  • ur dog kinda acts like my dog pepper and this will help to train her.

  • Very good tutorial. Clear instructions and good examples. Nice to see that you were able to achieve such great results with homemade equipment. I was afraid that I would have to spend a bunch of money on steel based 2 x 2's. I can make your version out of pvc pipe really inexpensively. I'd rather spend the money on a quality set of 12 poles when the training period is over. Thanks!

  • Great tutorial!!

It has helped me a lot!!

  • Started my sweet little beagle Madison on agility about a year ago. She is a little older so we do it mostly for fun. I signed her up for agility class and they taught the channel method for weaves. The border collies got it, Madison not so much. Thanks to this video she is a pro now! Weaves was the last obstacle she had to master. Thank you so much for posting this...you have a fan in Colorado.

  • The poles are at about the same as 2:17 and Nellie doesn't go through them. She cuts out after the first one. Should we go back a step?? Help!

  • Thanks for this, i've just started introducing my 2 1/2 yr old GSD to agility and even though i had figured this was the best way to introduce the weave, it's great to see it in action and is well explained, nicely done!

  • great video!

    thanks a lot :)

  • Just wanted to update: this tutorial has helped me so much! I tried 2x2 a few months ago but had no clear way of teaching it, and we both became frustrated. Now a few months later, we are having an awesome time and she's getting it! :D Thank you!!!

  • @23Nellie1 I'm so glad it helped you! I love this method!

  • Did you build your weaves? What are the specifications of them? Great video. I love 2x2.

  • Hello fantastic video. could you tell me please how you made your poles or did you buy them thanks

    Mary

  • I'm gonna try teach chelsea to weave better using this great vid :D

  • I love this video. I have done tons of research and this was by far the easiest video to watch and understand. I have been practicing with my one year old PWD for a week and he doing great with 4 straight poles. The biggest challenge for us was finding the right combo of toys and treats. I plan to work wiht him a few more days to get him solid with distance and angles before adding poles 5 and 6. Thank you for taking the time to put this together, it is obvious you put alot of work into it.

  • Nice work this is a great video for others to learn from. I liked that you shot from over the jumps to clearly show the angles and progression!

  • Great vid, how did you make your weave poles?

  • ok what happens if he dont go thought them

  • @agilitydogtrainer1 He should. Hold a treat on one side and coax him through. And reward when he goes through.

  • i have a few questions.

    1. My dog is just learning and she is 2 we are still learning to jump on comand. what should i work on next like in order because i was thinking about doing this but i'm not sure if she would be ready....?

    2. where do you get the agility jumps, weaves, tunnel, & like dog walk? I can't find them any where so if it means i gotta make my own ok then lol

  • @TheIssabella1 For you first question- You should work on the jumps first. And, she is ready for training at any time =) It's just for fun. SO if you want to start with the 2x2s, go ahead! Take it slowly though! You want her to do it independantly.

And, search "agility equipment" on google and tons should come up on places where to get equipment. I make mine, it's easier!

  • What's with the waving of your hand through the weaves in the last session? Stay away and let your dog do the good job you just taught him!

  • @bskilling That's also when she first started out, sorry. I want success always. When she makes popping out a bit of a thing, I will do it again by helping her out a bit. The clips where she does it independently are much newer than the last one.

  • How old does your dog have to be to do this? KC is 13 months and Ive been using channels but she seems to be popping out a lot so I was gonna try this method. Should i wait another month or no? And i only have stike in the ground weaves so I cant really do this over the winter... Any suggestions?

  • @labcolliejumper33 Just over a year-ish should be good. I've been doing weaves since my pup was about 10 months. It's no big deal to start with the 1 set of 2x2 poles when they are under 1 year because it won't affect their joints or back. Same with the running through the 2 sets when they were further apart, but once the weaving motion is in, it can be difficult on their spines and joints, which is why you shouldn't make your dog do the weaving motion until they are fully grown.

  • @labcolliejumper33 Channels, my dog popped out a lot as well. I found the channel method didn't teach entries well either. But, you don't need to wait anymore. You could start now! But, with the stick in the ground weaves, darn, I don't know what you could over the winter =/ I thought about that myself. I was going to get stick in the ground weaves because they are cheaper, but I live in Alberta, Canada, so I thought "What would I do in the winter". Not sure =/ Im at loss for that as well.

  • @Court22132 lol so ok good cuz KC is already on starting on these. She is 13 months and im pretty sure she wont grow much bigger or at all. I asked for weave poles for christmas so ya hopefully i can get them and finish training or contiune training...

  • Well done!

  • how far apart should the pole be compared to the dogs size?

  • @LiveToRideAndJump It's not based on the dog's sized, it's based on the venue you trial with. NADAC (North American Dog Agility Council) is 22" between the poles, AKC (American Kennel Club) is 20" I believe, USDAA (United States Dog Agility Association) is Spacing: 18" - 21, and AAC (Agility Association of Canada) is 24" now. They are starting to change the spacing to 24" to make it safer on the dog's spine. SO I would use 24"

  • @Court22132 oh okay, thanks :D

  • awesome video! I think I'm going to try this method with cody. I've done EVERY other method literally and no progress so I'll have to give this one a shot!

  • @FlashyPony4Ever I had tried every method as well! But, once I tried this one, it worked instantly.

  • great tut!! =)

  • I taught the weaves with 2x2 for the last three dogs I taught and I love 2x2, my newest girl Cricket will start in a couple of weeks and I can not wait, weave training is so much fun. Kathy with Liz/Breeze/Cricket

  • Really good Video!!! I think I am gonna try 2x2's with Leap. Skye did Weave a matics and has STELLAR poles. I wanna try this though :) I think it will be better for Leap.

This helped me understand it too!

  • @BClover92 Thank you!

It took me a while to figure out this method when I first started. But now Shylohs weaves are great and I loved this method!

    Good luck =)

  • Oh, this is fantastic... Thank you so much! Very helpfull. :)

  • Thank You so much!!!! i'm going to start working with amber today after work. can't wait to try this with her. lol. i'm going to practice a lot for success not failure like you said !!! lol Great video!!!! you to did great!

  • great video ! :) awesome

  • awesome!!! I'm definitely gonna try that coz my dog is pretty bad at weave, he always runs faster than he's up to and skips some poles. Also, I have only cones, not poles, and they might be hard to see. But this will help him with his entries, I reckon, and weaving independantly... thanks :) Also, how far apart should the poles be? Like I have a mini poodle... Thanks! :D

  • awesome! thanks :) i was wondering how you taught shyloh how to weave! the meathod i tried was makin the poles in a zig- zag position and moving them closer and closer,..... sorta hard to explain... but i'm going to try this meathod! (sparky didn't learn much with the other meathod)

and were did you get your weve poles? i was going to make some out of pvc pipe, but then i though it might not work because the bottom wouldnt work well with plastic.... but idk..

  • @GoneToTheDoggy Oh, the one you do is the weave-o-matic method. It never worked with Shyloh and 2x2 help entries much more, and thats what is important with Shyloh. She is so speedy that she sometimes misses her entry.

I got my 2x2 weaves from Jessica, bostonterrier333. They are very easy to make, and they are made from PVC pipe. The bottom works very fine actually! The dog isn't stepping on the part so it works very well! =)

  • @Court22132 okay, thanks :)

  • @Court22132 oh my gosh :o i just spent like 10 minutes with sparky and he's weaving already!only 4 weaves, though, i have to make a weave set. right now i'm just taking apart my jumps and making weaves out of them. LOL but thanks so much again :)

  • great video. strange though that my agility class is teaching us differently yet with the 2x2 method. we have a reward line or something.

  • @mollybrandybillly Im confused lol!

  • @mollybrandybillly

it sounds like you are being taught susan garrett's 2x2 method which is not quite what is being shown in this video. the reward line is key with that method. Love the obstacle underanding pups get with learning on 2x2's!!!

  • oh wait i just remember i did do that tooo my bad lmao <3

  • gr8 weaves during this hmm i should retrain them like this i trained them differently ish i had them like | | like that ahaha but i always got stuck because everytime i moved htem clooser they would get so close chase couldnt fir through the middle lmao :L ahha thanks :S
