I didn't like the way the worker opened the hatch and immediately looked into the hole, then performed a test.
If Methane or another light gas was present, the worker may have been affected.
The worker should open the hatch while keeping away from the opening or wear a respirator
This also should apply for looking into the hole to check your workmate in the hole, a means of communication (wired intercom or radio) should be used.
In the UK we have to wear a harness and a monitor all the time
These videos are somewhat-out dated. WCB has revised many procedures in the past 5 years and have become even more stringent.
