I think they compare them because cohen is obviously trying to tear a page from kaufmans book. which is cool but not as funny unfortunately. Kaufman was a performer who seemed to focus on the moments when you are not sure what the intention is -Tony Clifton is an example of it. The tenk you veddy much at the end of the bombing comic/Elvis bit.. I always loved how Man on the Moon portrayed the Taxi set being trashed by Clifton.
