i am an agent and i only charge them fifty cents on daily for a complaint $2 on sunday but that is what the star charges me i pay them 11 cents on daily and 40 cents for a sunday most of my guys and gals make between 500 -750 a week no blizard will stop us
Sounds weird, but I liked my days as a paper carrier. I did it for a few years and I had a 230 paper route for a paper in the Chicago suburbs. I'd toss them in my truck and park in the middle of my route and use my bike. You can go up and down driveways way faster on a bike than in a car so I never understood why NOBODY in my distro didn't ride a bike. Especially the younger carriers like me. Thanks for posting the vid btw!
meant to say thank you for making this video. Some don't know what we go through. They charge us for complaints but we never get any bonus. Now they're trying to get us to count our papers in the morning, if we're short & call it in too late they claim a termination of contract even though it's not in the contract. Once day us carriers will have a union & be declared "employees".
That's nice. We don't get a warm and dry depot to prep our papers. They drop them off at your pick up spot. Ours is a funeral home. Oh, and most all of the time the "bundle-dropper" is late making you late. Complaints do suck. Usually old MFers with no life. except getting their newspaper at the crack of dawn.
Getting to depot too late on weekdays to prep yr paps (per yr DM)? But you seem to get yr tosses done on time or nearly on time? Get to depot VERY early hopefully when paps are ready & fetch your weekday paps. Bring 'em home - if home is not too far from route or depot. Finish yr breakfast, nap, TV, etc. Set yr 2nd alarm clock, then go out to car & finish prepp'ing them. You get to yr route @ yr own pace. Just don't be 2 late tossing them! Do CB list 1st!
My relative does this for oldest continuously published paper in USA. Compared 2 U guys he has it made. 200 paps in 2 hrs (plus prep @ depot). Can't see how u do 360 in 1 hr. $4 penalty seems criminal! Dble bag on rainy days. Make "cry baby" (top complainers & good tippers) list & give JUST THEM "special treatment". Others so-so serv until are moved up to the C.B. list. Make lots of copies of a "Please call my cell phone for all complaints!" and insert in papers 2/year. This bypasses penalties.
On the CB list make sure you tell them just call me for stuff YOU DO, not vacation stops, billing, restarts, etc. Put the paper's phone number down for that. Put a dotted line around your celly and say "cut this out and hang on your frig. If the paper's late or not where you want it call me ASAP before I leave the area." Get one of those cheapie throw-away cellys like TracPhone so they don't bother you during your personal time.
For about 2 weeks do the "run it up the flag pole & see who salutes" routine. Bag & toss papers in driveways from your car until you see who hates it and then they go on your CB list. Others never complain? Leave well enuf' alone!

To speed up prep time do weekly papers in your car in a well-lit parking lot near your route as they are not as THICK as the Sun. and maybe Thurs. Use elastics if no moisture is involved. Much faster than bags. Flyers? What flyers? CB list helpful here too?
Hate depot cart b/c u have to bring it all the way back across crowded depot parking lot after u load yr car up weekdays? Hate wear & tear on yr car? Buy yourself foldable granny cart from Walmart ($15-20). Use it to get yr weekday paps, load up yr car, & throw granny into trunk. When arrive at yr route, park car in central location(s) & load up granny. Walk in a huge loop(s) so you arrive back at your car when done. Saves on gas, wear & tear, & good exercise for you. Bring water!
Actually you'd send this hand-made "call me" flyer to EVERYONE on your route not just the Cry Baby list (CB List).

Your DM requires that you give him a cell phone number so he can bug you when he thinks your late? Give him the same number you give the customers. Remember all his caller ids too. So you know who to NOT answer. You know your late, you don't need him to remind you. Or you could just give him one of these numbers: tinyurl DOTcom/25bohal
my paper route is in franklin and medfield...franklin 169 globes on sundays.and medfield 218 globes on sunday...depends on stops and starts deliveris..both routes take me 2 hours and 20 minutes
i do delivery newspaper too..it is in massachusetts i have 2 routes it is on sunday 390 boston globes and others papers almost 450 papers...i like it because take about 2 hours to do it those routes..but like you guys 365 days non stop whenever time and wheather...and you have to pay the gas...
Here in Stockholm I get about 1:20 SEK = 17 cents / newspaper and no penalty. I get about 2-4 complaints/week. We always put them in boxes beside the street and to apartements in a hole through the door.
I had a coworker at my other job, he said "you deliver on a bike?" I said man my route is spread over 50 miles. But some routes in the cities or complexes may use bikes or walking. Dang that's hash with the complaints! We are allowed one complaint per 1000 papers delivered, but no penalty on pay.
Finally! Thank you for showcasing a real video of what it's like to distribute the papers. It's rather stereotypical of others to assume we still deliver on bikes...
I made a rather "farse" little film on my delivers. You should check it out. Nice video. :)
nice video. we are underappriciated i think. people dont take the time to realize what we do....365 days a year....in bad weather...im in michigan and the weather can be undesirable here.

Hi I´m Edward from Brazil.
Do you deliver the Boston globe?
I delivered the Salt Lake tribune in Utah for
3 years.
I heard in Boston it pays better.
Where in MA is your route?
edviperrrr 1 year ago
Hello good people. Is that around Denver area?
I´m Edward from Brazil. I´ve done paper and pizza delivery in Salt Lake-UT.
It was fun, paper&pizza delivery isn´t a job, it´s a style of life.
I haven´t done a paper route yet in Brazil but I look forward on starting my first one.
The problem is because here we do these deliveries by motorcycle, and I don´t really like to ride motorcycles for work.
But, it´s a nice video. Good luck for all of us.
