@Oximann I've spent a lot of time in Germany. I think you experienced some cultural issues. People tend to be reserved, don't smile unless they have a reason too, if you ask them a queston they will give you the shortest, most compact answer possible. If it can be answered solely with a ja or a nein, then that is the answer you will get. It takes them a while to warm up and get to know a person before they let that serious facade come down. It's just culture don't read too much into it.

@Oximann I for one would prefer that people smile when they have a reason to smile instead of walking around all day with a big fake smile plastered on their face all day long like so many here in the US do. Those fake smiles are a hell of a lot more frightening.

I JUST SAY I WAS SHOCKED WHEN I SAW HIM. he wasn t friendly, i live in france, and people are not rude like that;just at all. and for me he was sur a nazi during the war.

@Oximann I've spent a lot of time in Germany. I think you experienced some cultural issues. People tend to be reserved, don't smile unless they have a reason too, if you ask them a queston they will give you the shortest, most compact answer possible. If it can be answered solely with a ja or a nein, then that is the answer you will get. It takes them a while to warm up and get to know a person before they let that serious facade come down. It's just culture don't read too much into it.

Saudi Arabian Christians (never mind the foreign ones) aren't even allowed to build ONE church in their country, and that's just Saudi "culture". But Germans aren't sure they want 10,000 mosques littering their country and that's "racist".

@rscottbartholomew I wouln't judge what one country allows or doesn't allow based upon Saudi Arabia. We should be better than them. That's one thing that is great about the US for example, the enormous amount of religious freedom. I won't limit that, aside from the fact that it would unconstitutional to do so, because I want to be better than Saudi Arabia, etc.

@xexixk Wait, are we talking about the US or Germany? If we're talking about Germany, then let's stick to what's great about Germany, not the US. Secularism might be what's great about the US, but since when is it what's great about Germany? or France, Great Britain or Saudi Arabia, for that matter.
If what's "great" about every country is always the same thing, then what makes one country distinct from the next? And if every country ends up like the US, well what's so interesting about that?

We don't qualify our constitutional protection of freedom of religion by what is or is not allowed in Saudi Arabia or any other country for that matter. Actually, I would say that none of the western states should qualify their liberties by what is allowed or not allowed in Saudi Arabia.

(shrug) They believe that valuing differences between people groups = racism. If you believe that, then you're going to try to erase those differences and make everyone the same. And if you're a particularly nasty, sarcastic type, you'll mock people who think those differences are great and worth keeping around.
What I can't figure out is how they write a song like "Be Cool Speak Deutsch" only a few years after writing what amounts to "German = Nazi" aka, Das ist Deutschland)...
