I think two matches that I wish would've taken place back in the heyday of tag wrestling would've been the Road Warriors vs The British Bulldogs and The Hart Foundation vs Midnight Express classics that we all missed out on but none-the-less we were given countless classic tag matches from the true tag teams of that era!!! Salute to REAL tag team wrestling!!!
The tag team scene today is worthless I'll give credit to a few teams that came along in the past ten years but not very many!!! Beer Money Inc, and the Dudley's come to mind and possibly the Hardy's but that's where the buck stops because every other makeshift team they've thrown together would've been jobbers with no ring music back in the glory days!!!
Today's WWE headliner tag teams, such as Cody Rhodes/Debiassi Jr and all the others would be yesterdays NWA one-match-no-name-jobbers of the week, period.
we use to joke as kids how you would hear the 'iron man" music start and before a minute of the music played the warriors would barrell ass into the ring and beat the crap out of whoever was in the ring....haha. damn...good old days. i miss it
I would have had LOD go over here or in another event before Rude jumped ship for a nice long reign with the belts as faces. I didn't like the fact that they won the belts as heels a year and a half after this, especially after getting screwed at Starrcade 87 in their own hometown.
Jesus Christ, I don't remember Hawk ever bringing a mace to the ring. I always liked Rude and Fernandez as a team. It added an extra dimension to the heel side of the NWA so that it wasn't always the Horsemen or the Midnight Express at the top of the card.
Notice it didn't take 5 mins. for each tag team to get to the ring,Also they didn't need to take the mic and talk for another 10 mins. before they started wrestling.Man I really do miss those daysThanks for posting.
@pdynamics1 the road warriors held the tag team title in the WWF. I think Hawk's substance abuse had more to do with inconsistent tenure in the WWF then Vince burying them.
@jpkayfabe83 - Do you remember Rocko (I think that is how u spelled his name) where Paul E. had to carry that stupid puppet? Even Hawk hated the idea when I saw him in an interview and felt it defiled the stigma of the R. Warriors...
so ill. How over were the warriors? They come out second against the champs. As far as booking...it's hard to front on either of these teams. I know dusty was super jealous of the warrior which is probably why he tried to turn them heel.
@TBirdSCIL it's nice that you think but there was so much talk of this in the industry at the time that I beleive he was jealous of younger hipper stars like the warriors and sting.
You just knew that The Warriors were so damn tough even when their music came on. I mean, that was such awesome music. I have NO clue why Dusty wouldn't book them as the champion when they were so over. He had to turn them heel to win the belts. It took away from everything they were as great tweeners
the road warriors are an eva will be the benchmark that the little girls of tna an wwe have to aspire too, long live the animal an give them hell in hades hawk.....
If my memory serves me, Rick Rude and Manny Fernandez held the NWA tag titles for 6 mos and never actually lost the belts. Rude was leaving due to a contract dispute and they had a non televised title switch with the Rock and Roll Express claiming Rude was "injured". My favorite tag tem ever.
I would've never known about the Iron Man song if it wasn't for the Road Warriors! The music made the characters so much bigger to me! I don't even want to talk about the wrestling of today, just garbage. And like ucladodgerdog said, real music!
To me Bull and Rude were the best tag team of all time. They worked so well with ea other and style fits any team they worked. Both guys are in my top 5 workers of all time.
True story originally Rick Rude was going to team with Animal instead of Hawk Ole Anderson called Ed Sharkey and asked him to send him a wrestler to team with Animal so Rude went but Anderson didn't like how they looked together so he sent Hawk
Look at the HOF'ers in this match! Rick Rude, one of the 10 best of all time, in my opinion. If you remember his time in the WWF, no one, at all, drew as much heat as Rude. Watch, wrestlers of today, this is how you take a bump. Most people just remember the WWF Legion of Doom, but this is the best tag team ever in their prime. Raging Bull could do it all also-face, heel, bumping machine. Great stuff
@Wampaa yeah but they probably said somethin like...hey man...remember back in Minnesota when we got really fucked up then went 2 Ed's so he could teach us wrestling...half is camp is in the ring...(Sharkey that is)...
Thanks for this video....I grew up being a die hard Road Warriors fan but I always loved Rude as a heel and Mannt Fernandez was always one of the best in the biz (the flying burrito!!)....awesome videos...this stuff takes me back to good old days growing up. Hell I wanted to BE Arn Anderson til I was probably 12-13..lol.
R&R was the most unlikely team ever to get over with me, managed by the lame(in my opinion) Paul Jones, Rude and Fernandez even made HIM look cool. Rude was the smooth operator, and Manny was the enforcer...
They would have had a time with Manny and Rude. Rude is often cited as one of the toughest and strongest wrestlers of his era. I think even the Road Warriors have named him as such. they all used to work together as bouncers in Minneapolis (Barry Darsow and Nikita Kollof and one or two others also), and they all say Rude was the toughest guy on the scene. Manny has quite a rep as well.
Damn no one here mentions who' s doing play by play ? The one and only Big Daddy Dink!! OLIVER HUMPERDINK! Manger of Scott Bam Bam Bigelow Mr Wonderful etc....
There was something about R&R entering to We Will Rock You, through the crowds, that just stuck with me ever since the 80's. It was bad ass, but smooth and tough. Or as Manny would say, totally AWESOME.....
i was two years old wen this match took place but dam from the time i remeber around(89) to now 2008 wrestling has changed big time u dont have tuff guys like these 4 anymore this geneartion of stars r a bunch a little bitches john cena batista are gurls compare to these 4 they would of got laughped at in the 80s wen wrestling u needed to b tuff

yeah, i'm with you on that point..Rude, the Warriors, Manny was a beast in those days..the four guys in this clip are arguably legit tougher than the whole current wwe roster combined..
where did this kind of wrestling go?? I feel sorry for the kids that have to watch the sports entertainment these days..those of us who watched the mid 70's thru the late 80's, man, great stuff..
This was about the time I actually started watching wrestling. Rude doesn't get enough credit as a legend. The Road Warrior gimmick is up there with Hulkamania and Taker as some of the all-time best.
I remember Ravishing Rick Rude in the WWF he had the best body that was muscular and lean at the same time very rare Rude was a one of a kind wrestler he had the complete package a wrestling body with good wrestling skills and a great heel persona and amazing mic. skills R.I.P. Rick Rude you were the man.
I loved Paul Jones Army. Be it Russians, Rude & Manny. Paul seemed to have the most success at getting fan favorites to jump the fence. mmmm Who am I leaving out, oh yeah. Da Baron. If this is the Eddie Graham Memorial Show, the announcers are not acting like it. All they do is mention Southern Pro Wrestling, as if this is just the weekly show.
Not too many could intimidate one of my favs, The Ravishing One into keeping his robe on for any length of time. The Road Warriors could, they did and they ruled tag team wrestling! RIP Ric and Hawk ...
Wow!!! I made this tape this back in 1987. I uploaded it into Imesh and Bearshare. I can't believe it made it all the way to youtube a few years later!! I'm so glad that so many are enjoying it!! UNBELIEVABLE!! RIP Hawk & Rude.
Manny Fernandez was one of the most underrated wrestlers of all-time. Manny Fernandez WAS and Still is a TEXAS LEGEND..Now I know there is Austin, Undertaker, Booker T, Von Erichs, But Manny Wrestled Everywhere and Anyone before it was popular..He feud with Dusty Rhodes was a classic......
Manny was a Flordia Heavyweight champion and beat terry funk for the belt and received an NWA shot at Harley Race. He was a main event wrestler! He should've had more sucess!
i always liked that team also. too bad rick rude left for the wwf soon after this. this team could have had a great run in the nwa. i wish vince would have taken the bull with rude and maybe had heenan manage them. that would have been awesome!! i smell championships!!
I know. Makes you wonder if Manny was offered to come by Vince and turned him down. He didn't stay in the the NWA long after rude left. Manny left the NWA when things were really starting to cook.
that is very so true. I really agree with you 100%. They didnt even have the iron man music. That what a rush music was trash and their spikes were red. They lack the rawness when they came to the wwf/wwe.
Hmmm...I actually LIKED their WWF theme music. It became crap when they changed it for LOD2000 (sense a pattern here?). Anyway, can we also have more Rude/Fernandez matches here please? I want more Awesome Twosome!

Man, every time I see LOD in the ring,
it's pretty apparent that any if of their matches more than just "entertainment",
the Road Warriors would've simply just mopped the ring with their opponents.
R&R, Midnight Express, even all of the Four Horsemen,
none of 'em in reality would've stood 2 minutes with these guys.
And that's the bottom line, brother.

Manny Fernandez was exciting to watch. he left the NWA around the time Rick Rude did. Paul Jones had a stable of wrestlers.
