  • The Madonna song Borderline which came out later uses a similar intro. They both had the same songwriter.

  • still listening to this in 2012 (:

    thumbs up !

  • Go Stephanie go! I think she is talking about her relationship with the heavenly Father......through Jesus Christ.....

  • I never knew this video existed-I didn't hear this song until after the "Something Real" album came out-classic radio joints like this will never go out of style-and I never knew she dated MJ....

  • only heard this song this year damnit......!!!! Maybe all these years i was living in my own world f*ck!!!! How come i only heard this song this year, still on the radio...anyway love it to bits!!!!!

  • thumbs up if you want me to sing this song..

  • I love this song but WOW she can pop her eyes out

  • 14 people apparently always knew love like this before

  • @alex21121485 Screw those 14 people! Lol How can you not like a song like this!?!?!

  • She's very pretty!

  • @dbrown61 oh ok i like the song but the faces just....killed the music video for me lol

  • Unforgetable...

  • nicesong, annoying video with those fake ass facial expressions

  • ok but why she gtta do her face like tht tho

  • @t00muchredbull She was a stage actress and singer (she was Dorothy in "The WIz" on Broadway). Those are the exaggerated expressions of a stage actress (done so even the audience in the cheap seats can see). That was how she was used to performing, and apparently there was nobody involved with this production to tell her to "pull it back" for the TV camera.

  • Women are so much more appealing when they dress with modesty in mind.

  • aint she beautiful... women from 70 and 80's wow girls especially my fellow sista... you women are stunning......

  • LOL. What is she doing out in the forest dancing by herself?

  • @tnguyen318

    LOL

  • Africanamerican divas has unlimited talent , mrs . mills proves it. GOD bless her.

  • Why is the best part of the song cut off in all youtube videos I found. i love the whole " I never knew ooh ooh, I never knew ooh ooh." that's my favorite part.

  • Classsssssic! :)

  • This was the year where disco songs where about beutiful feelings and not dance floors!

  • central park NYC.

  • Poor sound quality; lips are not in sync with words.

  • A friend of mine keeps going on and on about this singer. Wanted to have a listen. She's good. Is there a good version of this video. Sound qualitly not so great.

  • beautiful song

  • Nice but the bass is drowning out her voice,,,, try again with less bass

  • Pure talent... without the bullshit from now a days!

  • This is my favorite song. Hands down.

  • brilliant track

  • 30 years old and this songs still classic.

  • Heard this song last week at the roller skating rink. Throwback weekend.

  • :21 always kinda freaked me out wen i watch this, (her eyes pop) amazing song though

  • @fouhz

  • now dis is a classic!! soul train shit !! but good i must say, old skool in avery good way say black!!

  • One of the best songs of the beginning of the 1980s.

  • 23 years ago I dedicated this song to my now husband. Loved this song. THANK YOU FOR THE POST!

  • I never knew Stephanie Mills had a video for this song.Stephanie Mills is definetly one of a long list of great singers to ever touch a microphone.TVone should do an unsung episodes on Stephanie Mills next.Because she is rarely mentioned when people talk about great singers. She is to me criminally slept on.

  • Sister Stephanie Mills is a sexy and dynamic singer of all-time.

Stephanie is so uplifting and beautiful with her voice and herself.

    Sister Stephanie is so classical.

Sister Stephanie Mills, the sexy diva hero.

  • great song.

  • Beautiful song, beautiful voice and she is bretty too.

  • African People are always blessed with a good voice.

  • ALWAYZ LOVED THIS LIL GEM THNX

  • I agree with Blackgirllost1,It is also one of my all time favorite songs.

  • trop de souvenir avec ce morceaux !!!! trop top J'ADORE !!!!!!

  • oldiest but goodiest jeje... para comenzar bien la semana... esta rola RETRO la pusieron ayer en el Brut... :º)

  • beautiful women, beautiful song & sex voice

  • Audio is horrendous!

  • yo todavia no nacia pero esta cancion me trae gratos recuerdos de mi infancia

  • It's so great how the brain works, I remember the words to this song like it was yesterday, such a classic from a wonderful and beautiful woman. Damn MIke you really missed out on a great girl!!! Oh well such is life!!!

  • pt 2 if that were the case more power to the people who loved disco... or people who at least would've

  • To me this is the best kind of "disco" there is...not to hypnotic, loud and haunting...but light enjoyable...she's young she's innocent pearly whites and she's in love with the lord...and I think if disco would've promoted more of the young artists like Evelyn Champagne King and Stephanie Mills way before the closing of 70's and 80's rather than people of 25 and 30 singing "I love you but I'll die if you don't" disco would still be a dance that's mainstream today with new artists.

  • Damn, gonna be 30 this year, this kind of music was around when I was born, compare this to souja boy and lady gaga, Im getting old

  • Stephaine Mills is such a sexy and gifted singer and for me when she had Never knew Love like Before tells you that she's was top of her game.

Sis. Stephaine Mills, was just beautiful.

  • @peasah2005 you right. MJ should of stuck with Stephanie she is a strong women who would of supported instead go on shows and diss him

  • me gusta la canción, es hermosa y la sencillez de la cantante, lo impactante es su voz y su canción, no como ahora que lo que impacta es el cuerpo y los efectos sonoros y de video.

  • I too think it`s directed to God.... lonely never more... you are my love light... once I was lost & now I`m found.... when I need I call your name.... plus video set in a Garden of Eden setting... that`s what I think anyway :)

  • true love song

  • I don't think song is about god but if your mind thinks that this song has a religous meaning so be it, the song is about two people falling in loving and having something that a modern cynical world can't ever comprehend in a Bitch and Hoe black music scene. That's what black music used to deliver, SOUL and made you believe that love is all you ever needed to get by and it touched our minds and hearts and 30 years later Stephanie Mills song still touches our lives.

  • É uma das músicas mais bonitas de todos os tempos.

  • Bien vu Akim, bon son funky

  • Stephanie made a video for this? I NEVER KNEEWWWEEEWWW!

  • Love Stephanie always beautiful woman inside and out it just to bad the this is the best clip I could find of this particular song.

  • Music is truly the soundtrack of our lives...

  • Nobody can do it like dis here....NOBODY

  • Love this song!!!

  • This song makes me want to go to church everyday :)

  • je ne me lasserais jamais de l'ecouter trop belleeeeeeeeeeeee j'adoreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • mi piace mi piace mi piaceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Is that McArthur Park, Los Angeles or Central Park, New York?

  • Stephanie is so beautiful. I see why Michael liked her. She's so classy. And this song will never go out of style. I love this song!!!

  • I love this song its so touching and sweet

  • merci pour ce clip. titibello13 de Marseille

  • ooh I miss those pleated shirts and herringbone chains.....love dis song too!

  • I think this is one of Stephanie Mills best songs ever.

  • i love this song so much......

  • brings me back to my younger days in the military ! lots of good memories !

  • Okay.....this one...I used to slide down our staifrcase w a top hat and my mom and company used to luv it and beg me to dance for them again, I was twelve, lol

  • Her Eyes Bug Me out !!

  • This song sounds an awful like the Disney Land Song LOL

  • Man ive been looking for this song for a very long time!!!!!

i used to listen to it when i was young and was convinced it was a late 90's tune but turns out it wasnt :S

  • Aww, how sweet(:

  • @Shoezfreak ....'shoezfreak'...love your name, made me laugh.

  • Michel Jackson and Stephanice could've been together

  • @99thJediWarrior

Well if Michael had common sense instead of making a fool of himself.

Defintely he and Stephaine would've been the perfect couple and it will help Michael so much.

    Never mind.

  • @peasah2005 Don't say that, now. Michael still endured the mess that was thrown at him. That's strength.

  • I think this may be Fairmount Park in Philadelphia where she is walking/singing.

  • ...i need a new soul mate.

  • Her facial expressions are hilarious

  • beautiful song, sexy voice!!

  • LMFAO!!!!!! At 00:22 scary!!!!!!!!!

  • One of my all time favorite Stephanie Mills songs (Never Knew Love Like This Before), just realized she's not referring to a man but God instead!

  • Where did you get this profound information ; )

  • @blackgirllost1 - There is another song like this called "You Light Up MyLife" by Debbie Boone.

  • @ButterflyQueene07 Really thanks. I'll look it up.

  • @blackgirllost1 - Wow, I had no idea!

  • @blackgirllost1

how the heck u know? please!

  • @brooklynbajan415 If you listen to the lyrics now and rewatch the video, it's so plain to see. "Once I was lost and now I'm found" plus she's in the woods all around nature (God's creation) no man in the video. I only discovered this once I began having a relationship with God.

  • @blackgirllost1

Yes I agree with you. This is a love beyond human.

  • @blackgirllost1 Loving God and Having a relationship with Him really has made me "Never Knew Love Like This" and I still love dancing, men and the LORD...but Lord's no.1 in my life when all is said and done...it should be like that for all of us...

  • @blackgirllost1 For real? Where you got that from?

  • @blackgirllost1 i dont think its about 'god' nessicarilly, but about life.

  • she is soooo " purtiful" : )

  • Love this girl. I remember driving and listening to this

     cal state LA 80-81

  • its so wonderful listening to this song while driving. love it....

  • Love you Stephanie!!!

  • cette chanson!!!! me rend fou d amour et de danse je taime !!!!!! mill ke du bohnneur!!!!!

  • i luv this song.

  • I had a mad crush on her when I was around 1980-82 this song my favorite 1 from her.......stay up Stephanie!!!!

    Boys & Girls Club parties...lol

  • I remember her on that album cover. She was so confident looking.Lot of guys had a crush on her.

  • @level242 Including me!

  • They don't make women like that anymore.

  • She's cute and i like this song she popularized in 1980.. another memorable one for me.

  • i love this vid & song of course and you know who did a verison of this great song the late great gwen guthrie its different but real nice but this my favorite verison

  • didn't Michael Jackson do a version of this :S

  • this is Michael Jackson..right?

  • @Kly2k8

    no

  • Linda, linda,linda........

  • PURE!!

  • Listen to the pureness of her voice. I see why the ones that are singing now are called artist and not singers

  • yes ..because singers naturally have beautiful voices and artists are those who are not really naturally talented in singing but keeps on practicing to attain a better voice ..

  • you mean like the artist formerly known as Prince, "that skinny M*****F***** with a high voice."

  • Prince..??

    I dunno know him yet..

  • This used to be one of my favorite songs!!!! Stephanie's sultry voice is powerful....she reminds me of Toni Braxton!!

  • You mean Toni Braxton reminds you of her lol.

  • Was this shot at Central Park? I mean, THE Central Park in New York?

  • this song reminds me of my brother. i rem being little and him dancing to this in his room. he died 9 yrs ago...i heard this song in the mall today...i dont think i have heard it since he passed away! its kinda bittersweet

  • I love her squeaky clean voice. It's kinda reminiscent to that of latina chick Lisa Velez of Latin/Soul/Dance band Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam with Full Force...just a little!

  • I remember hearing this song for the first time when I went disco roller skating in Carlingford, Sydney, when I was about sixteen. I fell in love for the first time that night and this song always reminded me of Lauren & the way I felt when she kissed me that night. We were inseparable from that moment on, for about 2 years, before her family moved away. I must have looked for her face in a million crowds since then but to this day I haven't run into her again. I hope life's been good to her.

  • maybe your paths will cross again. That's such a tender sweet story and Never knew love like this sums what you had with her up. Do you happen to know what her full name is and where she went? She could be on facebook and myspace of course by now she could've married and changed names and destinations a lot since. That made me cry when I read that.

  • Maybe our paths will cross again, as you say, but I'm no longer hopeful of that happening. What I do know is that I loved her with all of my heart, despite people at the time telling me we were too young to know what love was. I know it's a cliche, but it's so true that you never forget your first love - that flame never dies, really. And I think it's possible that you can always love someone, even though you don't know where they are, or their circumstances. They live in your heart, forever....

  • @mistertube10

Wow that is like the sweetest comment I ever read on youtube.

  • @fresh77896 - Thanks for your comment - glad you liked mine.

    Thanks a million for posting!

  • Does everyone has a crush on this girl like I do? Long live Steph! Fun to listen too and too watch!

  • i do !!!

  • Was my 1980 favorite,, thanks for uploading it... it's kept in my channel of favorites.

  • This for my baby I love you soooooooooo much

  • This song reminds me of 7th grade. I LOVE STEPHANIE!!!! This was one of the songs I sang in front of the mirror with a brush or comb!!! LOL Back in those days kids could actually sing the lyrics to songs and not be embarrassed or shamed to say them in front of adults!!!!

  • My favorite song of 1980, I was a sophmore in High School when I first heard this. Times sures travels fast, enjoy.

  • This song just makes your heart happy...just.... Explode with laughter, joy, happiness.....I can't describe the feeling that this song makes me have.......bliss isn't even the word...I just don't know.... : )

  • what really did happen to popular music along the way...?

and it is like theres no music most of todays songs!

  • This is a wonderful song that has a very heavenly feeling! Mtume written & produced many gems for Stephanie!! He has extraordinary musical knowledge ... very articulate about his views and what he knows and it's a certainty that the listener will learn much from his music history. I often listen to him on a KissFM radio talk show in NYC. He's very educated, spiritual and he wisely hit the nail on the head when he collaborated with tenderly talented Stephanie Mills. Eternal love song this is!!!

  • Right on point, Mtume and Reggie Lucas wrote a beautiful song that makes you believe in the power of love's possiblites, today's music doesn't have that power to bring you right to the time you first fell in love and all those emotions and Stephanie's vocal evokes an innocence that makes you feel it even 29 years after the song was released. Today's singers can't even have decent feelings for each other without either sexualizing one another. I'm building a time machine care to join me folks?

  • TheNewsoul2 - We can go on long exposing to prove how spiritually DEAD the newer artists are today, but instead, old souls as you, I and others would rather indulge in all the magnificent music that has been passed on down to us by our much talented ancestors. The atmosphere of songs as this have been overshadowed by untamed carnality! False beauty and theft practice for sampling has dominated THIS generation. I'm glad to hear conscious aware souls as yourself. "Time machine" I accept. Yeah
