I don't think he's underrated as a guitarist I just think he's not as well known as some others because the band he played for didn't produce a bunch of really popular songs. Like, people knew who Dokken was....but they weren't popular enough to make George Lynch a household names. I can remember growing up and playing some Dokken/Lynch Mob tapes in my car and nobody knew who it was, only guessed that it was Van Halen. I can recall a couple people saying "Wow, I never used to like Van Halen"

p.s. for those wondering about George's fingers, a.) yeah, ok, he does have Vai hands, but also b.) he works HARD at maximizing his stretching power. In his 'guitar bible' video he shows/tells you to play the pentatonic shapes with only your second and third finger .. riiiight, George. He's a pimp nonetheless. For this shape, since 5 to 9 is a fourth, you can easily just take the 9 up to the next string instead.
