I work at the temple. I was asleep when the fire happened and the next morning I went out to have a look. I cried when I saw the smoking ruins. The rabbi held a special service at the UU church nearby. Many temple members came. Everyone was in tears.
We are planning to rebuild and in the meantime we're renting office space. The UU Church is letting the rabbi have services there. there. We've received over 2,500 donation checks. What can I say - you can't go back, you can only go forward.
i went there next morening and it was still on fire. Becuase of how cold it was all the water they were pouring on the fire froze and everything was covered in ice.
Every one i live freaking 5 blocks away from where the fire was happening.......1 person died in that church! amd i think a firefighter got hurt! this could of hurt over 20 people that is no laughing matter
Well if you notice, we had 2 guys watching it, it was a known hazard, and we took precautions due to being in close proximity to it due to poor water pressure.....
The more I watch these vids, the more I have doubts about the training of these ff's. Why would U put anyone in the collapse zone at a fire like this? There was no longer a life safety issue... Except for the people in the collapse zone.
What were the 2 guys watching it there to do, take pictures of it falling? Please don't tell me they were there to let others know when it was falling? Waste of resources....
if you guys weren't there how would you know whether those ff's needed to be there or not? Sometimes due to proximity it is not possible to maintain a collapse zone of the ideal size, while trying to protect an exposure, as you should know. The chimney collapsed well inside where the hose line was being run from (if you watch it carefully.) Put your cape and superman suit away, and come join the real world.
Oh and just a followup to the comment why you might put ff's in this situation- to the left of the video frame is a library that extends down to the collapse zone of the temple building, the left of the 2 buildings burning in this video. The hose crew(and others within the "collapse zone"(just out of frame) successfully protected the library exposure that backs up to the temple that was destroyed.
my dad was at this fire he was called out on 3rd alarm

It was weird. That fire and then my sister's building in South Boston burned down on New Year's Eve. It was a season of fires.

Way to maintain the collapse zone of 1 1/2 times the height of the chimney
