This is an excellent tutorial and black eye.I particularly like that you explain WHY the color is where it is.I do that whe I teach master classes. I might suggest mixing the yellow on the puffy part with a dab of hilite to brigthen it.Remember people theatre makeup is exxagerated to compensate for bright lights which bleach pigment as well as distance.
My drama teacher did the black eye and hickey makeup thing on me aand the story I told was I was behind the school kissing this girl and she gave me the hickey when her boyfriend walked up and and we fought and thats how I got the black eye and it worked.
I like this tutorial, thank you very much! I would have put a bit more purple instead of the green, but either way it looks very good!

I actually have a black eye ATM and at around one minute into the vid it was spot on. I love the thought process behind the technique :)

This is great! In the show I'm in, we have a black eye in Act 1 and Act 2 and I'm in charge of makeup. This is really helpful! Thanks a ton!

in a bruise the colors blend together the yellow sorta comes to an abrupt stop but i like that you have reasons for why a color is going where it is

Please remember this is Theatrical Makeup. It is meant to be viewed from 20'+ away.
If one was doing the makeup for film/video; then it would need to be less exaggerated.

What would you use for removal of these techniques? Would you just use baby oil like you would on regular stage makeups?
runfromnuke 3 years ago
This is regular stage makeup.
Cold Cream works well, including those pre-moistened wipes.

It looks realistic from a distance but not so much up close... But this helps with Halloween
musicloverjudge1 3 years ago
Note that these are "Theatrical Makeup" techniques; designed to be seen from 20' away.

could you use black eye shaddow ?
Dancer2183 3 years ago
You wouldn't get the same results as using true theatrical makeup, but use what you can!

Thanks you very much for all those videos.
These videos helped me to teach a bunch of students about the basics of Stage Makeup.
Keep up the great work :)

Looks as though its been made to be seen from a distance..the close up wasnt too realistic.
woolysheepelectriced 3 years ago
Correct. This is Theatrical makeup...to be viewed from the audience / stage. For film, you would need to be more subtle.

Theatrical makeup is thicker than normal makeup. Some types are even referred to as "grease paint"!
