I saw Limelight at the theatre, in 1952, as a five year old, with my Mother. This song stuck in my memory for many years, and when i heard it again, it brought back a flood of pleasant memories, though I remember my mother crying in the theatre. A beautiful song, by a brilliant man, who gave the world so much fun and enjoyment.
Its vocal version is Eternally sung originally by Vic Damone...with a very nice version by Sarah Vaughan. Lovely melody that would be in my heart...........eternally.
Anyone know where I can get this recording or download it? Most of the ones I find is bad. I played this and gabriels oboe in my fathers funeral, and I still get chills and tears listening to them
Have you guys seen the film? In the last scene Terry is dancing to the music (Claire Bloom is so sweet). Before that Calvero says "I wanna see her dance".

I don't believe it. I don't believe Charlie Chaplin, who was one of the world's great comics wrote this song.He was wealthy enough to hire anyone to write music for him and thats what he did. Now the question is who wrote it? Obviously someone who was well renowned, and prolific, but who was in need of fast cash and willing to sign away all rights for same.Alfred Newman comes to mind but there were many composers attracted to Hollywood at the time. I just don't believe old Charlie did it.
Chaplin wrote this song, and he composed the music for the most of his films(starting when soundfilms came) and the re-releases of his early films. This is from "Limelight" from 1952, his only dramatic film.
Also he composed "Smile", you can hear this in the ending scene of "Modern Times".
Short said, in most of his films he did everything: He composed the music, directed. produced, wrote the script and acting.
This music pice "Terrys Theme" is one of his most famous music pices.
Conheci essa música aos 6 anos de idade, minha mãe levou-me par assistir o filme Luzes da Ribalta. Lindos momentos em minha vida. Obrigado Mãe.

On my first actual date, in 1952, we went to see "Limelight.."
I was more focused on the girl than the movie, but I loved the music. Was surprised to find it here. Thanks for posting!

La cantava mio padre, e sentendola mi ricordo dei suoi sorrisi e della sua splendida, inimitabile malinconia.

I think you might be intrigued to listen to the second or third movement of Bach's Cantata No 34! The early bars are fascinating.
That was written in the sixteenth or seventeenth century
