Besides, their changing style is what makes the old stuff more meaningful and if they stayed the same, everyone would still bitch.

Before anyone says i jumped on kings of leon's band wagon, i've been a big KOL fan since about 2004ish and i prefer their older stuff and my least favorite album is Come Around Sundown.... But it's so wrong to say they sold out... They just grew up! they were like between 17 and 20 or something when they released this song... So how could you not think the music they like writing what they enjoy playing is gonna change in nearly 10 years of recording and touring?! It happens!!

2003 - Vocals are raspy and in your face using delay to give edge
2011 - Vocals are clean cut and border line boy band.
Not to mention the image change - retro > boyband haircut transition.

I was in a band for 15 years... and believe me; styles change... ideas change... philosophies change.. desires change... there's nothing wrong with that. All of these things influence your music. Anger influences it one way... love influences it another direction... pain influences your music in dark melodramatic ways... All combine to "change" the sound, texture, timing and emotions. Of course, fans hate it. But real musicians are true to themselves - not fans.
This was the Kings of Leon I loved and admired. For me, Kings of Leon died after Aha Shake Heartbreak (2004). Those first 2 albums shall forever remain as my favourites.
I understand how they lost their roots. They spent all their time in Europe where they were super successful all the while being virtually nobodies in North America. Maybe they picked up influences while out there. It changed them.

This was the amp used on tour & in the Youth and Young Manhood recordings.
I actually travelled from Ireland for this gig (and to see Paul McCartney & Oasis) but KOL blew them off the stage
I was turned on to KOL at that stage & went to 4-5 gigs across the UK so I'm not your average "hater"
Was at Hyde Pk 2011 (mainly to see Weller as he wasn't touring in 2011) & thought Weller blew KOL of stage!!

Of course, fans hate it. But real musicians are true to themselves - not fans.

This was the Kings of Leon I loved and admired. For me, Kings of Leon died after Aha Shake Heartbreak (2004). Those first 2 albums shall forever remain as my favourites.

I understand how they lost their roots. They spent all their time in Europe where they were super successful all the while being virtually nobodies in North America. Maybe they picked up influences while out there. It changed them.
