  • I just love this man....♥

  • One of the greatest and most consistent male baritone singers, songwriters and performers. Thanks James for being timeless.

  • and he doesnt have to do all that damn screaming and vocal scale running to be appreciated...just genuine thanks james

  • such a handsome man .....and one hell of a singer

  • one of my favorite songs

  • in my opinion @4:07 he deserved a round of applause :)

  • James Taylor has often been quoted as saying, in various forms, and at various times in his very Human life:

    "Dad loves his work."

That comes with the beauty that touches Everyone, and, no doubt, a personal cost to those closest to Him who must share one of God's rare gifts to the World.

For his Soul tonight, and theirs, and ours, may we continue to find a glorious musical reunion in this Life...or the Next.

    (thanks for sharing)

  • One man with a guitar, yet he has the complete attention of every person who hears his beautiful voice.

  • beautiful

  • @keplerdrea Hey you.. 4 REAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Never, EVER feed a troll. Think Gremlins. Believe me, everyone likes James Taylor, when it comes to people who sing of love, your talking about something that will never, ever die.

  • It amazes me how many people don't like James Taylor's music... especially these heartfelt songs... I assume that they either haven't experienced enough to appreciate it, or just have never really let it sink in... This seems to me like something you would hear angels singing. Beautiful lyrics that mean something and a melody that helps it reach your heart : )

  • This is for David...

  • Amazing

  • Wow! What a marvelous, wonderful voice! Awesome song too!

  • i had this concert on an old video tape and i used to listen to this song over and over again. then my stupid sister taped over it!! im so glad ive found it on youtube!! J.T is the man :)

  • I will always live my life to the lyerics of this song

  • beautful

  • yes, it is!.....He's the "man"!

  • preciso da letra desta música

  • you can see audience look of shame and realization of how it could be, absent of ego.

as if they all know this is what it is needed in their lives more often

  • Stop fucking talking about religion i dont care what u think i dont care what sweet baby james does he could worship satan and id still love him

  • A forever fan, James!

  • He has the purest voice

  • great singing + guitar . one of my favorite musicians. great song

  • The guy you refer to with the solo in Shower the People Live is Arnold McCuller, a longtime Taylor backup member...

  • One of my favorite songs of his!

  • ok so its been bothering me to know who the blk guy doing the solo is in the live version. I get soooo excited the nearer i get to his part. Any one know?

  • I am a total Metalhead all the way but this dude's voice is otherworldly. He could be singing about toasters and it would be art.

  • @gbncsrht Thanks for your great sense of humour! I especially need it right about now!

    Take care.

    Love, Bridgette

    xooxox

  • @gbncsrht I hear ya!! I've loved JT since I first heard him. My list of concert tickets show I'm a rock-n-roller, but JT is THE MAN!!

  • I was there!

  • We should shower the people we love with love.

Kiss the ground they walk on. If not, there's always another apple on the tree.

  • he is really an angel.......

  • Beautiful song! And also a beautiful girl from 3:16 through 3:24. Will you marry me??

  • @bakem2 Considering show is probably 50 or 60 now and desperate? No, I doubt it.

  • JT & Carly did many good songs together: Terranova, Monkbird, Devoted to you (Best ever!), Shower the people... you said it Zapkvr, these voices are awsome!

  • Did you hear Crosby & Nash voices in the reel-to-reel chorus? Listen very carefully, these voices are awsome! Great JT! always.

  • @pgamba I still think the best version he does is with Carly on the backup vocals. She has the best voice ever, and I do mean ever.

  • @pgamba really? I have no clue how did u figure tht out?

  • one thing can lead to another; it doesn't take any sacrifice

  • Love this song. He has an amazing voice. I love to hear him play the guitar.

  • James - thank you for the music - a little piece of heaven on earth!

  • wow i love it...sooo great !!!!!

    beautiful

    May God Bless You

    best regards....bro. Ernesto....

  • Amen.

  • I don't beleive in God but James makes the kind of music that makes humanity of all creation the most special. Ther is nothing evolutionarily necessary about this only that consciousness confers on us an ability to give expression to the highest and noblest of emotions. I still like the version he did with Carly best of all. She has the finest voice of all time ever.

  • This song made me cry, especially the a cappella part. A very touching song! Thanks for posting this.

  • That one person who "disliked" this video. I feel very bad for.

  • @BACMusic Lets shower the one person who disliked this video with LOVE!

  • @BACMusic... at least they have company now

  • @09Libertarian Well I'm sorry for your loss of hearing.

  • @BACMusic ..... I was referring to the 'dislike' count having risen to more than one, not commenting on the song. But you are forgiven for your presumptuousness

  • someone went a little crazy on the messages (lazze)... as a sum up, awesome song!

  • Just saw James, with Carol King in concert;great pair, great show!

  • @HUSKY57887 Me, too! Awesome show!

  • Pure. I can't hear this song without singing along.

  • I wish all church-goers lived like this song prescribes...

  • If there is a heaven, someone like JT made it!

    He makes life worth living.

  • If there is a heaven, someone like JT made it!

    He makes life worth living.

  • If there is a heaven, someone like JT made it!

    He makes life worth living.

  • If there is a heaven, someone like JT made it!

    He makes life worth living.

  • If there is a heaven, someone like JT made it!

    He makes life worth living.

  • i would like this to be played at my funeral, it's all about the reasons for being here on this planet. peace and love x

  • second best version of this song i've ever heard. the best was during his one man band tour that I had the blessing to go see at the Wilshire Theatre in Los Angeles, and that was increadible. honestly this song is best done acoustic. Arnold McColour's vocal solos that he does, when James has his full band, saves the song when it's done with a band, but honestly it's so much better acoustically, just some of James Taylor's songs are.

  • A gentle reminder for the cynics out there....

  • One unique cat! Great singer song writer. I'd love to hear this in church ScottyShowman

  • This James Taylor is a part of my life, my growing up, my heartaches and my journey through love and happiness. I simply cannot get over his lyrics and the way he looks at the world. My great "old Hippy" moment was when he sang this at the inauguration of Barack Obama as President, it felt that day as if the whole world made sense and we were on the way to love and peace. The fight goes on, and his music is helping us. Thank you James Taylor.

  • James Taylor is one of the greatest talents of all time. This song is a great example of his ability. God bless you James!

  • Exactly 2:29 Good Music does it to me as well.

I play this for my kids as my parents played it for me, great lyrics, great harmonie and one of the greatest artist.

  • I'll tell you what, I'm a guy who's as big a fan of hard 'n' heavy as you can get, but i got a soft spot for ol' baby james. i grew up on his music, and now his lyrics speak to me in a special way at the age of 21. His music never really changed too much, but man, the guy can give the people what they want. and he puts on an amazing live show.

  • the hart neve lie

  • This is by far my favorite part of this concert. I remember watching it when I was a boy, my father taped it on PBS and we used to watch it all the time. The camera work is amazing, it really captures how much he could grip an audience simply with one voice and a guitar. I'm even more touched by the backup vocals on the reels, because clearly these were THE voices he wanted to be heard (Carole King, Carly Simon). VERY moving performance, I tear up every time I see it. Thank you James.

  • Simply magical!

  • This is it...it wasn't Fat Joe. Go to 3:40 or so.

JAMES TAYLOR WAS THE FIRST PERSON TO MAKE IT RAIN!

  • every time i hear this song ......james reminds me of the important things I take for granted sometimes... and that is to truly shower the people I love .......with love... not many songs pull at my heart strings like this one .............thanks james

  • Does anyone know how the reel-to-reel stops/starts/queues in the song?

  • He has a foot switch that starts the tape machine. It's a two track machine that has one channel fed to the audience with just the harmonies and the second channel with the harmonies and a click track. How it stops is a kinda interesting. That particular Revox tape machine has an auto-stop feature that senses when clear 'leader' tape passes by the optical sensor so as to avoid the tape running out of the spools when it gets to the end. So, he spliced sections of leader tape in between the vocals

  • muscatel7803, I think it's just more ... how would you say it? ... 'Honest'? ... to just make it obvious that the backups are prerecorded. I think that probably the tape player is just a prop to illustrate that. I doubt that the backup singer's voices are actually coming from this device. Someone is obviously turning it off and on offstage just to reenforce the illusion. Personally, I think it created a great effect as a prop though.

  • The part from 3:10 where he just sings along with the backing vocals gives me chills... what a great singer. Taylor is such an artist... he knows how to move people emotionally with just his voice.

  • they could sing this in a church it's so good and pure.

  • I agree Scotty. I've never been in a church yet where I've been moved as much as this particular performance of this song has moved me.

  • @DAToDATonian I agree - We all are so lucky that he wrote these lyrics - they bring one back to reality in regards why we are here.

  • @ScottyShowman haha! we're going to tomorrow!

  • grande, maestro, monstruo un talentoso de la balada, tu musica jamas morira x lo simple y directa llena de emocion, un saludo gracias x el video se pasaron, un gran saludo desde chile..

  • Have you EVER heard a better song? His finish is incredible. The girl crying and singing along, then smiling while doing so, at 2:40 tears (teers not tares) me up everytime.

  • this guy's SO going to heaven

  • @flypyd hell yeah!

  • @flypyd ..yeah,not too soon though I hope !

  • @flypyd Not sure I'm particular as to where James goes, just know i want to be within ear-shot from him...Brings something to this life a very few can...thanks James.

  • @flypyd James Taylor is an atheist... like most humans who have done amazing things to enrich everyones lives on earth :)

  • @jvogelsinger1 You are IGNORANT. Mr. Taylor is certainly NOT an atheist by any means. If you knew anything about him or his music you would not say something so stupid! Have you ever heard the words to "Fire And Rain"? "You've got to look down upon me Jesus and help me make a stand". Or how bout "Hymn" from "One Man Dog"? " (.."We got HOLY SCRIPTURES here that prove us to be right")

Just because you would like him to be, doesnt make him atheist. He isn't Christian but he DOES believe in GOD

  • that was great

  • I agree. I saw this concert on PBS years ago and love all of JT's performances, but THIS is the best performance of this song.

  • I was at this concert and have never seen him perform it this way ever since. It is so awesome. I wish he would still do it like this, I love when he goes off with the vocals

  • This is the best version of this song I've ever heard. I saw this on a video about 13 years ago and this is the first time since that I've heard it. Thanks for posting!!
