are no where near the complexity of progressive Rock, metal, or even Jazz. Any seasoned drummer can make fast tempo drumming beats and add some kind of solo to it. I read alot of the posts on here and they astound me on how shallow and ignorant some of you are. Thrash and metal is just souped up basic drum beats with double base. True techniqe and knowledge of different venues of music drives a drummer to use all types in his solo's . Didn't heari it h

  • They should've showed the song the solo led into...

  • Somebody told me this guys better then Niel Peart, Buddy Rich, or Mike Portnoy. I guess solo's have been reduced to just really hectic fast beast and fill ins, because thats all I heard. Matts a good drummer with skill, probably a little better then Travis Barker, but falls short of being a legend like Rich, Portnoy, or Peart.

  • @Tom6093 for one, nobody is better than Neil Peart. and i would give Matt more credit than that. travis barker is a terrible drummer. but still he is nowhere close to the above mentioned legends.

  • @Tom6093 So I just watched Niel Peart, and Mike Portnoy and each time watched a different Matt Greiner solo afterward. Verdict: NO Comparison, Matt Greiner outclasses them in everything, and especially POWER, then consider he plays 2 hour + sets like that, all night. Those guys might die if they tried that. Buddy Rich, just got done watching him, while his tempo is slower, his understanding of the drum-set is something to be commended. He's not a power player, but at least I won't fall asleep.

  • @na4kai3 I think Peart and Portnoy have awful solos, but Portnoy is a far better drummer than Matt. Look up Portnoy playing the dance of eternity and dig alot deeper into the Dream Theater catalogue. You will see that Portnoy outclasses Matt in every way when it comes to technicality. Mike attended Berklee, he knows his stuff. I don't know about Peart, he was revolutionary for his day but he's kinda outdated and I'm willing to bet many people could play circles around him today.

  • @na4kai3 Brahahahahaaaaa... Thanks for making my day. Solo's aren't just about speed and power. Kids today consider solo's all about fast tempo'd basic drum rythems. Most seaosned drummers are better then Matt is. Ohh.. Obviously you don't know who Buddy Rich is,...because the best is no longer with us. He died like 10 years ago. Do me a favor, Look up Rush and Dream Theater. Mike and Niel have more complexity, more drive, I betcha you think Travis Barker is one of the best. Idiot.

  • @Tom6093 Hey, no need to call me an idiot. No, I've never heard of those other skilled drummers before, but I know one thing, I don't like their music. I personally feel that it sucks, and yes, power and speed is a skill. Ask a martial artist, they will tell you over and over again, power and speed. You can dance like a fairy, jumping over a rainbow produced by a prism on the dark side of the moon until Matt Greiner whacks your China chin out of this universe. No offense to Chinese people.

  • @na4kai3 Speed is a skill, but it doesn't define the all around skill of a drummer. Judging from this solo right here which seems to be just fast rythm and acouple overdone fill ins, it reminds me again of Travis Barker style antics. All show with basic skills. I cannot take this seriously as great drumming. Standards of skill must have dropped in the last 15 years. staying with a rythm and just souping it up a little bit is not a solo of skill. Any drummer can accomplish that.

  • @Tom6093 You still can't honestly say that Matt Greiner has no skill? I hope you're just referring to this solo, since it is pretty basic indeed, nevertheless awesome tho, IMO.

  • @Kayuja Lol. I didn't say he doesn't have skill. But you can't honestly call this a Solo. It's just a fast beat with different fill ins. No use of the snare other then to keep tempo. It's actually pretty basic ..

  • @Tom6093 speed is a skill i will give you that, but this kind of speed is not your usual speed. If you want raw speed with no skill, go listen to Attack Attack! or other such crapcore. Matt Greiner is the perfect mix of speed, precision, and raw talent. I wish i could be as half as good as him. you and the three people who liked your comment are all going straight to hell.

  • @notsoslimshady69 Matt is a decent drummer with some good fast tempo'd beats. But fast tempo'd beats are only one aspect of drum soloing. To a person who listens to hip hop or todays rock, it sounds like great skill. But see here lies the problem. This kind of drumming is one dimensional. A well rounded seasoned drummer uses different types of tempo in his solo's. As well as knowledge and skill of the snare, able to use what he has learned and apply all that he knows. Not just fast beats.

  • @Tom6093 Dude do not compare Matt Greiner to Travis Barker.....Ever.

  • @SmithBluedevil8 ...EVER!

  • @SmithBluedevil8 I know. Travis Barker is SO much better than him!

  • @SmithBluedevil8 matt greiner is 1000000x better!

  • @SmithBluedevil8 I dont understand why you and all the other retards on youtube hate on travis barker...he is truly an amazing drummer (who has crazy chops btw) just because he seems to be 'overly expressive' does not mean that he is an unskilled drummer. he has years of experience in the music industry so he knows whatever the fuck hes doin. I am not saying that travis is the best, but he deserves a lot better than the shit people talk about him all the time.

  • @DrummerDouglaz Okay clearly you are the retard because i never said anything bad about Travis i simply said not to compare the two because their drumming styles are completely different and you can't compare people that dont even play the same genre on music, so calm the hell down and read comment clearly before commenting back and making yourself look like an ass ;)

  • @SmithBluedevil8 my bad? lol

  • @Tom6093 umad?

  • what does his snare say????

  • anyone else get a chill when that fucking guitar started at the end? sickest intro ever haha

  • The 2nd kick drum is obviously used for aesthetics in this case. Plus it helps for an easier kit set up.

  • @joeydrums44 He is most definitely using both bass drums. It makes setting up your kit harder, you have to position both drums just right.

  • @a7xcarter He isnt using both. He clearly has a double bass pedal

  • @a7xcarter - He has a double pedal, he isn't using both kicks. Look carefully.

  • @a7xcarter

He's not using using both bass drums. Pause at 2:00...it clearly shows him using his double pedal, but that other bass drum isn't being used.

  • @a7xcarter go to 1 52 u see hes useing a double pedal a lot of drummers do that when they hit big time it makes the kit look bigger and cool i guess. peace, also its a pain in the ass haveing two bass drums as u have to tune them the same, same mikes, same leads same set up or theyll sound off

  • @tombrill it really not tht hard.

  • @logan996ify it is if u want them sounding the same, it all depends what you want sound wise and if ur into speed metal then you don't want the lag of a double pedal however minimal it may be but bands that can have two kits generally wont have to bother with setting up as theres an army of rodeies to take care of those nigly things. Mostly the extra kick like people have stated just looks cool, each to there own.

  • I'm not gonna lie, I was expecting a lot more than that. Sounded exactly like something he would play in one of their songs. Great drummer, bad soloist....=[

  • Eh, not bad, but I don't see what the fuss is about this guy. His drum solos are more like "songs" without the other instruments. Plus, he seems to use the same fill over and over again--it's not really that dynamic of a sound.

  • he's got a second bassdrum without a pedal on it????

  • @allmetaliswelcome The Rev from A7X had 3 basses but only two were used. He liked the look lol

  • @nmarrufo that's bullshit.....

  • who else realized the opening was the opening to poor millionaire?

  • He needs to loosen up.

  • @spacitydrummer4JC Agreed. He's good, but if he loosened up his wrists and used less of his arm, he'd be incredible

  • why the oriental china!?

  • why have two bass drums if you just a use a double bass pedal on the right one?

  • @kernalhotdog27 Two bass drums in my opinion is more comfortable, not to mention it looks cool.

  • @a7xcarter I know what you mean! Its such a thowback look

  • @kernalhotdog27 It is throwback, and you get twice the projection.

  • hmm im a drummer personaly and for me it wasnt the greatest, good but not great

  • @burninghelldrummer I agree. I'm not saying I can do that, but I was expecting more personally. I've seen better solos from kids playing in their garage... Disappointment. :(

  • A drum solo leading into white washed?!?!...my god...it's perfect

  • I would kill to be able to play like that!

  • If you get a drum book and practice drum rudiments you could play like that in a year or two. The technicality is not that difficult. Stamina would be more of an issue with anything he plays. Go watch some JoJo Mayer or Virgil Donati and then go kill someone.

  • awesome manz

  • what song is that

  • @slipknotjoey2016 white washed

  • @montizzle13 thanks

  • whats the deal with 2 bass drums and a double pedal...pointless

  • This is one of the few drum solo's thats actually listenable! Yea, the top players are flawless and leagues ahead of Matt, but when they're displaying their technical prowess, it just gets hard to listen to! (Despite it being technical as hell!) Matt's solo maintains a noticeable pulse right throughout and easily slides into 'White Washed'. August Burns Red fans aren't all mega drum enthusiasts! They're just a band that love to play live, and entertain their fans! Job well done if you ask me!
