9 sqn is a squadron of 23 engineer reg along with 51 and 12 sqns, when you get posted there you get a maroon beret, after passing the course you can then peak the beret and get a para smpck instead of your original combat jacket, you then go on to do your jumps when you can get your wings
good luck to you, soldierside365.One more thing, if you do end up wearing that maroon beret as a result of your efforts you will be on a high that will last a year
yes but they're only allowed to wear a maroon beret on camp with the rest of 9 Squadron i believe, not with other RE regiments, but are allowed to wear wings wherever they are.. (im not entirely sure this is 100% but i heard from some major a couple weeks ago when running 20 miles.. not really the best time to learn new info lol)
oh no im not even in the army yet, havent even had ADSC yet, its taking bloody ages!! but i will hopefully, since my first choice is now paras since RE intake is full.. that 20 mile run was for a marathon im doing in december lol
@khalsasikh I don't know about the P Company training, but I know there were several Americans serving in the Paras on a sort of exchange program at the time of the Falklands conflict. Apparantly they got very upset about not being able to go with the task force as the US wanted to remain "Impartial" during the course of the conflict. They are mentioned in several books I think they were on loan to 3Para, so maybe they did the course?
@khalsasikh Exchange programs happen all the time between allied nations. Because the majority taking part in these exchanges are already para-trained, having done their own equivalent jumps courses, all they have to do, to earn british Wings, is complete however many jumps. They don't have to do P-Coy nor do they have to attend a basic jumps course at Brize Norton.
Im joining the royal regiment of scotland, but i have the utt most respect for any soldier in the paras ! hope to transfere in a few years once im much fitter and more determined too pass ! good luck to all going straight into the para reg.
respect m8, you got it in one. go for it good luck wit the rest of uni course and good luck wit sandhurst when it comes, i hope you enjoy the boiler suits at the begining of it all lol. one day you mite be bossin me around lol, good luck bud
cheers mate good luck to you to- good money if you go to sandhurst as a graduate my sister did and she passing out in august. only thing ill say m8 you will have to work fookin hard to gain respect of your soldiers if you ent served in the reg b4 being an officer. i hope to get nco when im in(after couple years obv)
fair play to you mate- are you going to do para reg course, then serve for couple years and try n get commisioned? or are you goin straight to sandhurst? im on para reg insight course 31july so hopefully will be startin in sept!
are you going parachute reg or going through signals or reme and doing p-company same as this? train up son, im training now hard, in process of joining army then going to work the hardest in my life to EARN my maroon beret and wings
The signals captain says anyone for the January 1992 course, so must have been end of 1991 considering the poppies. The roman numerals say 1992 as well for the broadcasting date. So most likely 90s. They'll use SLRs as it's a course is my guess.

@soldierside365 Hey, mate, have you ever heard of Americans attending P Company? I have seen some Americans wearing the British Jump Wings.

I thought this program was from '83. Just after the Falklands war. To many SLRs for me to think anywhere in the 90s.
