  • This was recorded on Mahalia's final Tour in 1971 before she died. This was the Tour she became very ill and had to be taken home to Chicago, she never fully recoverd and died in 1972.

  • She was so famous. "Let there be peace on earth" truly an ecumenical song

applicable to all religions and nations. I remember each time Mahalia Jackson

appeared on a TV program, it was like a special event.

  • great gospel voice,

  • Mahalia was an all time great, what soul & sincerity came from her heart & out of her mouth. She will never, ever be forgotten!

     Ron

  • she have a good voice

  • boy !!.. be pretty hard to say.. we cant see God out n about.. Shines Right Out , from In...just a Twinklin with Mrs. Jackson....WOO HOO.!!.

    peace.

  • There is something powerful when God teaches you how to suffer..... Mahalia learned how to wait and depend on God solely..... This helped her through the Great Depression on the 1930s, a career that really took the world by storm in the fifties, and sickness and illness of the body. Let God lead and provide.

  • I'm not really good at waitin'. I always like things to get done and be done right then n' there. I'm always afraid of wastin' time waitin' instead of doin'. I don't know how she did it, but she did it.

  • Oh My God . . . . . I used to sing this in grade school. This reminds me of being small and innocent like all little kids are! Gotta LOVE Mrs. Jackson!

  • Fabulous!

  • I saw some video that Mahalia had lost a lot of weight, and she didn't look like her self at all. Did Mahalia when on with the sergury in spike of the risk?

  • Which video are you talking about for one? She had several heart attacks over the years, which (along with her eating and steroids) caused her weight to fluctuate. In late January of '72 she did have her bowel operated on and did not live long after the surgery...

  • The Video she sang The Lords Prayer, Just A Close Walk With Jesus. And at the end of her song, they showed her furneral. She was very small. Do you know that anyone has a funeral of her again? Because at the end of that video you could not see her face in the casket. The video was to dark. I want to see all the famouse people and friends atMiss Jackson funeral.

  • I saw one too when she was skinny. I could barely recognize her. It was 1967, and she was singing "Without A Song" in Berlin, Germany. Something kept buggin me on how she lost all that weight. It kind of scared me.

  • This is powerful. Where did you get this footage my mom and grandmother would love to have this. Can't NOBODY sing gospel like the queen. Thanks for posting!

  • it's from a documentary from 1969 about her titled, "Give God the Glory-Mahalia Jackson" you can find it on amazon or ebay...

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I've been trying to find this for a long time now. Again, thank you so very much!

  • I am so sorry if I offended anyone by my comment below (PennTrafford) about Mahalia's health and appearance. I am a nurse and this is just the way I think clinical issues through. To people unfamiliar with the medical lingo I realize it can come across as disconcerting.

  • Mahalia suffered from sarcoidosis the same disease that took Bernie Mac away from us. If you can recall Mahalia entered the hospital for intestinal obstruction. She refused to have the blockage removed via her throat (she thought it would ruin her vocal cords). Instead they performed surgery but her body was too weak to recover probably due to sarcoidosis.

  • Lord Have Mercy. She must have went through alot. I read at one point that she went into the hospital so that the doctors could remove a sarcoid tumor, but I just thought that it was just as normal as a regular tumor. I had no idea it was critical. Then again, all tumors are critical. What exactly is sarcoidosis? I've never heard of it?

  • Pretty much your body (inside and sometimes out) is riddled with tiny tumors. it can effect your breathing and already being a heavy woman, mahalia really had it rough. Berney Mac had this as well. And your welcome about the documentary post.

  • If you have the box set of Mahalia Jackson part two you can see a tumor on her lower right lip.

  • Really? Oh man ;(

  • cousin mahalia jackson there no gospel singers that I can compare her to at all shes and her on lead beyounce could not sing this any way people need now computer voice and ehanceing there vocals this is pure raw talent

  • I feel those goosebumps!! Thank you for posting this <3

  • Mahalia looks very ill during the stage performance -- she is very puffy and looks weak. This was before many of today's diuretics had been developed, so it was hard for her body to get rid of excess fluid, further stressing her heart. She must have felt tired all the time...

  • your right my cousin mahalia jackson did not look well but she want him to be with the lord

  • The film this segment came from states exactly how sick she was. She took Prednisone, which is a steroid. It does cause that type of phycical appearance. In the film Mahalia states that she felt "as if I were dragged over railroad ties." She was exhausted. I understand completely what you are saying here. She was tired and ill.

  • Now I didn't know about that. All I knew was that she was sick. I had no idea she was on any medication to make her look like that. I just thought she was just aging.

  • She had sarcoidosis. The same illness that took Bernie Mac's life. Steriods are used for treatment which causes what they call moon face.

  • what a beautiful piece. Ms.Mahalia will forever

    be the greatest.

  • Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me. This song is important today as it was 30 or 40 years ago. Let's hope and pray that someday there will be peace on earth and what Mahalia sing about so beautiful will come true.

  • how do we get this video?

  • It's called "Give God the Glory," one of her late European tours with many personal shots of Mahalia. It's really nice.

  • WONDERFUL! WONDERFUL!! When she sings, Oh my Lord. Thank you Jesus!!!!

  • Incredible. This a cool and inspiring video.

I love this video as well as the song.

Mahalia Jackson; God bless her soul.

    Thanks for sharing this video.

  • This BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL WOMAN - just moves me like no other - she is so soothing to the soul - her voice is a voice that has been given by God - her voice alone as a friend on an Aretha site said' Would have gotten her into Heaven alone' !

God Rest You In Eternal Peace Mahalia!

  • The "kat"s on the keys are Dr. Charles Clency on the organ, and the late Gwendolyn Lightner on the piano during the concert.

  • God bless the city of Berlin and all of Germany.

  • who is the kat on the keys?

  • How awesome this must have been live! Makes you look forward to Heaven!!

  • How does every you tube video posted turn into two people fighting. How about everyone stay quiet and let the Master sing?

  • Hmmmm...Ms. Halie seemed to take wonderful care of her spiritual body. But unfortunately, she didn't seem to have very much interest in maintaining her physical body. Consequently, she had major health problems at an early age, and only lived sixty years. But during her short stay here, she moved millions with her blessed contralto. I would love to see and hear her sing and shout on the otherside one day!

  • I wouldn't say that. Mahalia had Sarcoid, which caused tumors to grow throughout her body. The steriod she had to take Prednisone, boosted her already huge appetite. So it was the strain of her hectic career, the tumors in her lungs and heart and rest of her body. Of course her being so heavy didn't help but ultimately it was the Sarcoid Disease that killed her. Few knew that she was as sick as she was.

  • How do you know all that? I am curious, as most Internet refences say that she died from heart failure...

  • I have a copy of her biography by her close friend, Lauraine Goreau, 'Just Mahalia, Baby'. It is real, it doesn't make her out to be a saint (like most authors) or a villain (like some of her contemporaries in 'The Gospel Sound' & 'Uncloudy Day'). The book lets you see, MAHALIA! Human: Sweet, energetic, funny, blunt, tempermental; loving neice, devoted sibling, caring cousin and aunt, shrewd business woman; witty, wise, southern! I love it.

  • In the 70's I spoke twice with Goreau on the phone, and yes, you're right about Mahalia. You have taken a rational view of her. Admirable.

  • 'Just Mahalia, Baby' gives you the details of her personal life: Her love life, family life and her health issues which it seems were complex.

  • I've always been a diehard fan (I have multiple collections of her recordings) and I think I'm going to buyh the book. Thanks for letting me know about it! Your friend was priveleged to write the biography of such a talented woman.

  • my cousin look sick she dont look the some in here

was she haveing hearth problems in here

  • She is NOT your cousin. How dare you speak such blasphemy?

  • how would you know this?

  • Hmmmm...wonder why every person around her is white?

  • it was during that time...Black people had to hear her in church.

  • What do you think how many black people in Berlin live?

  • She looks very ill in the last clip i know she had problems with her health but was it at that moment?she was the greatest! Thanks Dennis

  • Amazing.

  • Thank you for posting this song. It has special meaning for me: it is also the National Theme Song for as association of Spiritualist Churches in America. Wherever you go, in any state, they sing this song and if you know it you can join in. Mahalia and her producers were far sighted to have her record it 30 years ago. It once was a pop song but now is a church hymn.
