  • Fry, we are the ones obssessed with sex? Not the society which sexualizes everything? We don't think your evil, we just think your a jackass for not doing research and your bias; we just think your view on homosexuality is immoral, as adulterers and pre-marital sex advocates are immoral, thats it. Also, to say that we celibate are sexually repressed BECAUSE WE REFUSE TO GIVE IN TO OUR BODILY PASSIONS are fools is to piss on our intelligence.

I can't stand Stephen Fry, not evne a picture of him.

  • @philipmarie1854 Sure you can — you watched a whole three-minute video of him.

  • @mavaddat Thats like saying you like the Catholic Church because you exist in the same world it exists in.

  • @philipmarie1854 Nope. I'm not the one who said I cannot exist in a world with the Catholic Church. You said you cannot even stand to see a picture of Stephen Fry, but you watched a whole video of him. You aren't very careful when you think, are you?

  • @mavaddat Whatever, you still didn't give me reasons why I am wrong. Besides, I didn't watch the video, I read what he said in the ID on wikipedia and other sites so your empty argument with its empty intent and it's inability to refute other, more important things falls flat.

  • @philipmarie1854 You still see a picture of him whenever you come to this video. So clearly you can stand to see a picture of him.

It is true that marketing and advertising abuse our sexual insecurities to make us want to buy things we don't need. This damages to society.

In exactly the same way, the Catholic faith also abuses our sexual insecurities and makes us think we need repentance for totally harmless sexual feelings or actions.

Both institutions are obsessed with sex in an unhealthy way.

  • @mavaddat We condemn masturbation (setting aside that it may make you blind as thats not the reason we condemn it) because it makes people view sex as nothing but a pleasurable thing and not what it truly is: a symbol of the love a man and a wife have for each other. The same with pornography; it rarely turns anyone into a monster like the Marquis de Sade but it impairs and clouds one's view of people. I used to check porn all the time you know and without sounding crude, i used to think sexual

  • @philipmarie1854 There are plenty of activities we undertake for no further reason than pleasure (e.g., rollercoasters, skiing, bird watching, etc.).

The Catholic Church only condemns those pleasurable activities relating to (non-reproductive) sexuality because The Catholic Church is obsessed with sex.

Face it: Your religion is a sex-obsessed, pleasure-hating institution that promotes suffering as a means of redemption. Your religion's sadomasochism is leagues beyond the Marquis de Sade's!!

  • @mavaddat thoughts so obnoxious you'd blush if you saw them.

Masturbation serves no purpose other than to give empty pleasure to somebody. We're not against pleasur eor anything as we certainly aren't calvinists who condemn enjoying good food, drink, sleep and games but one must be careful not to take them to access. There are people who spend a wekk dancing and partying and yet if they're asked to pray for an hour, they complain at having headaches or cramps.

  • @philipmarie1854 In the end, your failure to accept a good and gracious human being just because they are gay is immoral. There's more science to prove that being gay is a natural thing than there is to prove that god exists.

  • @nousernamesleft14 I don't dislike Fry because he's gay, I just dislike him because he's a jerkass who makes up lies on the Catholic Church, is a hypocrite and says half truths. We don't think gay people are evil; anyone and everybody will tell you that the Church doesn't accept homosexual acts. Just as we condemn heterosexual promiscuity because it is unhealthy to the individuals who do it, to the children and society, so we condemn gay promiscuity becuase it is harmful to the sense of decency

  • @nousernamesleft14 gay people may have. Theres nothing wrong with being gay; hell, I'm may write a story where a gay but devoutly religious superhero beats up some rapists of the same sex who tell him that he's gay and he's supposed to have lots of sex. Punch, and he tells them that he's not a filthy degenerate.

There are camp gays and straight gays. The former don't have to like dolls or put on thick makeup as it shows how pathethic they are. In fact, Fry is straight gay and not camp.

    Unlike

  • @nousernamesleft14 the Nazis or white supremacists, we don't want to force gay people to have sex with the opp. sex to 'cure' their gayness. If you don't feel attracted SEXUALLY to women or to ANYONE at all as asexuals are, theres nothing wrong with that. However, nothing can excuse you form not talking with anyone of a diff. sex and being just friends with them.

We don't condemn gay men for admiring a man's handsome face or lesbians form admiring a woman's poise, just don't fantasize sexually

  • @nousernamesleft14 about them.

  • Yes, because watching pornography on the internet and having one night stands and viewing the human body as sexual and pissing on our intelligence by saying we are sexually repressed fools for choosing celibacy is is A-ok.

I'm celibate and while it's undeniable that I'll have carnal temptations, I refuse to give in to them because I dedicate my life to God and Mary and not because I think sex is disgusting. When you masturbate, your only touching yourself and thats just pathetic. Really, if

  • condoms will save the world. the rest who think opposite may go and f** themselves. definitely!

  • sex is jolly

  • Stephen Fry has a new fan!

  • I hate to sound so crude, but I guess the term ”You got SERVED” comes to mind.

  • Wow, that was, just...woah.

  • @robocrapz It's not just atheists who criticize the Catholic Church's obsession with sex.

Every rational person criticizes the Roman Catholic cabal of celibate child-molester apologists telling humanity how to have sex.

Who's obsessed with sex? Yep, it's still Catholics.

  • Comment removed

  • @robocrapz I love the way you basically say you're either a Catholic or Atheist. Like all those other religions don't really count, eh?

Regarding the subject matter, I think most religions have an unhealthy obsession with sex.

  • @Jarren202 Other religions don't exist. God is nothing more than a security blanket for the weak.

  • @DemonLDR The concept of a God is something that I believe in, but I do not subscribe to man-made religion. Religions are based on segregation, that "either you're one of us or you're not" mentality, which I think is bullshit.

I agree with you that a lot of people use religion and the belief of an afterlife for reassurance due to their own fear of death, and as we all know fear breeds mistrust.

  • @Jarren202 Fear is not an excuse for teaching superstition, fairy tails, and incorrect information. Spending a lifetime in fear is not a lifetime, its a life sentence.

Religion, and the belief in god has past its time. We now have science. Science is all based on fact, and if the facts are proven to be inacurate, then the scentists are willing to change their views, so they coincide with the evidence, where as religion changes the science to match their ideas. BIG difference.

  • @DemonLDR You're preaching to the converted mate.

As I said, I don't believe in religion. I'm agnostic.

  • @Jarren202 lol. Sorry dude.

  • @robocrapz "Why are atheists silent about the catholic stand on the death penalty, abortion, torture, environment?"

Uh... they aren't in the slightest. Perhaps you need to broaden your horizons more if you don't think the atheism communities out there are silent about this.

  • @robocrapz Nothing quite like carrying water for child rapists, huh?...*dunderhead alert*

  • @robocrapz being sex obsessed isnt that catholics always have peninses and vaginas on mind, but that their religious rules are based around the nature of sex and genders and what they believe to be the 'correct natural way' yet they go against nature and lock themselves up in nunneries? they find it impossible to accept that there are other beliefs out there. im not eloquent as Stephen nor am I very knowledgable about catholics, but calling someone 'evil' is completely hypocritical and wrong

  • @robocrapz theres no atheist obsession with catholic view of sex, theres only the catholic obsession with the atheist obsession with the catholic view of sex

    twat.

  • what would FOX news say to this?

  • Catholic Church = OWNED

  • almost everything a man does is to some degree motivated by sex so it's a great way to control people -marketing companies know this very well. that’s why religions make sex such a dirty thing to do outside the marriage you have to pay them to perform.

  • I belive in Stephen Fry

  • @Mrbenybob Me too. This man is Hope.

  • @Paddy234 I even provided the quotation from the Pope where he called being gay "an intrinsic moral evil." Pope John Paul wrote in his 2005 book, "Memory and Identity," that gay marriage is part of "a new ideology of evil." On July 31 2003, the Vatican urged Catholic politicians to actively campaign against legalising gay marriages which it said were "evil, deviant and posed a grave threat to society." So Paddy, would it be fair to conclude that you are stupid, ignorant, and/or a hypocrite?

  • @mavaddat

As i said before NOWHERE does the Catholic church call anyone evil, it is merely the act itself. If someone has gay thoughts or feelings this is not sinful, it is only the act that is. Why don't you actually read the catechism of the Catholic church and find out what it says, so many athiests are not bashing the Catholic church actual teachings but what they think it is and this makes their arguments so woeful

  • @Paddy234 I love how your description of the common atheist so aptly fits the common religious man.

Furthermore, you're an idiot. Good bye.

  • @GDATERRY

There is no common atheist, put a pile of atheists into a room and they'll just fight each other to the death

  • Obsession with sex? No, it is our 'enlightened' media which produces a culture which is obsessed with sex. And look to what effect: 50-60 million dead from AIDS. And condoms are the answer, not a moral life? It is the culture which is obsessed with sex. Healthy attitude? Ignore the dead, the broken families, the trashing of our sons and daughters who are taught to DO IT without consequences which can be rid of in abortion mills.

  • theres only one thing to say about this.....owned!

  • I kid you not, at the end of this video, i practically shouted at my computer: "Oh. Hell. Yes!"

  • Stephen Fry FTW!!

  • I've rarely seen an institution owned this hard. God, what an intellectual massacre.

They'd better just pretend he doesn't exist.

  • YES. This man is brilliant and amazing. :DDD

  • A genius

  • Your responses are moronic..

  • @indebted2chrizt

And so will you if Muslims are right. But luckily, there's no reason to believe either of you!

  • According to Muslims, Allah wants you to believe in Him, but if you ignore Him, He will not keep the jinn from pouring molten iron down your throat on Judgement Day.

But luckily, there's no reason to believe either of you!

  • Muslims say *you* are silly for not believing in Allah. They say that Allah is the reason to believe in Allah!

But luckily, there's no reason to believe either of you!

  • @indebted2chrizt

I don't... believe in anything? You mean like I literally have no beliefs? About anything? Or that I have no religious beliefs? Or I have no beliefs about what's good or bad? Can you clarify?

Also, you think beliefs are meant to be "protected"? No wonder! Your beliefs are so fragile, that they cannot be tested, examined, questioned, or even considered.

Beliefs aren't for protecting, my poor boy. They're for sharing and thinking about.

  • David Cowardly !, he's aware of a grave injustice and will not share !...Please Help Hollie Greig a child (one of many) who had been abused by the Scottish Freemason Government Pedophlie ring ...Please Google or Youtube Hollie Greig, and help share this information...

  • As a catholic I agree..we need a another Vatican 2

  • Brilliant and spot on. Bravo. I rarely applaud at my computer....today was one of those days :)

  • @tondog54 Because you're 14 years old and have a lot more to read.

  • mavaddat: Thanks for posting this! It was my favourite part of the debate.

  • Thanks for commenting, @samerawadh.

    I totally agree. ;-)

  • He is SOOOOO right and honest !!!

    Love this man. ^^)

  • This is WIN. I love it.

  • Glad you like it! @SupaAmi

  • I haven't watched the clip yet, but I have often wondered about this paradox myself. Why do "hardcore" religious people seem to talk about sex just as much as the people whom they consider "immoral" and "wicked"? It's like the saying, "you become what you hate", or "as a man thinketh, so he is". The more "moral" people focus on "immorality", the more "immoral" their views on life actually become.

  • @MatthewMuhammad

I think such an obsession with sex is reinforced by its sheer irrationality.

    Let's think about it:

Do religions that demand strict pre-marital abstinence while declaring the purpose of marriage to be the production of children and defaming homosexuality have any factual basis whatsoever for their beliefs?

I mean, is there any evidence whatever that this is a healthy way to think about our most intimate human relationships? As an offspring churning mechanism?

  • Actually it is perfectly rational if you look at it from their viewpoint. If you have got hold of a bunch of schmuks who are willing to give up the most private aspect of their lives, you have got a bunch of morons you can exploit for quite a long time

  • @vikramkrishnan

    Ha. You've got a point.

  • Great vid! Too bad he didn't just substitute religion for catholic church. They all try and tell you sex is evil.

  • I'm sure he would probably agree that it is in fact religion's obsession with sex. But here he was debating whether or not the Catholic Church was a force for good.

  • @ndyt

I guess there are some sex-positive religions out there. Tantra comes to mind. But I'm not very familiar.

  • mavaddat, lets just stick with main-stream religions, the ones that billions of people follow.

  • Tantra is a heterodox school of Hinduism. Sex is just one aspect to it. (More of a fertility thing). Alcohol, drugs, animal sacrifice all figure in it. It is a nihilistic reaction to Hindu dogma.

  • @vikramkrishnan How do you mean "nihilistic"? Like they don't believe any thing has value?

  • More in the sense of a Nietzschean transvaluation of all values. They believed that by temporarily negating all systems of morality they would achieve greater understanding

  • @vikramkrishnan

That seems a contrary justification of the predicate "nihilistic," since Nietzsche's transvaluation of all values was (in Nietzsche's mind) the cure to nihilism. He saw it as describing the way of escaping the nihilism of the Christian system that says there are no intrinsic goods except that God deems them good, arbitrarily.

It's ironic and (somewhat tragic) that so many identify Nietzsche with nihilism when the goal of his philosophy was to describe the human basis of value.

  • Actually, you are right. I did make a mistake. I should have said a reaction to nihlisitic Hindu dogma.
