So board of people knocking crossfit - it works; the results always speak for themselves. Not only do you get the results but Glassman has made training to an elite level a really fun activity thanks to crossfit. @peterlangdown you spelled bored* wrong. I'll give it to this vid. It's one of the only crossfit vids I haven't wanted to cry while watching. Although, they could get their chests up more. You guys are shit talking haters. Crossfits deadlift is a hybrid between a romanian/straight leg as to put the load on the lower back, hams and glutes. It is built for speed and high reps. The focus is on developing fast hips and a strong core. There are many types of DLs.The conventional has the load placed on the legs and back. Crossfit has various squats and pull ups for that. I have been in the fitness industry for 20 years and yes very rarely do you see any type of DL being performed.STFU
"in a globo gym you don't see them performed. In a CrossFit gym they're the staples." ahahahahahahahahahahhaha, ah yes, the mystical deadlift, a secret known only to crossfitters and no one else. get over yourself.
I'd also like to add that I'd rather pay money to a trainer who has a college degree in physical fitness and/or an extensive background in working with athletes.
I don't know what this guy is talking about but I see people doing deadlifts at my "globo" gym. A crossfit box isn't the only place you will find athletes doing this type of exercise. Half the time in Crossfit comps they aren't even being done right. They're so worried about their time they throw form out the window. I'd rather learn Olympic lifts from a olympic lifting coach rather than from some Man/woman cleaning to know a thing or two about fitness just because they run a "box".
OK it's nice that Crossfitterfatters go and exercise but bullshitting people with pseudo-scientific mumbo-jumbo 'DL is in your dna you pick your keys and life is magnificent' - WTF?! :D
part of your DNA? lmao fail.... crossFit isnt bad,not great either, not to mention most ppl doin it never lifted before and their expected to do Olympic lifts, btw i lift at globo and do deadlifts twice a week

@Demmitri: Deadlifts work your posterior chain, everything from your calves, up through quads, hamstrings and glutes, then erector spinae, finishing off with traps and rhomboids, with your abs and obliques playing a major stabilizing role.
@Demmitri: The first phase of the lift is an anterior to posterior motion, as you use quads to get the bar up to around knee-height. Then it shifts to being a fully posterior motion as the glutes and hams drive the hips forward to generate lift, and then ending with the erector spinae fully upright, shoulders back into a locked out position.
@USMCM1A1 So basically to do a deadlift correctly you to push off with your legs up to your knees and then use your back and glutes to lift the rest of the way?
This is a complex, whole body movement that makes you functionally strong picking things up. Also, for people who tend to emphasize anterior lifts like squats and bench press, this is an important lift for balancing your body's front and back.
Know any good Spine DR? Whipping the neck like that will cause neck and low back problems, Head movements independent from hip drive should be save to max effort only
it is obvious from this Video that ALL C-fit DL key from their Hip flexors TOO much
Nice footage of the deadlift, but would someone please shut that man up? Yes, we know deadlifts are good, people have done them for years. Who the hell are you, the fucking Shamwow guy? Thank you for putting so much work into selling an exercise that has been done for 50 years, I forgot that you invented it. Honestly...
i understand that but the best way to go about that is to use a flat sole, chuck taylors are the perfect example. this gives you the best support asides from doing the lift barefoot. doing a compound lift in running shoes is similar to doing the lift on a mattress
It's a stiff legged deadlift, not a straight legged deadlift. There is a difference. The only requirement for the stiff legged deadlift is that the legs remain in the same position as you started the movement and end the same way.
good video. the first girl is an oly lifter, you can tell because of her perfect form and she shrugs the bar at the top of her lift... the second girl is just doing RDL's not the deadlift.

I love the deadlift.. its a fantastic bodybuilding exercise but i found that the trap-bar or standard deadlift done from knee height or maybe just below, gave much better bodybuilding results with regards to development in the upper back/shoulders. Re lower body, i did squats. People in video are not using perfect technique, incidently..
I have been to a crossfit certification, and all of these people are olimpic weight lifting certified. So before you speak, might want to do some research. They are right on! Ohh, and let's see your form. I'm sure it's awesome.
Holy cow this is atrocious. Every one of these individuals demonstrates some significant flaw in their deadlift form - some demonstrate several. For an organization that touts its focus on technique, this is pretty shameful. As weights increase these flaws will turn into injuries if not corrected. Some teaching from someone with a substantial powerlifting background would be in order here. This video should be called "How Not to Deadlift (CrossFit Style)"
Couln't agree more buddy.. technique is vital in the deadlift and if its not followed then injury is inevitable..eventually.. especially as the weight increases!
That one has poor hand position, is yanking out of the bottom, is unevenly touching during transition, is not fully extending/locking at the top or tucking the hips in, and is pulling straight up instead of back. She's a wreck.
Wow. Every single one of these people demonstrating deadlift form have bad form. None of them wait to get the bar above the knees before driving the hips forward and because of that they're all trying to lift the weight with almost 90% back and letting the weight pull them forward. This works, obviously, with the weenie weight they're using, but once you start hitting proper weight your spine'll crumble into fine powder. This video should be deleted.
Quite right! and the second girl her feet are too close together! People putting 'instructional' videos on the net should make sure they are at least qualified to catch bad form!
Foot placement is an individual preference. The closer your feet are to being under your hips the better for maximizing power. As long as your heels are carrying the weight and not the forefoot and your back is protected.
i dont like to put anybody down but this is useless watch Andy Bolton DL Videos or Jon Pall Sigmarsson Videos and you will see how to do a good deadlift
The "Health Lift" has two points of differentiation from a Dead-weight lift.
In the "Health Lift" machine, as with other variants ("Reactionary Lifter" "Adrian P. Schmidt's Automatic Exercise Device"), the palms of the hands are facing each other, approximately at mid-thigh height. The vertical movement is only a few inches and the weight is centered automatically, not on axles out to the side of the body. This allows for enormous weights to be lifted.
Lol. No offense to crossfit & all who participate, but anyone can do what they do, but with better form. I agree with some of u, that they worry about time rather than correct form. Just some general guidelines:
- 4-6 reps, 2 min rest, until you can't get 4 good reps, for strength.
- 8-10 reps for multiple sets (4 or 5) for hypertrophy (muscle growth)
- 12-15 reps for 3 sets for fat loss. You could do super and giant sets at this volume to really get EPOC up and lose fat.

It's not clear whether the video shows the students learning to do it (possibly incorrectly) or whether they demonstrate proper form.
