Danish, swedish and norwegian are close to english. We are all parts of Scandinavia in a way. Sweden is probably the country closest to the UK of the Scandinavian countries historically. One example that can prove this is our way to deal with numbers. Fyrtio fyra is fourty four and not four and fourty as in danish and norwegian (and german).
@dogofman No offense there, presumably all American Mr. Racist, but those of us who understand Danish (not that I'm Danish; I'm a Swedish speaking person from Finland who has taken a few minutes to learn English as well) are well enough off to not whine because we don't understand.
He didn't say much of importance - just an unnecessarily outdrawn introduction. You're just as well off hopefully at least understanding the frog like accent she wears upon your o holy English...well, American.
I'm sorry. I think I just tried to be facetious instead.
I heard of some scientific report that showed that danish kids learn to speak a bit later than other kids. And the explanation was that danish has evolved very rapidly over latest century or so. And the evolution have made it ever harder to distinguish different spoken word sounds. The kids don't learn the language as eary because it's simply harder to hear the difference between different words.
I wonder how long it takes for the Chinese to learn their language.
@Zarkx2000 Why is this guy getting so many thumbs up? He is wrong. The presentation is not from a west-Swedish man at all. He is danish. The channel is danish too. You see the "DR 2" in the top right corner? Stands for "Danmarks Radio 2" - Denmarks Radio 2. OWNED
@MsMarc1234 It's a joke, which you obviously did not understand ;-) I'm from the south of Sweden and have watched and listened to Danish TV and Radio all my life so there is no need for you to point out obvious things :-)

Yeah, Summer is coming soon. Thanks for posting this lovely song! Check out my blog for some Spring songs. I will post them in a few days. Please look for the URL in my profile.
His name was Poul Ricard and he was 50 years of one of Denmark's most feterede actors both in film and theater and television. He is unfortunately dead now. Poul Ricard joke about Monica to come from eastern Denmark is linked to the entire south Sweden through 600 years was under the Danish monarchy. But Monica did not come from here, she came from a small town situated in Hagfors region Värmland ... one of Sweden's most beautiful area!
sorry ... sorry, you're right! and I actually knew him personally through my grand- father Victor Montell who play with Poul Reichhardt in several movies!
Easy Listening as it was meant to be played. Her voice and the piano compliment each other well. I hear hints of Billie Holiday but maybe that's just me. This really is good stuff.
If you mean more than just that Waltz For Debby clip, yes- they made a whole album together, "Waltz For Debby"...they did Some Other Time and It Could Happen To You on that album, among a bunch of others. You can find it on Amazon.
There was an entire album released of Bill and Monica together...check out Amazon...or if you want to email me, I'll make a copy of it and send to you......
Me, neither. Her appearance wasn't relevant to my enjoyment of her musicianship and voice, but now that I've seen a few clips I see how charming she was - and gorgeous as well.
bruno9027: He is just delivering some small talk, they are probably re-arranging the stage behind the curtains. Since the clip is recorded in Denmark he says that "Monica Zetterlund comes from the east of Denmark. Someone call it Sweden." Then he is saying that Monica Zetterlund is beautiful and talented and that Bill Evans and his band have come all the way from the US to play with her.
Watching the great Bill Evans reminds me of the month I spent in Copenhagen during dead of winter.I had nothing to do except listen to a stack of Evans CD's,make a once-a-day trip to Christiania, and sit in my apartment window and watch the snow and drink coffee.Listening to Bill Evans can have a real mellowing effect on you.
So sweet singing and gorgeous accompaniment too.
