I got this cd when it first came out in 89.. Back then, a deck just to play 1 cd was $300. I still have the case and everything.. You never hear an album anymore that tells a story...
Queensryche is and always be one of my favorite bands. This piece is a work of art. I can't even explain how much this band means to me, how they have affected my subconscious in such a way, that it makes me look at the world differently. I love their music, it is so dark and yet so healing.
WARNING You 8 people who dislike this perfromance need to seek medical attention LIKE NOW. Are you serious? Maybe the greatest live performance of one song I've ever seen.
@rjdshmetal I agree! I have been ADDICTED to this Album/Videos for over 22 years. This album from Queensryche - "Operation MindCrime" with the videos that followed the release of the album in 1988 and the1990 Live Crime Video that this vid is from, marked a change in Metal/Rock History. Nothing was ever like it before, nor has ANYTHING been produced like it since. It is the Greatest Metal Saga of all time. IT IS SO GREAT! Please go to my channel for more Ryche!
Been listening to this since it came out. Never gets old. This song (and really the whole album) is a master piece in every aspect. Well written with contrasting styles in different sections that transition extremely well, passionately performed, and recorded and mixed masterfully to allow you to hear all that is going on. The technical ability of the musicians is evident without showing it off. Tate's voice is amazing, but the backing vocals are nearly as impressive. What else could you want?
I bought this tape the first day it came out and still have it.Still listen to' Ryche to this very day. No one in todays music field even comes close to their greatness.
This album, this concept, is sheer brilliance. And Suite Sister Mary is the glue that holds Mindcrime together IMHO. Seeing this performed live gave me chills.

Does anyone know if this album is based on a true story? I heard years ago that it was, but never found any confirmation. If it is factual, when and where?

Holy shit this is great. . . but have you checked out their new guitarist's side-project? It's fucking badass!!!!!! The only song I've heard is called Don't wake me up. . . just search Parker Lundgren on iTunes. Ridiculously good!
Hey, have you guys heard of Queensryche's side-project? Featuring their guitarist Parker Lundgren & Brett Pemberton? It's fucking incredible.
Just search "Parker Lundgren" in iTunes. The song's called Don't wake me up. Pretty badass tune. I just bought it. Lemme know what you think! I hope they do a tour. . .
Without this song, "Operation: Mindcrime" would be a mere shadow of what we all know it to be. What an epic....gives me chills and wells my eyes EVERY time I hear it....totally awe-inspiring!!
This album and Metallica's "And justice for all..." were the two big reasons I got into Metal, I have always liked Queensryche more because they have pushed many limits and they, to me, only have a few bad songs. I have seen them live twice and both times were an amazing experince. They are, to me, better live because you can see and feel everything they have to give face to face.
This album and this song in particular changed my life! I was 15 and until I heard this, was mostly into mindless bubble gum rock like Poison. The substance and passion of Ryche blew me away and I've been a fan ever since.
I think all metal bands should go the route of a concept album at least once. One song is not often enough to tell a whole story. This album sort of reminds me of the Bourne trilogy. At least in some small way. Love it as well as all of the stuff the Ryche put out. Rage for Order is also amazing. They grab ahold of my soul with the music and vocals.
Saw them in concert on this tour back in the day. This is the song that I remember the most. I love when the lady playing Mary comes in and sings. Good times.
@Modernssj actually i'm sorry i take that back.. Nikki didn't kill her...after visiting with Dr.X again he goes back to the church to find Mary dead, hanging from her own rosary. He's not sure whether or not he killed her.
@Modernssj, according to Operation:Mindcrime, it "looks" like Mary was murdered, obviously they blamed Nikki and locked him up. If you haven't yet, you must listen to Operation:Mindcrime II to find the answer. RYCHE ON!!
I've seen them live 3 times: Operation Livecrime, Empire, and in a small venue in Denver. Awesome every time. The Denver show was Mindcrime + Mindcrime 2 or whatever they called it. AWESOME BAND and Geoff is unbelievable!!!!!!
@amandajean1324 pamela moore.I'm friends with her on my space. She's down to earth and not egotistical at all. Great vocalist and good person. I saw her at the Warfield in San Fransisco.
Absolutely one of the greatest live bands ever! Seeing this takes me back to a place and a time in my life that was so fun. I saw this tour once in Indy, and once in Milwaukee. So much talent these guys have, and so under rated. I guess what they do is too deep for the simple majority to appreaciate? Strange world where Miley Cirus sells millions, and most people don't even know who Queensryche is. What a great band, then...and now!
I agree with you Midcrimeo it is Stiil as powerful now as the day it came out. These guys are a AMAZING live too. Saw them a few times, and on The Operation Mindcrime tour.
Fk!!!! I left my Mindcrime CD in old car I had taken to junk yard!!! Guess its a good excuse to get another. This will be the 3rd. The first just got played out all the time.
Incredible song from an incredible album. I remember putting my newly purchased cassette tape of Mindcrime in the tape deck of my 1980 Monte Carlo and blasting it all over town. Saw them open for Metallica on the Justice Tour, for Ozzy on the Ultimate Sin Tour, saw them headline the Empire Tour, and just saw them last year at a small club here in Michigan. They are an amazing band. Queensryche, thanks for all the years.....you guys are a class act!
I was blessed to hang with them..they opened this tour in Amarillo,Tx..they were in town for two weeks pryor gettn the bugs out of their system..got to hang with all except G.T...he was kinda a loner..had backstage passes at the Dallas show, was excited to meet G.T....but got too fucked up to even go backstage..no biggie tho...they were all very fuckn nice guys..had a blast..one hella of a tour...those guys are very good at what they do!!
Holy shit!!!! I went to a lot of concerts in the 80s, never got a chance to see Queensryche. I thought the Scorpions put on the best show. Damn I wish I couldve seen them. Awesome
I remember when I got this album. Was a teenager and was wanting to get it but was broke. Found 20 bucks on the floor of the mall. Bought this cd! Blew me away. Been a Ryche fan ever since. Brilliant start to finish and this song for me is the high point of the whole masterpiece. Friggin' awesome to this day.
When I first heard this song, I thought, "what kind of devil music is this?". So glad I didn't stop listening and learned it's part of the storyline for QR's masterpiece - 'OPERATION:MINDCRIME'.
Operation Mindcrime..The best Queensryche album as well as THE BEST concert that I've ever been to. Amazing musicians, absolutley amazing in every aspect. Know that album like the back of my hand. Will never ever get old.
@Tris67 You....you...lucky bastard! LOLOL. I wish I could've seen this back in the day. Was like 15 at the time and couldn't convince the parents to go (damn them!!). Funny thing is, bout 5 years later I played the "Empire" album for my dad and he's been a fan for years now. He wishes he had gone to this tour too. Paybacks are a bitch....LOL
Queensryche Camp - never heard of it , why did you hear of something similar to my theory cause I have done this - not to get a cheap thrill - and like I said , I really and truly felt her presence . Now laying naked on the bed while listening to the song may seem strange but it is not to be used as an attempt for sexual pleasure , I shared this because I did it and it tripped me out because her spirit was hovering over me , She was in tears , thats the "RAIN COMING DOWN" Part !
Oh , Wanna get tripped out even more and ONLY if your have no fears what so ever , do this at 10:00 P.M. On a night when it is raining outside , I assure you she will appear even sooner and you may feel the sheets start moving , but you are laying on top of your bed , the sheets moving is Mary getting under the blankets cause she is content with you , she will know you are not wearing anything but remember , don't touch her because that will frighten her off !
Wanna Feel The Pain that Mary felt as far as the story goes in the song , Go into your bedroom , Remove all your clothes , start this song and Lay on your Back on your Bed , Oh and keep Your Hands To Your Sides . You WILL feel Mary's presence in the form of a cold wind , She will be above you but DO NOT try to reach out and touch her , Let Her Come to you . Listen thoroughly to the story of the song and you will feel what she had to go through that night . It tripped me out , Let Me Know !
Fellow You Tubers , Try this and get back with me and let me know what you experienced , but please I am not sharing this in a sick perverted way but it was something I tried and it worked . Sick disgusting come backs towards me and I'll just laugh at you , Continued -->
@Mindcrimeco i've seen this show twice- they r literally the BEST band ever- n give the BESTest live perfomances!!!!i have seen then perform for 20 years!!!! i also know them- (: for real- they r wonderful people!
Not my all time favorite band or song, but definately my all favorite album. The storyline and music is amazing. I saw it live and it was the best concert I have ever seen.
I saw this concert in Columbus back then. It is an American rock opera. It has to rank along with classic pieces of the world. Queensryche performed realistically about political corruption in their works. Just look at Washington D.C. If anyone couldn't see it there, then they are truly blind.
I have to say this is their best song, and definately their best album of all time and way up there on best albums of all time saw them in 91 in Madison
hey thewalterramm, there isn't a band today that could put this together, your lucky its available to you for your education, theses guys were masters of this kind of music,i had lyrics ,melodie, and relevance, unlike most crap today
I wasnt talking about today - I was talking then... I am a QR fan - I just don't think this song is all that many people make it to be. I think Eyes is a better song - without all the theatrics. As to a better song now - you are right - but there are many from that era bette - not to start a flame war, but half a dozen metallica songs are better, and at least that many Floyd songs.
I saw them in 1989 when they opened for Metallica on the Justice tour...as awesome as Metallica was..Queenryche played mindcrime all the way through and were mind blowing..I still remember those high notes..
To this day, I STILL listen to this masterpiece! Brilliant! I get chills listening to the notes following the lyrics " . . . they're mine". I wish I would've seen them in concert.
In the video Eye of a Stranger, you see Dr X holding a rosery/cross in both hans as if he is about to strangle someone. The implication, I believe" is that he strangled her and framed Nicky for her murder.
They re-released a live version of both Operation Mindcrime one and two. In it, if I recall correctly, they show Mary kill herself after Dr. X called her with the command. But I agree, this is a great album.
9 people just stood there and watched him bleed.

I LOVE that he keeps with the original melody line even when he sings it live. Pamela is OUTSTANDING in her musical performance!

I've had the priviledge of seeing Mindcrime performed in it's entirety 3 different times. By far the greatest concerts I've ever seen!

Nothing like rock opera to swell the glans.
garytheagnostic 2 years ago 5
I saw this concert in Columbus back then. It is an American rock opera. It has to rank along with classic pieces of the world. Queensryche performed realistically about political corruption in their works. Just look at Washington D.C. If anyone couldn't see it there, then they are truly blind.

hey thewalterramm, there isn't a band today that could put this together, your lucky its available to you for your education, theses guys were masters of this kind of music,i had lyrics ,melodie, and relevance, unlike most crap today

This comment has received too many negative votes show
I like some - not all - particularly this song - it seems Tate was trying to write rock opera and this is overdone

I saw them in 1989 when they opened for Metallica on the Justice tour...as awesome as Metallica was..Queenryche played mindcrime all the way through and were mind blowing..I still remember those high notes..

So did Mary kill herself ? I have had a copy of this disc in my car and house for 15 yrs absolutly the best album EVER !!!!!
redblazingfish 2 years ago
In the video Eye of a Stranger, you see Dr X holding a rosery/cross in both hans as if he is about to strangle someone. The implication, I believe" is that he strangled her and framed Nicky for her murder.
mettall1981 2 years ago
They re-released a live version of both Operation Mindcrime one and two. In it, if I recall correctly, they show Mary kill herself after Dr. X called her with the command. But I agree, this is a great album.
