Every time I see anything about hillsborough it gives me cold chills.I was only 8 at the time but I remember that day vividly as sadly the numbers rose from 21 t0 56 and eventually 95 lives lost.Eventually of course 96 lives were unnecessarily lost.I feel so sorry for all the families and friends of the loved ones who lost their lives at a football match. It never should have happened.I'm a Manchester United fan but a tragedy like this transcends football allegiance.R.I.P to the 96.
@bigadda1969 I understand what you're saying mate but dont be too hard. When fans first started spilling on to the pitch, nobody knew exactly what was going on. The commentator here is Graham Beecroft who used to work for Radio Merseyside and Radio City. He loves scousers, commentated on both Liverpool & Everton games in the 80s & has no axe to grind with football fans on merseyside. He lost two of his friends in this disaster too, although at the time of his commentary, he was unaware of this.

@mrtoptenatten "you lot brought this one one your selves". That's a joke of a statement. Many of the people who were killed were at the front of the terrace near the barrier - i.e. were valid ticket-holders. And that includes kids.
@mrtoptenatten your a prick that comments bang outta order. £50 say this bloke a south yorkshire copper, they never did want to accept the truth. i remember watching this as it happened and the cops did fuck all for ages.
R.I.P to all that lost there lives on behalf of me and forest fans everywhere
@mrtoptenatten Perhaps the taylor report was wrong. In all probability this week will see the publication of the cabinet docs. Multiple times across media, govt committees and across court inquests it has been proved that fans were not to blame. It was inept police action and crowd management and today all stadia in UK is all seater as a result .From your tone, I can only pity you, does not matter which team you support but as a human being you have a soul missing. Justice for The 96.
Sadly this was a terrible event in LIVERPOOL'S great history, not only for those unfortunate people who lost their lives but also it left a terrible mark on the Club and in my opinion one which LIVERPOOL NEVER got over as the club were never as great as their illustrious history prior, God willing the Club will go on to greatness as it is a great club with terrific fans.
With all due respect (RIP), it would be incredibly unjust to prosecute any policeman involved in the disaster. Clearly, they were incompetent, but the vast vast majority of professions where incompetence occurs do not result in deaths.
A horrific event like this was inevitable due to how stadia in Britain were constructed, not to mention the huge metal gates that penned fans in.
@newheadliner81 Most football stadia (except maybe the large athletics-cum-football bowls) in most countries were like this, it wasn't just Britain. Sadly, many in Latin America and Africa still are - a similar crush happened at a supposedly more modern stadium (Ellis Park, Johannesburg) only 10 years ago, and at Orkney 10 years before that. Whatever the stadium design, potential trouble can always be mitigated by proper crowd control and stewarding.
The tape has been heavily edited. The breaks in it are numerous. As for the cause of the incident, it was caused by inadequate crowd control methods amplified by a traffic problem on the road to the game. No one was to blame except the government regulations, and even those were corrected by requiring stadiums have a seat for every customer. The police were very skilled and did not interpret the crush as a riot. The game should have been stopped and the people allowed onto the field quickly.
@CityGent88 With regards to Hillsborough the thing was the POLICE were to blame, they allowed fans into an already over crowded pen.....Bradford fans who died that day RIP
@evilhafiz4 I think what happened was people were delayed in getting to the match, so when they got their, there were far more people than could get in through the turnstiles. So the police, to avoid deaths outside, opened exit gates to let people in. This caused thousands of fans to try and get in, which caused people in the central pen, which was already dangerously packed, to be crushed to death against the fencing.
@CityGent88 I think it's the whole lack of justice. Valley Parade was a tragic accident, but here something clearly went vitally wrong before the game had even kicked off, and the fact that no-one has come forward to claim responsibility means there still isn't 'closure' on this tragic event. It's not big-club-little-club, it's just that this one is ongoing until there is justice for the 96.
@TheFatweegee having listened to that, and obviously aware of what has been understood and accepted in the years since, I thought Graham Beecroft was exceptional in his judgement of what was going on. I would like to know what BBC TV were saying as he quite clearly refuted their claims.
i was 7 when hillsborough happind, i remember going into liverpool city centre with my brother, then we got home to my grandmothers by liverpool city centre, and remember walking into my nans and everone was crying, my brother had a ticket but he sold it because my mum and dad wouldnt let him go because he was too young to go on his own, god bless the 96, gone but never forgotton, justice YOULL NEVER WALK ALONE
@CityGent88 that's a lie, your disaster gets a mention just as much as hillsboorugh, and in the end it doesn't matter, they are both tragic, R.I.P to both sets of people who died in the disaster.

@CityGent88 As a liverpool fan, I am very sorry for the 56 fans who died at Bradford! I feel truly soory for any football fans who die at afootballing disaster. RIP to both sets of fans!
wow. even as a sunderland supporter this made me feel deeply sorry. R.I.P to all those who lost their lives in this tragedy. RESPECT TO ALL OUT THERE WHO ARE RELATIVES TO THOSE WHO DIED. STAY STRONG,
@wembley05 I also think that you are a dirty scumbag who has no respect for the dead, face facts your lot opened the gates, the fans were seen walking in not running and were clearly not drunk, it's people like you that makes the public hate you and have no confidence in you. Maybe the only way you would understand is that you lost someone in similar circumstances then I'm sure you would voice your opinion. Or do you think you will get a rise for licking the lying governments arse, I flush bett
@xxShaunx7 I don't like to imagine what would have happened if he had scored. Considering there were too many people on the upper tier as well, there would have been tons of fans falling off adding to the crush.
Absolutely awful disaster, horrible to hear. But reading through some of the comments, people can be disgusting. Individual policemen do not deserve to be thrown in jail for this. Perhaps there should be some blame for procedures and officials and the ground, you can say attending football wasn't as safe as it should have been.
To blame individuals who were in no way trained for an incident like this makes me feel very sad.
I've seen live footage of this and the Valley Parade fire(Bradford City), and it's horrific. I hope this never happens in football or any sport again.
Excuse Me?! Am I hearing this right?! Where else were the fans supposed to go!?!!
If the police closed the gate to the central pen, then they could have filtered into the sides, WHICH WERE PRATICALLY EMPTY! Then maybe this would never have happend.
Yeah a scumbag corrupt copper,Them fuckers are to blame for the disaster.Professional police force my arse,Shit head (Government security Force),That's what coppers are.ACAB
RIP to the innocent! No mercy for 3000 Liverpool fans who turned up pissed and forced the gates! The ground and the Cops have been blaimed but how about the FANS?

How did you manage to see these '3000 pissed fans'? You are WRONG. Blood alcohol levels taken at the post mortems say otherwise. It is scurrilous rumours such as these that lead to false accusations by idiots that should know better.
You are from the Uk also! I think we have a pretty good eye for estimating crowd sizes! After 13 years in the Trent End at Forest it is pretty easy to know how many people are in the ground and judgeing numbers!
Blood alcohol levels were taken from the dead you idiot! Not from the 3000 who rioted outside and contributed to the incident! Work it out twat! The innocent were already inside and not pissed! The guilty were outside and pissed! DUUUUUUUH!
You prick wembley. How the fuck do you know that anyone of these 3000 did not die in the crush?
Moreover, the police actually admitted that "it appeared only a few outside the turnstiles were the worse for wear, no more than is usual for a football match"
Wrong again CUNTSACK! so get your facts right........duuuuuuuuuh!
Wembley, it is time your learnt your facts. The gate WAS NOT FORCED. The gate was opened on the orders of the match commander Police Superintendent David Duckenfield. The gate was opened and an estimated 2000 fans came in, and the tunnel leading to the pens was NOT closed as it should have been. This caused the central fenced-in pens to become dangerously overcrowded to the point that there was fatal crushing. 96 lost their lives.
So "2000 fans came in' did they? Are you saying that they walked in as if on their way to Sunday Chapel or charged in like the disorderly drunk mob that I observed? I would beg to choose the latter description! Stop making excuses and playing down the role of the the drunk 3000 ticketless twats!!!!!!!!!!!!
(wanker who wasn't there on the day it happenened)
Before you call me TWAT remember to say Wembley05, he was a twat who was actuatly at the game and is simply writing what he witnessesd! Were you there fuck stain? Did you see anything?
The pens filled up within 3-4 minutes of kickoff! Yes the gate was opened by Police but the fanns charged in like mad bulls! I know what I saw! You can make any excuse you wan't but it is still 33% equally to blame for Liverpool fans, Police and the ground! I am fed up with the fans taking no responsibility!
wembley, I understand what you are saying, but that does not alter the fact that the police let these fans in in the first place. They have what is termed a 'duty of care'
I will set you an example: It is a busy Saturday night in a Rio de Janiero niteclub in Brazil. It is the most popular nitespot in the whole of Brazil. On this nite 5000 people tried to get in. The security guards under pressure finally did let them in. It caused fatal crush.
If you go to a nightspot then you do not have to but a ticket before you go! If you go to a Football match as an away fan then you have to buy a ticket to gain access! That is the difference! Duty of care? I am a cop and my duty of care would have been towards those in the ground!!!!!
wembley05, what about those people outside the ground?. On another note, you know as well as I do that there are many people who go to niteclubs without tickets who try - and in many cases - succeed in getting in.
Tickets were, I understand, scarce. Those who passionately follow their clubs forever live in hope that they can obtain a ticket. Best place? Of course, outside the ground - they're called tickets touts. Besides I understand that ticketless fans were NOT the problem at Hillsborough
Why should the fans take the responsibility of what was fault of lack of management and poor grounds? If you were given a ticket to go see your club in a Semi-Final, you'd bite the guys hand off. The fans didn't know that there would be a crush or over-populated turnstile. Of course the police were pressured into opening the gates to prevent a crush outside, but that's no fault of fans, thinking they deserved to be in with legit tickets.
...as for them charging in, have you ever been in a crush or asphyxiated? The fans thought on the other side it would be fine and they could relax again. They all charged in to try and get themselves out of the crush outside and thinking it would save their lives. For many it probably did. Unfortunately for 96 it didn't.
@wembley05 the fans didnt now the stands were completely packed, you open a gate there obiviously going to go forward and keep going they dodn't do it on purpose
to get proper and true justice, a good many people would have to be brought in.... the man who designed the stadium, the police, the liverpool supporters themselves.
it was such a combination of so many people doing things wrong that caused it.
a lot of people simply want to blame the police 100%, which is completely ridiculous.
It is not just that though in fairness. Hillsborough has a huge sense of state responsibility because the police were partially responsible for it. The Bradford fire was sadly just a tragic accident - and the police were pretty heroic in helping people escape the inferno.
This is one of the most chaotic things that has ever occured in English football. Even though 2 decades have passed, it has never stopped disturbing fans like myself.
They never walk alone ? Yes now they walk nowhere

@wembley05

@wembley05
...as for them charging in, have you ever been in a crush or asphyxiated? The fans thought on the other side it would be fine and they could relax again. They all charged in to try and get themselves out of the crush outside and thinking it would save their lives. For many it probably did. Unfortunately for 96 it didn't.

From a MUFC Fan:
Even though Manchester United and Liverpool supporters talk about trophies and success back and forth, both clubs had terrible tragedies.

RIP - from newcastle united - this sounds closer than when u watch the footage - justice needed.

to get proper and true justice, a good many people would have to be brought in.... the man who designed the stadium, the police, the liverpool supporters themselves.
it was such a combination of so many people doing things wrong that caused it.
a lot of people simply want to blame the police 100%, which is completely ridiculous.

it is always sad to hear someone perished, no matter where!
