  • Fantastic song!!

  • Theres a bit of the Bob Segers to this song not the voice but the music. Great track!!!

  • Paul is very very special... and Kenny Craddock rocke on this track....

  • Remember the first time i saw this or even heard of the guy with a bottle of Bacardi Spiced rum and my Best Frien and Mentor the late Billy Rivers RIP my friend Love and miss you Bro

  • Has anyone else ever noticed how much the drummer looks like Billy Connolly? Just a thought:) Ok he's deep undercover from hes day job but even so....

  • Is that a Lowden he's playing ??

  • To be perfectly honest, I always felt that singers who sing in their 'local' accent - Cockney, Midlands, Scottish*, Irish - were inherently poor singers who needed a gimmick to establish themselves. *Apart from The Proclaimers who have had a very successful career using their quirky, local accents.

I listened yesterday to a radio broadcast about 'Sid Barrett', and that scruffy, untalented (vocally) local style irritates me. Emperor's new clothes.

    Right, fire-away - I'm ready.

  • @K3KCT It is the edge of his sour northern accent that gives the song extra bite and spice

  • Great performance and good to see John Illsley of Dire Straits on bass!

  • Hey there RatchatcherNo1,

Sure Paul is Irish and proud if it too! and I was born in India and I'm Irish too - and ever so proud if it too! Y'see my Dad (of blessed memory) was born in Ireland in 1916 (so was my Mum) and I speak with a mid Atlantic accent. but Paul doesn't sing with an American accent - rather one can detect that the "American accent" was derived in part from the Irish.... Enough of this...just listen to the music :-)

  • What an album that was .. Hard Station .. never gets old.

  • what a cool-looking, and fantastic drummer. Sorry to hear about the passing of your uncle, the godofors. And Paul Brady, well, he is amazing. I've seen him a few times. On top of his musical talents he is great with the audience.

  • Can some one please tell me who this Drummer is thanks

  • @Longbow1690 The Drummer is Liam Genockey, I have seen him play with 'Buick six' ; the Vicky Clayton Band, and the last time was last summer with ,Steeleye Span'.

  • kenny craddock

    god rest him!

  • I love this song, the last verse uplifts me. 'We'll find some other crazy dream tomorrow' that says it all!

  • indeed guys.. ya never need bring an arsehole to youtube..theres always one there already!! carry on paul.. terrific talent!!

  • I saw Paul and his band the other week.

Fantastic live performers. If you can go and see them.

    Great night.

  • thank you RatcatcherNo1. there are some dicks in this world, i never seem to stop meeting, hearing, working fuck ......i dont know how to explain what im thinking. no matter where you go Ratcatcher you will meet these fuckers. they haven't got a clue.

  • half of the crowd dont deserve to be there they are not even enjoying themselves what a bunch of cunts great tune btw

  • Great Singer..The organist Kenny Craddock was something special watched him with The Elcort and Ginger Baker

  • Musik102 you're being ridiculous. Of course there's a difference. Old Irish traditional songs by nature and structure of course give rise to annunciation that is no longer used today. Paul's real accent is basically what you hear here..you only have to listen to any of his interviews my friend. You certainly won't hear him speaking in the fashion he sings Arthur McBride...Sorry to disappoint you.

Please we're Irish, listen to what we're telling you. And its true..Ulster/US accents can b alike!

  • Oh dear. Brady has two distinct - and very different - voices. One ( obviously Irish) for his folky material and one ( obviously pseudo American) for his rock material. If you can't hear the difference, well...

  • Singing 'crazy dreams' one can CLEARLY hear Paul Brady's Ulster accent!!!!

  • Paul is from the north west of Ireland. All over Ireland there are different accents. Ever hear a west Cork man speak??

  • Used to be an EXCELLENT older version of this with just Paul and his guitar on here, might have been on The Whistle Test, cant find it now!!! Anyone know bout this?

  • Comment removed

  • where do you double pea brains think an American accent came from?

  • He's not using a US accent pea brains

  • I'm a bit confused here. Is redbyrne04 crticising Paul Brady for singing in an American accent? If so, I agree with him! Had Paul sang his rock stuff in the same marvelous Irish accent that he used for the traditional stuff then he might have become the massive superstar that lots of people on this thread think that he should be. Big mistake Paul!

  • Yu're right musikman...you are a bit confused!! ;)

  • Hey There redbyrne04.

With all these qualifications you have, its obvious you did'nt listen too much in the Geography class !!.... or English for that matter. Its just that Paul was born, raised and 100% from Strabane in Ireland. That means that he is Irish. Maybe your IT lesson didnt go too well either ?? If it had you could have gone online and did some research before you came online throwing your weight about something your fantastic qualifications and arrogance obviously did'nt cover. !!

  • I love this song Paul and his brand rock !!

  • The drummer??

    Costume??

    Headgear??

  • it's a shame he was always "almost a superstar"

  • I've never heard Paul Brady's music before. I'll need to check him out. I have seen Liam Genockey and Kenny Craddock live when they played with Gerry Rafferty back in 1993. Both great session players.

  • The only "musicians" that never make an error are drum machines and sequencers, and the music they make is sterile and lifeless. Here's to good old sloppy beautiful human touch.

  • WHEN SOMEONE STATES THAT THERE IS AN ERROR IN A MUSICAL PERFORMANCE, they don't understand music.

They should study the history of performance for a start. Every note played within the Western Tonal System, Mozart up to crappy old Tin Pan Alley, is an error. Errors make music.

    Da Daaaaagghhhh!

  • here here

  • Paul Brady is a brilliant underrated songwriter. The band seems like ad hoc, put together for the show. These guys are totally into what they're doing and Kenny is just brilliant. It's not an error - that's playing live.

  • absolutly brilliant.. one of my all time brady favourites.. thats rite frank.....

  • notice at 3.33 the keyboardist muddles his chords and paul gives him a look!

    oul brady's a living legend!

  • So Kenny fluffs a chord.. a self taught multi instrumentalist who became musical director for Van Morrison and could have played all the instruments on this stage except the drums better than the other guys.the best musician I ever had the privelege to play with - people who knew him will never forget him - a fantastic guy and a great friend. Kenny was really one of the very best. TbL

  • checked your page out.......not bad but i have to ask if you are german why are you singing in an american accent sounds stupid

  • If you could read you wouldn´`t need to ask you daft cunt..

  • I had a band together with Kenny and Liam - seen playing here - also a duo with kenny and a successful career as studio singer. After 29 years in the music business no-one has had a problem with my accent until you came along - so fuck off!

  • I hope you are not consiered to be representative of the majority of the Irish listening audience and refer you to the answer I gave earlierAnd and I wonder, have you actually left school yet?

  • As I said, I`ve stood often enough on stage with 2 of the musicians playing obove and your views are not only disrespectful of me - but in that case to them too. I still see Liam when I fly back - usually for Beatles Day where musicians play the whole day for a cancer charity - the sort of things you do as a proffessional musician.. when you are not being attacked on You Tube by White Trash.

  • I`m not trying to convince anybody of anything pal.. and I don`t know Paul Brady personally. My comment here was about Kenny - You decided to got to my page and slagg me off - and convince anyone else who reads this shit that you are actually 15 years old - and got no friends..just get a life mate!

  • To be fair to Redbyrne04...

Paul Brady is from a the north part of Ireland, the local accent is similar to an "American accent." Also, some when some people sing their "accent" seems to change.

  • @redbyrne04 idiot

  • @eoinyo Well Said Eoin PB is a Genius Irish feckin legend

  • great guitar arrangement

    great musicianship

  • He's something else, one of the very best singer/songwriters.

  • everything fits together in the song, beautiful. thanks

does someone know where to get a cd from this similar performance?

  • A peerless vocal here by the great man and a superb performance by the band.

And yet... on a number of occasions I've seen Paul perform this song solo with no backing other than his own guitar and it is equally satisfying.

He is one of the best around, no doubt about it.

  • Genockey is one of the best drummers. Agree thta Paul Brady is underated.

  • Paul Brady is amazing. So underated i agree. My dad got me into him.. Love his music....

We need more people like this man in music...

  • probaly the best performance i,ve heard of this classic.. seriously underated artist.. and one hell of a line up behind him, liam has to be one of the tighest drummers i,ve seen.. just dont write em like this anymore.. worse luck!!

  • Im always astounded at peoples' reaction to Brady, how many people out there live in caves?, how can you be fans of music and have not heard Brady, or martyn or of Genockey,or Thompson come on wake up, evolve, tell the world and smile its all good..

  • what about christy dignam?

  • Yeah I'm a fan of his too!, in fact the whole Irish music scene is a lot purer somehow than the one in the Uk. Perhaps it's just the variety and depth over there, here's to ya!

  • Christy is an absolute legend, totally underrated though for some reason!!

  • Drummer 100

    Keyboards 100

    Bass 100

    Paul 5000

  • Liam Genockey has to be the master,I have worked with some good people but the man is simply the best.

  • wow!! the sound of the drummer is amazing. who is he?

  • That is Liam Genockey he not only is the best drummer i have ever heard he is also a lovely man he and his kit are one. andy

  • worked? who are you and how come you worked with him?

  • Paul Brady is the greatest and this number starts my day.......love it....love it..... lo

  • Wht isnt Paul Brady a household name ? I know he is big......but he should be BIG!!

The guy is a songwrting genius.......great musician and performer.

    Great performance.

  • AHHH MATE!

    Liam Genockey

amazing! he plays with my uncle vince martyn

  • awesome

  • liam genockey is an amazing drummer!! first time iv seen him not playing with steeleye, i know wat hes capable of and this just pushes it up a level

  • Check out his amazing work with Richard Thompson. The guy KILLS.

  • Brady doesn't get credit for his guitar arrangements - great backing by everyone - only pros at work here.

  • A superb performance of one of the all time great classic songs.

  • They all seem to be enjoying this tremendously - Kenny R.I.P.

  • my late fathers fav song.biill to hear it !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It was always a great song anyway, but this version is a stunner. What a singer, eh?

  • Is that a Lowden guitar he's playing can anyone tell me?

  • Yes, Paul plays Lowden guitars.

  • great song

  • amazing... great song done good ...God bless you Kenny and Paul

  • A masterful performance from Paul here....vocally the best performance I've heard of this song...remember seeing this on Jools Holland when it first came out and was blown away by it...great to see it again...and the band really nailed it...Dire Straits bassist too...some great keyboard flourishes from Kenny Craddock ...his legacy lives on in the music.

  • thats my late uncle kenny craddock on keyboard. sadly missed by all his family in gateshead, tyne & wear x

  • @thegodofrs god he was young, hope u dont mind me asking, but what happened to him?

  • @thegodofrs - whos the drummer then?
