@smudgynose...but Toby Stephens always place the same type of characters, eg...upper class smarmy types (which he seems to excell at). Whereas, and correct me if I'm wrong here, Matthew Macfadyen has a very diverse backlog of characters he has played (look at his scouse squaddie in Warriors) He was utterly compelling and completely different in The Way We Live Now, Ashes to Ashes and the recent Criminal Justice) I seriously doubt he is being, as you state, out-acted by anyone.
@SuperSoulSeeker...well I cannot possibly comment on his character in Tenent of Wildfell Hall as I've yet to see that but from the numerous other things I've seen him in I've always found his characters to be very similar....hoorah henrys (which he does do rather well) Don't get me wrong, i don't dislike Mr Stephens....I just don't rate him highly as an actor thats all.
Good movie. You should check it out. His acting is about the same. Rupert Graves is in that movie too. He's really talented and versatile. That was the first movie I saw him in as well.

hi, can anybody tell me how much screen time toby actually has in this? because he's the only reason I'd like to get it and it would suck if it turned out he only had a couple of minutes or something. so is it worth buying if you're really just interested in toby-time?
Well,Toby's not what you'd call a main character in this movie BUT since i see you're a Toby fan :) i have to say that though he has not so much on screen time it's all brilliantly performed! His character is so passionate,so moving as you can see from this clip. I'd never forget the scene when he's crying in the bathroom! And also I have to saythat the movie is very good even if we forget that Toby's in it! The cast - they're all amazing and then again the plot is incredible too!
Thank you very much for your reply! I already got the DVD, haven't gotten around to watching it yet. I'm a bit nervous. After Jane Eyre I'm not sure it can really live up to my expectations. I'm glad you said it's good even apart from Toby. Hopefully I'll get to see it soon!
Matthew MacFadyen has an incredibly deep voice like an opera singer. It might be good for theatre but not for movies. (Don't flame me. ;)) I like Toby's voice more.
Toby is just a huge spunk. He's gorgeous full stop but isn't he even more adorable when he's looking angry? I just want to eat him up. Help me I can't stop watching him. Thanku for these yummy videos.
*boom* my head just exploded at seeing darcy and rochester onscreen together. topy and matthew are great but i just see darcy and rochester. darchester? *phwoar*
OMG! It's Mr. Darcy and Mr. Rochester. Toby was recently in Jane Eyre as Mr. Rochester and that other guy (sorry dont know his name) played Mr. Darcy in "Pride and Prejudice" the recent one with Keira Knightly. This is pretty cool.
Toby's voice! ohhh

It's fantastic! Two gorgeous, brilliant actors in the same scene! Shame about Toby's hair though... And Matthew looks better with his hair in P&P.
WildQueenie 3 years ago 6
That is SO true about the hair...why can't men dress like they're in period dramas all the time? Or at least a little bit~ lol
