I kind of agree with you. I was listening to "The Sword" and I think that they are the type of band that bring their own style to the table. I think that what is happening also is that metal has endured for so long (long live metal!) that it becomes harder to differentiate yourself from all that has already been put out. (and also, there is a demand and some bands are just there to fill the demand with what people want, which a lot of the time is what they have already heard.)

When Megadeth went mainstream, it was probably Marty Friedmans fault, since he's a pop guitarist "by heart". Mustaine knew he was the best lead guitarist he had and he agreed because he didn't want to loose him. That's my hypothesis anyway.
Nah I think Marty Friedman added a lot of great characteristics to Megadeth. It was Friedman's exotic metal shit that gave Dave and megadeth that cutting edge for thrash. You really got to see some of the technical shit that was brought to the table. Marty Friedman is the shit especially with all those weird chorus breakdowns. It's like some of his shit was kinda dreamy, but then Dave breaks out with his fucking snotty riffs and brings everything together.
Yes! Of course! Marty was a great guitarist!! He's my favorite from Megadeth. He made some insane metal music, but once it was out of his system, he wanted to try something else. He said himself he left Megadeth to play pop-rock.
WTF? Marty Friedman was METAL and had records out when Mustaine was still sitting in his basement learning how to play. Not to mention that Mustaine never let anybody wedge in on the songwriting so I don't know how you can blame Marty for Megadeth going soft. I kind of agree with you. I was listening to "The Sword" and I think that they are the type of band that bring their own style to the table. I think that what is happening also is that metal has endured for so long (long live metal!) that it becomes harder to differentiate yourself from all that has already been put out. (and also, there is a demand and some bands are just there to fill the demand with what people want, which a lot of the time is what they have already heard.)

When Megadeth went mainstream, it was probably Marty Friedmans fault, since he's a pop guitarist "by heart". Mustaine knew he was the best lead guitarist he had and he agreed because he didn't want to loose him. That's my hypothesis anyway.

Nah I think Marty Friedman added a lot of great characteristics to Megadeth. It was Friedman's exotic metal shit that gave Dave and megadeth that cutting edge for thrash. You really got to see some of the technical shit that was brought to the table. Marty Friedman is the shit especially with all those weird chorus breakdowns. It's like some of his shit was kinda dreamy, but then Dave breaks out with his fucking snotty riffs and brings everything together.
