i've done this last year for highschool haha, but it wasn't intentional, the shortstop threw it into the baseline and i was just protecting myself and laid the kid out lol we all still think it was hilarious
i think if i did that at my high school game, i would probz be kicked out of the game... thats not how a 1st baseman should react to an oncoming runner...
Okay, maybe I'm not in either the baserunner's or the first baseman's position and maybe they had little time to react. The first baseman turns around and sees some kid running as hard as he can straight towards him 2 feet away gave him the natural reaction to shove, and same goes with the kid running. But one thing we can agree on is the pitcher made a bad throw on an easy play.
this happend to me expept on my allstar team, i hit a grounder to the first baseman and he had to range to his left for it and when he came back to touch the base he ran right in my way, but the umpire is dumb and said it was my fault for running in front of him, but anyway im only 4"10 and the first baseman was pretty big and i went flying
The reason why he flew so far was because he was right in the middle of taking a big step to the bag, if you pause at 0:36 you could see the huge leap he makes and when the tag came, the kid's feet were not touching the ground, meaning he was not able to support himself from falling over, leaving his faith in gravity's hands. It's still a dirty play because he tagged him with 2 hands in a pushing motion, which was not called for, but what would've been called for was an apology.
@H3RoYaL He made the tag exactly as he is supposed to; the meat hand holding the ball and that hand in the glove. The shove was a little much, but not dirty.
I was at this game. The throw pulled Jacob Pate off the bag and Pate had no choice but to tag him. However, Pate should have apologized before going to the dugout, and Manger Randy Morris let Pate know it, because in between innings Pate went and told the kid he was sorry. Both Ga mangers Randy Morris (Columbus) and Mickey Lay (Warner Robbins) have done an excellent job handling these kids. Don't believe it? Look at the way they treated the japanese players after winning it all in 06 and 07.
Jacob Pate is actually a very polite kid. my brothere played for team SC who was their and Pate without a doubt was one of the most talented kids their and huble too. other then this play he carried himself very professionaly and u dont see that in 12 yr olds.
Kid kinda jumped guy was forced to make the tag due to the throw. Good play by first baseman. Dont jump at a tag lol
