CANADA - envoutant à souhait .... à la limite du superbe. On entend du Vivaldi ou du Pacalbel et ses canons et autres belles choses classisantes dans un univers sombre et angoissant.
"The Silver Mt. Zion Orchestra" est issu de "Godspeed You Black Emperor !"
This has been a comforting and beautiful tune this last week. It is an aural representation of how I feel. Either this or Babylon was Built on fire would be my favourite ASMZ songs.
"These hands, could've moved...mountains" - Perhaps once in your entire lifetime, will you truly understand the importance of these words. It's a reminder that one person can achieve extraordinary things - We have no limits, we have no boundaries - we will never be the things that tie us down in this mortal coil. We stretch beyond the beyond, ad infinitum, until stars burn out and universes end - Even when time ends, we will continue to move mountains.
I have a hunch that it's about his Jewish heritage. In the book Maus, the main character tells of how he and other captured Jews were forced by the Nazis to "move mountains" of dirt by hand. I get the impression that this song is sort of a realization of what his life could've been had he been born in that time.
Once left Canadian winter & went to Miami with just $60 & wandered around broke on freezing cold beaches & Biscayne Bay & the cruise ships went by in the night with a mournful horn & my blanket was torn up & the police kept on stopping by & borrowed a discman from a youth hostel & sat up listening to this song ...
It takes 100's of years for cultures to build traditions ~ for me it's like Silver Mt. Zion & others are forming what constitutes American Traditional Music ...
nothing really does what this song does to me. not even countless songs with strings and guitars deployed in slow burning, deeply moving fashion. not even songs by the same band. the first time those strings come in brings me to my knees.

Shitshitshit. Okay, so before you guys go on a spiel about "1 person has no soul/no taste in music" I accidentally clicked the dislike button.
So yeah. Sorry about that. I'd like it a hundred times if I could. :(

I see that you said "the real name of this band WAS..."
Unless something crazy happened, they're still a band.
