This guy is the music worlds best kept secret!! Awesome in the studio and then some more when live. Been fortunate enough to see him 4 times in the last 12 months, just wish he had another tour booked now.
Remember the first time i saw this or even heard of the guy with a bottle of Bacardi Spiced rum and my Best Frien and Mentor the late Billy Rivers RIP my friend Love and miss you Bro
Has anyone else ever noticed how much the drummer looks like Billy Connolly? Just a thought:) Ok he's deep undercover from hes day job but even so....
To be perfectly honest, I always felt that singers who sing in their 'local' accent - Cockney, Midlands, Scottish*, Irish - were inherently poor singers who needed a gimmick to establish themselves. *Apart from The Proclaimers who have had a very successful career using their quirky, local accents.
I listened yesterday to a radio broadcast about 'Sid Barrett', and that scruffy, untalented (vocally) local style irritates me. Emperor's new clothes.
Sure Paul is Irish and proud if it too! and I was born in India and I'm Irish too - and ever so proud if it too! Y'see my Dad (of blessed memory) was born in Ireland in 1916 (so was my Mum) and I speak with a mid Atlantic accent. but Paul doesn't sing with an American accent - rather one can detect that the "American accent" was derived in part from the Irish.... Enough of this...just listen to the music :-)
what a cool-looking, and fantastic drummer. Sorry to hear about the passing of your uncle, the godofors. And Paul Brady, well, he is amazing. I've seen him a few times. On top of his musical talents he is great with the audience.
@Longbow1690 The Drummer is Liam Genockey, I have seen him play with 'Buick six' ; the Vicky Clayton Band, and the last time was last summer with ,Steeleye Span'.
thank you RatcatcherNo1. there are some dicks in this world, i never seem to stop meeting, hearing, working fuck ......i dont know how to explain what im thinking. no matter where you go Ratcatcher you will meet these fuckers. they haven't got a clue.
Musik102 you're being ridiculous. Of course there's a difference. Old Irish traditional songs by nature and structure of course give rise to annunciation that is no longer used today. Paul's real accent is basically what you hear here..you only have to listen to any of his interviews my friend. You certainly won't hear him speaking in the fashion he sings Arthur McBride...Sorry to disappoint you.
Please we're Irish, listen to what we're telling you. And its true..Ulster/US accents can b alike!
Oh dear. Brady has two distinct - and very different - voices. One ( obviously Irish) for his folky material and one ( obviously pseudo American) for his rock material. If you can't hear the difference, well...
Used to be an EXCELLENT older version of this with just Paul and his guitar on here, might have been on The Whistle Test, cant find it now!!! Anyone know bout this?
I'm a bit confused here. Is redbyrne04 crticising Paul Brady for singing in an American accent? If so, I agree with him! Had Paul sang his rock stuff in the same marvelous Irish accent that he used for the traditional stuff then he might have become the massive superstar that lots of people on this thread think that he should be. Big mistake Paul!
With all these qualifications you have, its obvious you did'nt listen too much in the Geography class !!.... or English for that matter. Its just that Paul was born, raised and 100% from Strabane in Ireland. That means that he is Irish. Maybe your IT lesson didnt go too well either ?? If it had you could have gone online and did some research before you came online throwing your weight about something your fantastic qualifications and arrogance obviously did'nt cover. !!
I've never heard Paul Brady's music before. I'll need to check him out. I have seen Liam Genockey and Kenny Craddock live when they played with Gerry Rafferty back in 1993. Both great session players.
The only "musicians" that never make an error are drum machines and sequencers, and the music they make is sterile and lifeless. Here's to good old sloppy beautiful human touch.
WHEN SOMEONE STATES THAT THERE IS AN ERROR IN A MUSICAL PERFORMANCE, they don't understand music.
They should study the history of performance for a start. Every note played within the Western Tonal System, Mozart up to crappy old Tin Pan Alley, is an error. Errors make music.
Paul Brady is a brilliant underrated songwriter. The band seems like ad hoc, put together for the show. These guys are totally into what they're doing and Kenny is just brilliant. It's not an error - that's playing live.
So Kenny fluffs a chord.. a self taught multi instrumentalist who became musical director for Van Morrison and could have played all the instruments on this stage except the drums better than the other guys.the best musician I ever had the privelege to play with - people who knew him will never forget him - a fantastic guy and a great friend. Kenny was really one of the very best. TbL
I had a band together with Kenny and Liam - seen playing here - also a duo with kenny and a successful career as studio singer. After 29 years in the music business no-one has had a problem with my accent until you came along - so fuck off!

i represent all the people who think that singing in an american accent when you are a english is awful.i left school and college with a qualification you could only dream of getting you waster plus i play guitar a lot better than you and who has ever heard of you anyhow
As I said, I`ve stood often enough on stage with 2 of the musicians playing obove and your views are not only disrespectful of me - but in that case to them too. I still see Liam when I fly back - usually for Beatles Day where musicians play the whole day for a cancer charity - the sort of things you do as a proffessional musician.. when you are not being attacked on You Tube by White Trash.

listen i asked you a simple question and you got offended and my criticisms of you are exclusively for you and that is that so dont be draggin anyone else into.Fair play to anyone doing their bit for charity but you are rambling......ps how come paul brady never asked you to do any session work???is it because your not good enough or is it because your too busy taking shit from white trash on you tube or trying to convince everyone on here that you are a pro???
I`m not trying to convince anybody of anything pal.. and I don`t know Paul Brady personally. My comment here was about Kenny - You decided to got to my page and slagg me off - and convince anyone else who reads this shit that you are actually 15 years old - and got no friends..just get a life mate!
Paul Brady is from a the north part of Ireland, the local accent is similar to an "American accent." Also, some when some people sing their "accent" seems to change.
probaly the best performance i,ve heard of this classic.. seriously underated artist.. and one hell of a line up behind him, liam has to be one of the tighest drummers i,ve seen.. just dont write em like this anymore.. worse luck!!

Yeah I'm a fan of his too!, in fact the whole Irish music scene is a lot purer somehow than the one in the Uk. Perhaps it's just the variety and depth over there, here's to ya!
A masterful performance from Paul here....vocally the best performance I've heard of this song...remember seeing this on Jools Holland when it first came out and was blown away by it...great to see it again...and the band really nailed it...Dire Straits bassist too...some great keyboard flourishes from Kenny Craddock ...his legacy lives on in the music.
