Btw; this has been said before and idk if its been said on this video post, but anyone who says John Mayer's tone is shit, or weak, or "can't compete with Clapton's," or anything to that effect is crazy. His signature sound is very strong and stands out now just as much as any other player out there today. He's blown up into an excellent player and deserves respect as opposed to the ridicule that a lot of "YouTubers" dish out to him. JM FTW.

I wouldn't say it's a crappy guitarist, because I don't know him. I just can say i don"t like his sound, on this song. But I would be happy to discover "one of the best guitar player in the world" if you were nice enough to tell me what to look for !!

Clapton is still the god of tasty blues, Robert Randolph definitely an under-rated major deity (check out is own band for blistering hard-blues-funk) . Mayer's good but has had enough said about him for now. As for Ms. Crowe - just a hanger-on in my opinion who would have done really well in top 40 clubs. Her rendition of Crossroads here is a flat out imitation of Bonnie Raitt, down to the tonality, phrasing and generic "gruffness". She has no real chops of her own. I sure missed that bandwagon.

Eric is probably the most influential guitar player ever. When he hit the scene he was able to reinterpret the three kings (especially Freddie) and craft a phrasing that is all his own. He did that all before he was 25. Look Mayer said it the best "When you listen to clapton you go is that clapton or someone playing like clapton." Mayer may be technically better but there wouldn't be a mayer without clapton. And that's a fact.

I would agree. Tehcnicality comes from players like steve vai or EJ, but when it comes to feel, it comes back around the clapton, BB, mayer, those artists. Blues artists, really. Or, rather, guitarists.

Because Doyle is Doyle. Listen to some Jellycream and you'll understand. JM's got good tunes. DB2 is a bajillion times better at singing and completely original. JM's a great guitar player, but he's not as unique in his playing. Plus he's a dick.
