the Laws of Physics stated that no known force in this universe can dislike a song like this... then came the quantum anomaly of Rebecca Black fans... and we have 13 dislikes...
@destroyerr558 This is the combination of two different parts of the song. Part II is from the special edition of blackwater park. The originals don't flow together like this version does.
@DecapitatedONE666 an interestingly defunct and obtuse retort sir...with a screenname like that, you dont share my atheism? not to mention the original comment i responded to included the phrase "jesus is god" which is biblically incorrect. problem?
does patterns in the ivy I remind anyone of sims? i dunno why but whenever i hear it, it reminds me of that ambient music in the sims. Still... a beeaeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaautiful song. So SO SO glad they played it live at the royal albert hall
I've had Blackwater Park for about a year now. I didn't know there was a Patterns in the Ivy Part II. So beautiful. Opeth always blows me away when they shove the amp in a closet and pull out their acoustics. I like the hard stuff, too, but stuff like this, like To Bid You Farewell, all of Damnation, it's what gets the most plays and sticks in my head the longest. Damn, I really want to go to their concert in Atlanta :(
@kathunx97 i remember in an episode of south park, eric(hates hippies)came across some hippies, and he thought:wait,wait....what should jesus do?...then he pulls out a gun and starts shooting them screaming:DIE HIPPIES,DIE
this was on the special edition of blackwater park, the original lacked this song as well as still day beneath the sun, the special edition was released a year later (wiki)
this song just makes everything feel so different such deep feeling that could arise from inside something that we think we cant describe music like this makes me proud that im different and takes to a whole other time
I now see why theres only the first part of it on the regular version of BWP. Its clearly better IMO and the second part doesnt come anywhere close to this.
Patterns 1: I picture myself walking in the middle of nowhere while snow gently falls. I keep walking in bliss and just when the song ends - I find myself in Blackwater Park.
which is all well and good, if you want to make a strategy of dying and creating a spiritual rift in the world, but I find it far more affective to think
in my opinion OPETH are master musicians and have perfected their craft ...i love how they go from such a classical acoustic feel to metal and growling i love it so unique and not alott of bands can pull this off in any genre
One of the best bands out there. My band are deeply inspired by Opeth, mainly their acoustic or softer melodic material, but it sucks because we know that we'll never be able to do it anywhere near to the standard that Opeth do. It's easy to write a badass riff thats so heavy it makes a whale look like a feather and put some sick drumming and vocals to it, but this is the real musical talent. Rant over.
I'm trying to think of the words to express what I just experienced. It was spiritual. When the actual lyrics "Patterns In The Ivy" Came in.. I felt a euphoric wave. It was almost like a high. Life seems so difficult at times... and I'm so thankful that I have this music to alleviate some of my burden.
@cvasudevan82 Well there was no reason to call it the most boring band on the face of the earth, especially since a lot of their stuff is fast paced. :P
But I do understand. Well good luck man! Hope you can find some music that suits you. :)
@cvasudevan82 You might call this band boring, but to a true musician, listening to this is endless inspiration... the unique style, pattern, and sound overall just portrays a perfect, beautiful image of music theory itself.
jsbc003, fuck you, just listen to the uber talent in this song, this song is just a really well done beautiful song. its truly a relaxing masterpeice. you feel me dawg?
I listen to mostly Hiphop/ reggae/ Dubtep, but I must say Opeth blows my fuckin mind!! I gotta thank the sound man at a club I used to DJ at.. He would always play this song and Road to Perdition all the time while I was setting up!! I AM THANKFUL HE DID!!
Is it me, or does a lot of Opeth's acoustic songs sound like the Diablo music? That's what it reminds me of. At any rate this band is one talented group, unlike anything Ive ever heard.
@LotocSabbath The second part is one of the bonus track on a special edition of Blackwater Park. The other bonus track of this album is 'Still day beneath the Sun'.
I remember back in late 2001 I read about Blackwater Park and checked out this band. Little did I know the treat I was in for. As someone who digs early 70s European prog rock as much as metal, Opeth is the most fluid and frankly, the best combination of both. I have found so many good artists through Akerfeldt's interviews as well. This is a special band. I have their earlier releases on 2xlp vinyl and that adds yet another dimension to the sound. Modern vintage. Fulfilling. Fucking brilliant.
Not everyone likes the same music, everyone is different. I'm sick of seeing all these negative comments about those who disliked vids. If everyone was the same we'd just be a bunch of weird conformist fucks. Just feel priveleged that you're one of the few who enjoys this magnificent music.
