I am a sportsman (rower) and my biceps are quite large, as such i cant bring my hand very close to the shoulder when the arm is bent. When i put my hand behind my neck, they are more like halfway up my head and I can't roll my neck backwards. Any tips?

I have developed chronic neck pain probably because of long study hours(3 hours on a stretch, 8 hours a day) an also probably because i used to crack my neck bone.......but stretching now doesn't lead to cracking, instead the strain remains....is there anything special I can do for that??
@christzouve Just turn exactly as far as you can, even if its a millimeter, and work with that.. Don't rush or push it, your body will respond to it over time..

i wasn't exploring yoga than, possibly yoga is enough.

@DiezelL0zero: I have to agree with you that one needs to be very cautious when doing neck exercises. Some doctors recommend NOT to tilt your head backwards because this can cause even more damage to your cervical spine. Also, when having serious problems with the neck, be very careful with the "around the world motion" as DiezelL0zero mentioned. Having had to deal with the repercussions of a whiplash, I know what I am talking about. Nevertheless, thanks Esther for posting your great videos!!!

Hi Esther, thank you so much for these tips! My neurologist actually recommended doing this video 1-2x/day to help prevent headaches that can come from sitting at the desk staring at a screen for extended periods of time.

two words: thank you! i was doing my routine pull up workouts when suddenly i felt a strong pain hit the left side of my neck, much like a cramp. figured i either pinched a nerve or pressured my trigger points, but this exercise helped a lot!
Can't do anything of that exercise, because I feel so much pain, can't even rotate my head up to my right or left shoulder.. I will try that after I feel better, now is just pain.. But anyway, thank you for sharing this to us... :)
Thank you for the note of supporting the back of the neck for the rolling exercise. You're the first I've seen to advise that. For once, it actually is relaxing. Reflexology also has me massaging myself all over the place in all sorts of situations where I'm sure others are wondering "what in the world..?" I suffer from unbelievable brain fog that is destroying my life. Severe neck pain/spasms on the right side near the occiput and right jaw. Tests show my neck is too straight, and also I have bulging and torn discs. I am praying this helps me; please pray for me as well
@RapsAlive Neck pain is finally gone after 3 years of suffering. It was completely caused by Benzodiazepines which I only took as prescribed. No thanks to doctors in the least bit, I had to find this out by myself. Still have jaw pain since I'm now going through withdrawals, but neck pain is gone. Stay AWAY from that stuff and all psychotropic drugs, they're poison!

I started to do this exercise every morning for the last week now. At first I didn't notice any difference, but after doing it regularly for a few days I began to feel a real difference. It keeps the muscles flexible and relaxed (somehow)....now I find myself doing it intermittently throughout the day just for extra relief. Thanks!

When I look over both my right and left shoulder (the very first exercise you do on this video) I feel the stretch not on the opposite side that I am looking to (where you say you are to feel the stretch) but on the side I am looking in my shoulder and back(in my trap area). Could this be caused by over ding it? I keep ALL my stress in my neck and shoulders and have gotten into yoga and the P90X stretch and yoga videos and I do fine. hey i can't even do these exercises fully, it hurts way to bad!! I think i may have a problem with my neck for real, is it normal for neck to swell up to twice its size it's supposed to be on the side where the crick is? Also its been gradually swelling and hurting like this for months now, and now i can't sleep! i've had lots of problems with my back and alignment issues, i can only sleep on my stomach, been like that my whole life, which i know is a problem for neck. As a student I've been having a lot of neck pain lately from stress & always looking down while studying. Just tried this tonight, my neck feels much less tense now. The interlaced hands at base of neck then circles really helped!
I was just diagnosed with Cervicogenic Headaches today. My Dr. referred me to your videos! I just tried this one or the 1st time. We will see how it works in time.

I tend to be very prone to neck pain (I think possibly because of a car accident I was in as a child) and on days like today when I am extremely sore I come and watch this video again. It really does help mitigate the pain. I can't thank you enough. :)
Sometimes pain in the neck means "too much" hidration. I get horrible migranes and neck tension when my body has trouble getting rid of water and retains it. Coffee helps stimilate the peeing and helps w/ that.

hey i can't even do these exercises fully, it hurts way to bad!! I think i may have a problem with my neck for real, is it normal for neck to swell up to twice its size it's supposed to be on the side where the crick is? Also its been gradually swelling and hurting like this for months now, and now i can't sleep! i've had lots of problems with my back and alignment issues, i can only sleep on my stomach, been like that my whole life, which i know is a problem for neck. Do you have any advice?

@trequor no offences meant man. Life is like that. You lose passion for something and it is developed and nurtured elsewhere. Yoga was the ancient art of India. There are so many subtle nuances and discipline meant with the practioner and the teacher. Yoga has become Hot, Cold, Sexy and what not. That is what is life. Innovation and convenience together with lots of money. cheers. I think i hurt your sentiment,but it was more of a rhetoric and an irony.

Anyways, im strongly opposed to people who dislike foreigners because they are foreigners. In personal experience, immigrants are a much friendlier lot at a given workplace.

As a student I've been having a lot of neck pain lately from stress & always looking down while studying. Just tried this tonight, my neck feels much less tense now. The interlaced hands at base of neck then circles really helped!

I feel better already. I broke my neck many years ago so have a constant battle with pain bit I followed this class and feel quite good going to bed. I'll have to look you up again tomorrow. Thank you for your guidance.

@mrsRedDove I have pain and had it for two years (upper back and neck pain)... I started this technique yesterday and it helped but I have pain again.
don't expect pain to dissapear in just 3 minutes of stretch! you need to do this everyday to really eliminate pain 100% in the long term.

Thank GOD!!! My neck feels good as new! Only, when I got to the little massage at the end, I kinda made little "Ooh" noises... my dad walked in and was all "what are you whatching??? O__O" XD lol it was awkward.

i play footbal and somehow i ran over someone and my neck started hurting very badly.. it feels like a crook by idk. i have been strectching it but nuthing seems to work... please help.. i have even tried popping it.

I tend to be very prone to neck pain (I think possibly because of a car accident I was in as a child) and on days like today when I am extremely sore I come and watch this video again. It really does help mitigate the pain. I can't thank you enough. :)

Sometimes pain in the neck means "too much" hidration. I get horrible migranes and neck tension when my body has trouble getting rid of water and retains it. Coffee helps stimilate the peeing and helps w/ that.
