"was" a canadian... i saw her one-woman tour before she died. absoultey entertaining! another little known: Her and Jack Klugman never divorced. may have been the longest legal separation in HollyWEIRD
Sometime in the 70's I saw Gene Rayburn on a Manhattan street wearing a solid pink suit. It definitely stood out, and wouldn't work on just anyone, but because of his stature and good looks, he was able to pull it off. (Also, I suppose, just that fact that he was Gene Rayburn didn't hurt.)
Oh my goodness, even for the 70's that suit was bad and they all knew it, haha! The pink shirt with the red tie underneath simply completed the ensemble.
The reaction from the panelists was absolutely awesome.
Back in the 1970's, people didn't seem to mind if they used the same material patterns to make couches or suits. I would bet that suit is made from 100% DuPont Herculon.
Betcha it's got Staingard on it too. LOL! That is the WORST looking suit I have ever seen. I grew up in the '70's and even my father wouldn't have bought something like that.....even it it was on Sale!!!! LMAO!!!
Oh yeah 81zed! My pops wore a white belt, with white shoes a few times. He NEVER would have worn that suit!
Herculon was a syththetic and coarse weaved outdoor lawn furniture type of material.
Salesmen used to demo a piece of Herculon (saw it with my own eyes), by stabbing sharpened pencil through a couch in the furniture store. Repairing the damage took just a few seconds of rubbing the hole! The fibers would re-align!
What I like especially about this clip is that all of the panelists look ahead as if to say, "No eye contact." But that could also be because they do not want to cross their eyes to solve the 3-D puzzle on Gene's suit. LOL
Jack Carter is the one that finally makes the first joke about it, but just imagine how Charles would have had a field day with this one (I do not think he was a regular yet).
You know if any Episode of Match Game is good enough to put on a DVD , then I say it is this one from Match Game 73 . Really I think Gene looked kind of cute wearing that suit ,and he sure got a big kick out of it too .
Picture yourself as Gene Rayburn and you wore an outfit like that and everyone ignored you when walked out on stage , what would you have done or said ? As for me , I'd probably laugh too like Gene did .
Hey , This one of my top favorite Episodes of Match Game 73 and I thought that outfit looked so cute & funnnnny on Gene . LOL ! Thanks For Posting that .
fanny fag.... she was paired with another one - dick seargent - on a lot of 'couples' things

I was wondering what happened to that old sofa!!! HAHA!!!
Seriously, Match Game is a classic, and it needs to come back on regular TV, not just GSN (which still shows it, just not as often).

I want it to be released on DVD (or at least put up on the internet).... ;)
WhoBoy93 2 years ago 2
Actually "The Best of Match Game" is already out on DVD (You can find it on Ebay). They need to release more episodes to make a Volume 2 at least!

81zed and ZombiedustXXX, that is the greatest suit I have ever seen! And I would buy it, even on sale! And I would wear it just for the shock factor.
Stratman78 2 years ago
I think you'd be the talk of the town! The chicks would dig it!
81zed 2 years ago
If I was to wear that suit, I think people would look at me today as a 70's reject.
But I'd still want one.
Stratman78 2 years ago
You know, clothing today is so....so....so BORING. Especially for the guys. It's amazing what a little colour can do for you. lol!

I don't know which suit was odd looking, Gene's suit on MG '73, or the suit worn by "Lucky Suit" Hal Scherer during his run on TJW in '78?

Love how the panelist is trying not to look at Gene and his suit!
How clothes styles have changed!
