I don't think I "forced" him to pass. I was going the speed limit as indicated in the radar sign. He crossed the double yellow twice and sped past me along with the gestures and comments. He then forced his way back in my lane deliberately "cutting me off". Not safe maneuvers in my opinion. But yes I agree with you that from some of the motorists it's their last attempt at claiming the roads as theirs.
How is it a fail? Biking where the sharrows were properly placed you controlled the lane and he passed in the other lane vs. squeezing by you in the same lane. Who cares if he wants make some asshole comment/gesture: you forced him to pass civilly and that's only a tiny percentage of motorists anyway. For these types think of it as their last gasp of motorist-only days on what was "their" roads.
