I prefer IM.. MSN is an instant messaging program, you can share pictures, and play games also, another good feature is if you both have a microphone you can talk over the computer and if oth have webcams you can see eachother just like in person.

I think texting is more convient at times because your friends aren't home all the time on their e-mail to IM. You can text where ever, and if you want to have a full conversation without waiting for a reply(Try calling them) but IM is good too.
