The man is a legend. He speaks to the Australian conciousness that many of us still believe in. I saw him live 3 weeks ago and he was just brilliant. If you get the chance see the man. He is the total opposite of a rock star. He is a song writer. I love the dude.
was ten years old when this first came out and it sounds as good as ever. Go and see this man in concert. still doing plenty of gigs and sounds as good as ever
Bluesfest Byron Bay, Australia - just confirmed RICHARD CLAPTON to rock out this easter .... 5-9 April ... all the hits, all the songs... the soundtrack to the australian genertations...
HI Richard good song,I have a new song called So I Sing Some Sad Songs'Original, also If I could change the world,Original, all my songs are Original. Thanks GARY V.
@GhostofSirJoh as a new zealander I like to claim the bulk of Australian music, or at least give my home country the credit... I just like doing that as a Kiwi... :-)
@Chedi57 ...lol, i forgot I even wrote that. Nobody in The Saints, AC/DC, The Church, The Sunnyboys and REDGUM were Kiwi... but some of these bands did have British or European members :-/
thanks for the posting , great song from a great aussie artist ,if you surfed ,smoked was 16 to 20 when this album came out ,us aussies at the time only had a few of OUR artists to kling too so thanks ralph there is not a song of yours i dont like , style plus ,love mary too
Richard is one of Aust greatest ever. Those that are just discovering him now you have all been missing out for years, buy his greatest hits album you will not regret even better live.
A great track to listen on Australia day! Under the Great Southern scorching sun of ours. Mates over, drinking some tinnies, a few steaks on the BBQ, thinking lightly and glad we live in the greatest country in the UNIVERSE!
I have to agree with nzoz1982, the music and the moment , to the local pubs&clubs to rejoice in the wonderful talent that I've grown up with, loud and local it was. I couldnt have a better soundtrack to accompany my story>
Richard is an Aussie Rock Legend....wow we were all raging out with love in our hearts and a beer in our hands at the local pub on a big Saturday night
These were the best years of our lives....Richard Clapton always brings back memories of those halcyon days.....Love listening to this and reliving memories of good friends and simpler times.
They had a great manager - Michael Chugg. I love this song although Rich leaves my verse out of when he sings it these days. I love the mention of Gurdjieff too.

I am a very biased lover of Aussie music, I firmly believe that to achieve success Oz bands had to learn their craft in the live Pub rock scene that was so full on in the 70's and 80's. We can have it all again if all the poker machines are consigned to landfill and Hotels get back to real entertainment.
@snifferenator I don't think the current youth are up to the challenge, they for the most part are too removed from the organic society. only those of us old enough to remember how it felt to be alive in the 70s can truley fathom. they, like every other musical generation before will only interpret their own place in time. it's just unfortunate that mainstream music is now reduced to being a soundtrack for mobile phone jingles, brand names Etc. weve seen them rock and mostly they sux
There are only a handful of songs that bring me to tears. This is one one them. As a Sydney boy, this song is timeless and defines my youth. Truly beautiful.
i'm starting to believe that the best thing for Australian rock was for it to stay in Australia and be out of the overly critical and conceited minds of most foreign rock listeners. I am glad that Richard Clapton didn't break in to the international market. I am glad that the majority of our brilliant home grown music has stayed in Australia for Australian people. We have our own treasure chest that thankfully the rest of the world has not discovered yet.
Absolutely true...music is about the joy of performing, when it becomes X-Factor and all those reality crap shows, it just takes away the true meaning...
@nzoz1982 Well, it was before i've started to listen Aussie rock and country. :)))
First time I've heard one Aussie country song was 10 years ago. It was in Serbian documentary about life in Australia. Since than i've discovered plenty of great music thanks to web portals. So, your national treasure is recognised even in far Europe.
Yes I'm another Aussie working in London and seeing these film clips brings a tear of great memories to my eyes...
Saw RC play live at Maroubra Seals club then again at Selinas...great live shows. Does anyone remember the Kardoma Cafe at the Cross??? Great live venue, albeit sleazy but hey, that's rock for you.
I remember the name. I was a bit too young. I raw him Live a few months ago at my local pub in the Illawarra. What a great night.
Enjoy London mate. I worked there for a while and missed home too. Now I am home in the sunshine but I still miss working away from home. You can always come back.
Nice message. I remember living OS for 2 years and hearing the Aussie singers and bands was like hearing a familiar voice of a good friend. Keep listening to the Aussies! Good on ya.
The Lyrics are what have made this man immortal. I think if i studied the meaning to his songs instead of poets like Chaucer I woulds have been captivated at skool.
I echo everything chubfucka says. Clapton is consistently overlooked when folks talk about Australian music but in fact, there is no finer writer or performer, nor any as recognisable. Long live the KING!
