McLaren F1 was more of an icon because they just built it and wondered what it would do. Veyron an awesome car, but only built to show off. VW resurrected an Italian brand name even though the car is about as Italian as the pasta sauce you get at your local Tescos.
Thank you Volkswagen for giving us this incredible Engineering achievement. They cost $5m to make and they don't cost that much. VW is making a loss on each car. The point is that it is a technology platform to learn from.
Ugly is only skin deep. What's underneath is where VW has achieved many technological achievements. 4291 patents in tihs model alone. Alot of which will end up in Golfs, Jetta's, Passats and even in Porsche. Its a technology platform. Who cares what the skin looks like.
I like your video clip and have rated it as awesome. Please check out mine on some 1930's motor car tobacco cards. Includes an early Bugatti and many other makes.
the Bugatti Veyron, 1001HP, Quad-turbocharged W16 16.4 liter engine, 0-60 in 2.5 sec., top speed 253MPH, AWD, burns up a full tank in about 15 minutes at top speed, approx. $1700,000, Fastest production car on the planet.
I'm not saying the Veyron is rubbish. I just think that the Mclaren F1 was more iconic then the Veyron will ever be. The Veyron is another supercar...the F1 wasn't. And I didn't say lift off the Veyron engine and put it in a F1 but if it was fitted. The F1 is 600 bhp or so while the Veyron is 1000.
to rstrength...they did, its called the nardo bowl and it did a proven 252 mph
makes you dribble just thinking about it...0-62 faster than most jet fighters, 0-186mph faster than a mclaren f1 can go 124-186mph...the list is endless
and brianzuk, are they heck, if they wanted to go faster they would have derestricted the veyron and made stronger tyres
thats too much power man i mean whats the point..by the time it even gets to 258-260mph its gonna have a battle with air resistance and end in a fatal crash..not just that but with that much power..it would be almost impossible to handle on a track
It's a number. VW want to tell people they made a car that can go 252 mph. But the fact of the matter is, it doesn't rate near the Mclaren F1, the Enzo or the Koeniggsegg on the track. Built more as a touring car moe then anything else.
When The Times wanted to test a Mclaren F1 at the Nurburgring the Mclaren people were OK but pulled out when they discovered it would be tested against a Veyron.
That doesn't matter. The Mclaren F1 is 12 years old. 12 years. Thats huge, the F1 technologically was a better car then the Veyron. Put the same engine that the Veyron has and the F1 could do 300mph. Don't get me wrong, both of them are awesome: but the F1 is more iconic then a car with 2 Passat engines and 4 turbos.
"Put the same engine that the Veyron has and the F1 could do 300mph" No it couldn't because the engine wouldn't fit and it would make the car far heavier. The F1 also hasn't got areodynamics designed for that kind of speed and the only car with road tyres rated to go over 250 is the Veyron. On the other hand when they strip down a Veyron and get better tyres it will go a heck of a lot faster.
Its funny that you think the F1 is so much better but you say it would be improved by using the Veyrons "2 Passat engines". The F1 designer Gordon Murray thought is was rubbish as well, until he drove it. Then he bought one.
The problem is actually the tyres. When they can get tyres that can handle it they can make it about 30mph faster. Thats what Volkswagen say anyway but you obviously know better.

There is no use comparing the Mclaren F1 to the Bugatti Veyron... maybe with the Bugatti 110SS which is about 14 years old.

You're talking trash, its not the number of turbos that make a bifference but rather what size and type! Post a link to a site with this inf pls

Its a shame they didn't take it to a faster track. I don't see that thing doing much faster than 150 anywhere on Laguna Seca

to bad someone had to go and edit in that faggy music instead of just letting us hear the sound of the car
