I can't believe I actually listened to all this - but i'm glad I did as you raised some interesting things about Vista deleting files, I didn't know about that. Glad i'm sticking to XP
Vista is 99 to 1 the worst operating system ever, its windows Me 2000 all over again, its easier to run a program on a linux with wine emulators than it is on vista, Vista lack compatibility, security and originality, its just substandard version of XP with new toolbars and windows, Vista is a substandard copy of Tiger, ie Spotlight, sidebar, and transparent menus. (which tiger had long before vista came to be) Vista is the worst line of code since Me.
Vista allow only some programs... its the programs who're not compatible with Vista, we must wait like 1 year 1/2. And the updates, i think XP have more...
And how exactly does that make one guilty? You have some faulty logic. Using something doesn't automatically mean you have to like it. A lot of software and majority of games is only available for Windows. Linux is for nerds and geeks that spend more time setting it up than using it. Apple is for computer illiterate people and Steve Jobs cultists. Vista sucks and its price is a rip off. Stick to XP for now, if you already have it.
From Slashdot..."Are you using Windows Vista? Then you might as well know that the licensed operating system installed on your machine is harvesting a healthy volume of information for Microsoft. In this context, a program such as the Windows Genuine Advantage is the last of your concerns. In fact, in excess of 20 Windows Vista features and services are hard at work collecting and transmitting your personal data to the Redmond company."

Well what is there to love? EULA says you can't own Vista if you buy it. Most of what you read is true. Linux Rocks. I use it. It's good enough for anyone.
Windows Vista dose not check your media files to see if there not legal there would be no way to tell 70% of my music is downloaded and not pay for and it runs fine on my system only people basing Vista are the people who have shit hardware or just dont like how it works
i got intel dual due core, 2 GB of ram, 256 MB graphic card, 250 GB hard drive, i am a programmer, and i know all about vista, and ffs even MS Visual Studio 2005 isn't compitable with vista, i am sticking to XP and vista does suck
im a Unix/Linux fan would never get a Mac (maybe just to piss around on) XP fully put me of windows but i realy like Vista it just works unless u have a Nvidia graphics card (Nvidia drivers blow)
Hi, Zetan4 ^.^ Yeah...let me tell you how shit Vista really is. Well in all the bugs in as it is new and everything internet sucks balls on Vista, popups are sometime not always blocked, it keeps asking for an update on the computer and to shut down and restart my computer even if I do it or not it keeps coming up with that ever you know....like 1 hour or so.
I know this because I have this computer I am on now I am on everyday that has Vista. VISTA SUCKS!
on another note. Linux is not being run on this system because i am still looking for the sweet spot in Linux media centers. whether it be open source or a commercial product. I'm not cheap. I'm willing to pay for quality software. and right now windows media center has me in its crutches for our entertainment.
Mandriva is so awesome. i can hardly belive what i finaly have with the mcn live. for the first time i have a completley live os on usb hdd with persistent state. but thats not all. combining it with virtual box allows me to run my very first live windows system completly intact on any system i choose with that boot capability with all programs and settings the way i like it. more and more. linux is becoming my choice.

Oh yeah, if it comes with your pc, you've paid £200 - $400 on an operating system that sucks, especially if you have a gaming machine. Being in teche for 3 years, with vista, I should imagine it will take a year for all your games to be patched to be compatible with vista, and your video drivers, 7 months.

Linux? Yeah I know what Linux is, but I don't use it. What about Mac OS X? Mac OS X is better than any other OS in the world! I too, buy all of my music store bought on cds, and my WIndows XP computer messes up all the time, and deletes files for no reason at all!

Note, BTW, I've heard 64-bit Vista was completely re-written, but 32-bit was just XP with a new facade and some reconfiguration.. So if you do get Vista, it's probably best to go for the one that uses 64-bit processors.. But true of any version of Vista, any technology that patches DLL's in the OS, which includes virus killers and DVD-rippers, and such.. Are not supported.. I hope Vista is the last OS Microsoft tries to push on people.. I'm moving to Ubuntu..
This is what Windows Vista was like for me.. Oooo, wow graphics boot.. Login.. Oh this looks like those widget thingys Yahoo was offering users on XP, but it's preinstalled on windows.. Cool.. Where is this 3D desktop stuff.. Oh crap this isn't professional, the 350 dollar one with that stuff.. Well I'll install my environment, cygwin, filezilla, okay I need to get up and install my filezilla config files.. What, I can't do that, and you #$%#!.. 3 days later, Ubuntu..
Sony's rootkit (that came on their music CD's last year) was created because Sony saw that CD's were not as secure as the DRM that came with their online sound files. So they had one of those mad executive wet dreams, and said "why can't we do this with our CD's".. Thus the Sony Rootkit..
THIS IS THE FIRST LINUX I'VE INSTALLED EVER.. I've used Knoppix, and have had Linux installed for me.. But this Ubuntu installed the boot loader, it updated my hardware drivers, it got updates for packages that came installed.. It offered me three package managers, tons of documentation.. I admit it took me days to do things like configure it for Dual-head and Beryl, but the answer it's all in the Ubuntu Support Forums.
Not everyone will want to move to Ubuntu, just the poor huddled masses and the software developers who don't want to pay hundreds of dollars for another Microsoft IDE. But given that it is self mending, and isn't as annoying as Windows, if you swapped your mother or fathers Windows out for Ubuntu, there is a small chance they won't notice for months.. But I think it is a first step toward conversion.. Yes this is it, the big thing all us Microsoft haters have been waiting for..
And even though I have a computer science degree, I don't really know enough about linux to manage it.. I know enough about Windows to remove software packages that fail to deinstall by removing keys from Windows registry.. I even have TCPView.exe and PRocExp.exe on Windows to kill bloatware I can't deinstall, and kill backdoors. I have to do this everytime I boot windows.. So I'm using Ubuntu now.
I enjoyed your video. I think just like the internet an operating system should be "neutral". Bill has really gone off the deep end with this "operating system". "Big Brother" on your OS how wonderful! It wouldn't sadden me the least to see a backlash bankrupt him and MS.
I'm using, now as we speak, Ubuntu.. I've got a Dell Dimension 9150, Pentium D, NVidia 6800XT (with drivers for Unbuntu), with a dual head display, with the capability of running Beryl in dual-head (if I want more visual distractions)..
Most non-tech Windows users will not install anything.. They know how to surf the web, but they have had only bad experiences when installing software on windows, so they are afraid to do anything. Ubuntu, is a bit better, installing stuff is a lot easier than Windows and it has all the major stuff that 90% of Windows users would want to do anyhow.. Like Word processing, Spreadsheets, etc.. Beryl is just an excuse to piss on Windows Vista, lets face it..
Bill Gates completely contradicted himself in a statement he made several years ago. I cant remember exactly but it was along the lines of..."No one will ever need more than (certain amount of RAM)..." Vista requires alot more than the amount Bill said, so hes basically saying no one will ever need Vista.
That's a really, really old statement. I think it was in the 80's. Back then, it was hard to predict the growth of the industry. The amount of RAM he said is less than Windows 95 required, so the contradiction happened a -long- time ago. It's old news.
Not from what I've heard. If you could, there'd be no point to it. Everyone who wanted to pirate something would just turn it off. It's there to prevent piracy, so if it thinks you're pirating something, it's not going to let you turn it off.
After using Windows since 1992, Vista gives me more and more compelling reasons to keep using Ubuntu Linux. Sure Linux is a little more involved at times but at least it gives you freedom - something that Microsoft lost sight of recently.
I showed my brother your videos and he was impressed by your ability to drive and film! I don't know how you can do it but you are amazing. I don't know your secret and unfortunatly niether does my brother. He tried to make a video like yours and I am sad to say that we no longer have a car..... or a brother. :( :( :9 Please keep safe when you film!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you want to just type papers go online and do basic stuff get a Mac. Most of the major programs people use like MS Office or Photoshop are on Mac. If you play games then get a PC with windows XP on it. Not Vista games run slower on it, go look at the benchmarks. And for games Microsoft has Direct3D witch is way better for making games I think. OpenGL is better for cross platform apps, but not with Vista, I herd they stopped support for openGL. So anything openGL runs like shit.
Living, working, and even playing in the Windows environment is like being a marathon runner with your shoelaces constantly coming undone. It's not a question of "if" you're going to come slamming face down on the track, it's a matter of "when." And when you do crash--when you're spitting out your own teeth--there'll always be a Mac user, gliding right on by you, maybe even spraying a little dirt in your face.
But the Linux penguin will be far, far ahead of the mac guy, using the jetpack that was designed and produced for him, completely free, and he can mod the pack as much as he wants, due to the schematics made publicly available - open source.
Until he wants to use part of the track that wasn't designed for him, then he has to run an emulator or something of that sort. I understand how wonderful the freedom of modding is, and I totally support Linux, it just doesn't suit my needs.
- done slightly better than Windows. none of my applications work. Whats the point? I'd have to go and BUY the mac version.. the same software AGAIN! with Linux, there are many free and open source alternatives such as OpenOffice. And there are many games that run on Linux such as americas army and all the ID games like quake 4 and doom3... do i have to buy them again for my Mac? no, just download it and put in m serial.. done!
Many games... but not all. Every single game that will run on a computer will run on Windows. No emulator, no nothing. I like that freedom. It's likely in the future that I'll have some of my computers run Linux, but I am pretty sure I will always have at least one running Windows.
Certainly, a fully open architecture like unix is capable of fostering the most freedom. The problem is applications. There's just so many good software for Macs and Windoz (eg games, as you mentioned). So what do you do? I bought an Intel Mac and can now run all OS X and Windoz apps natively. So as far as I see it, the new Intel Mac platform running off of BSD provides the most overall freedom (currently). It will be nice though when Linux can boot smoothly on a Mac.
Good question. If you use Apple's Bootcamp, then before any OS loads, your Mac asks you which OS you want. Right now, just Windoz or OS X. (Hopefully this will include Linux down the road). Then when you make your choice your Mac will load *either OS completely natively, ie without virtualization. There's also some apps on the market that let you run Windows "within" OS X, but those all use various forms of virualiozation, which make things like playing FPS games suck.
Hm.. interesting. Well, I haven't tried using Windoz, so I don't know if I would have the same gripes with it as I would OS X, but that sounds like it's worth trying out.
let say me this... WINDOWS IS A STANDARD OS eat it!! windows is also userfriendly so what is wrong with it? why take linux/mac if the most software works on windows... and by the way mac is more a workstation not gaming OS and linux? if i have a great server i will think of using linux, and microsoft uses your money to help other people, what does mac? what i want to say is that windows is good and thats the point.
Windows is good for many of the reasons you mentioned. That's the reason I use it now. Did you watch my video? My reasons for disliking Vista have nothing to do with any of the reasons you mentioned.
Currently, yes. If you get Vista, however, and it deletes a bunch of files that it thinks are pirated (which it may do, even if they aren't) you probably won't be as happy with it.
Yup. Mac, Unix, Linux... I've used plenty. I can't stand Macs, they don't give you enough freedom. I do like Unix/Linux, but unfortunately, most major software companies still don't write code for them. I want to be able to game on my computer, and Windows is still best for that.
Because it's an eeeeeeevil lamp. XD Yeah, not the best example... it's tough comparing physical and digital goods. If something is stolen in the physical world, it must be returned to it's owner. Something stolen in the digital world can simply be deleted and have the same effect.
Did you know that in the UK you can be fined for using a mobile phone whilst driving? I think using a webcam would be just as distracting and just as financially damaging.
It's the same way in some states of the US. However, I think it's silly... I'm extra-careful when using it, and I'm a very safe driver anyway. For me, it is no more risky than singing along to a song while I'm driving.
I've used Vista for ages now. It's been perfect for me. I think the people that run it down are full of shit.

Windows Vista isnt good.... But isnt bad either:
Bads:
-It doesnt allow some programs
-You need at least 1GB to make it run properly
-Too much crap (eg. Updates)
Goods:
-the virus protections are accurate
-Blocks viruses or anything that can ruin your comp

Linux runs Windows software better than Vista.
You can also install XP in parallel, and use Anything.
You don't need to know anything about linux to use it.

Boot it and use it for a week.
If you still want to use vista, then ok.

I even have TCPView.exe and PRocExp.exe on Windows to kill bloatware I can't deinstall, and kill backdoors. I have to do this everytime I boot windows.. So I'm using Ubuntu now.

0.o? and you have a computer science degree?
AndrewPasquale 4 years ago
Heh... I have a Comp Sci degree too, but have never successfully installed Linux.
Zetan4 4 years ago
no offense, I do not have a Comp Sci degree but I have installed Linux successfully numerous times on many systems. A child could install Linux.

I enjoyed your video. I think just like the internet an operating system should be "neutral". Bill has really gone off the deep end with this "operating system". "Big Brother" on your OS how wonderful! It wouldn't sadden me the least to see a backlash bankrupt him and MS.
ErichH68 4 years ago
I'm using, now as we speak, Ubuntu.. I've got a Dell Dimension 9150, Pentium D, NVidia 6800XT (with drivers for Unbuntu), with a dual head display, with the capability of running Beryl in dual-head (if I want more visual distractions)..
rofthorax 4 years ago
Most non-tech Windows users will not install anything.. They know how to surf the web, but they have had only bad experiences when installing software on windows, so they are afraid to do anything. Ubuntu, is a bit better, installing stuff is a lot easier than Windows and it has all the major stuff that 90% of Windows users would want to do anyhow.. Like Word processing, Spreadsheets, etc.. Beryl is just an excuse to piss on Windows Vista, lets face it..

Good video about vista, yeah linux is so so but isnt all that bad I'm teaching my mother linux just the basics.

I use vista with the ultimate edition and trust me the thing about piracy is a complete crock of shit.

jimmyphack 4 years ago
Bill Gates completely contradicted himself in a statement he made several years ago. I cant remember exactly but it was along the lines of..."No one will ever need more than (certain amount of RAM)..." Vista requires alot more than the amount Bill said, so hes basically saying no one will ever need Vista.
Ferreira018 4 years ago
That's a really, really old statement. I think it was in the 80's. Back then, it was hard to predict the growth of the industry. The amount of RAM he said is less than Windows 95 required, so the contradiction happened a -long- time ago. It's old news.

dude get a life my vista doesn't do that....
so you SUCK!
supershaun91 4 years ago
It hasn't done it yet. That doesn't mean it won't.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm afraid I must decline.

WHAT THE FUCK!?! WHAT ARE YOU GAY?!?!

Nope. That's why I declined.

couldnt you just turn off the deleter thing in the settings?
familyguyfan8 4 years ago
Not from what I've heard. If you could, there'd be no point to it. Everyone who wanted to pirate something would just turn it off. It's there to prevent piracy, so if it thinks you're pirating something, it's not going to let you turn it off.

I'm happy with the one I've got, thanks.

After using Windows since 1992, Vista gives me more and more compelling reasons to keep using Ubuntu Linux. Sure Linux is a little more involved at times but at least it gives you freedom - something that Microsoft lost sight of recently.
Jimbo2184 4 years ago
I showed my brother your videos and he was impressed by your ability to drive and film! I don't know how you can do it but you are amazing. I don't know your secret and unfortunatly niether does my brother. He tried to make a video like yours and I am sad to say that we no longer have a car..... or a brother. :( :( :9 Please keep safe when you film!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
aprilaprilaprilapril 4 years ago
You can't be serious... you wouldn't be talking about it so lightly if you lost your brother like that.
I am always very careful, it isn't that hard.

So anything openGL runs like shit.
zezba9000 4 years ago
That's a pretty good explanation of the situation now... so Vista can currently be avoided. Hopefully it stays that way...
Zetan4 4 years ago
I have heard WindowsXP as of 1/1/2008 will no longer offer WindowsUpdates. And no longer offer Support.
Use Winamp for your MP3 Files.
Disable security features and get a good firewall.
And like you said get a good router.
These are a few ways to run Windows Vista,
jasper153 4 years ago
Living, working, and even playing in the Windows environment is like being a marathon runner with your shoelaces constantly coming undone. It's not a question of "if" you're going to come slamming face down on the track, it's a matter of "when." And when you do crash--when you're spitting out your own teeth--there'll always be a Mac user, gliding right on by you, maybe even spraying a little dirt in your face.
keytoothed 4 years ago
Until he gets to a part of the track that his Mac doesn't think he should be on, and then he can't even try to enter it, shoelaces or no.
Zetan4 4 years ago
But the Linux penguin will be far, far ahead of the mac guy, using the jetpack that was designed and produced for him, completely free, and he can mod the pack as much as he wants, due to the schematics made publicly available - open source.
CCmachine 4 years ago
Until he wants to use part of the track that wasn't designed for him, then he has to run an emulator or something of that sort. I understand how wonderful the freedom of modding is, and I totally support Linux, it just doesn't suit my needs.
Zetan4 4 years ago
Mac? hah. the Macintosh is not some kind of answer to your Windows problems. Its just another ugly closed-source, proprietry and commercial system
CCmachine 4 years ago
- done slightly better than Windows. none of my applications work. Whats the point? I'd have to go and BUY the mac version.. the same software AGAIN! with Linux, there are many free and open source alternatives such as OpenOffice. And there are many games that run on Linux such as americas army and all the ID games like quake 4 and doom3... do i have to buy them again for my Mac? no, just download it and put in m serial.. done!
Be liberated - use Ubuntu Linux. ubuntu[dot]com
CCmachine 4 years ago
Many games... but not all. Every single game that will run on a computer will run on Windows. No emulator, no nothing. I like that freedom. It's likely in the future that I'll have some of my computers run Linux, but I am pretty sure I will always have at least one running Windows.
Zetan4 4 years ago
Certainly, a fully open architecture like unix is capable of fostering the most freedom. The problem is applications. There's just so many good software for Macs and Windoz (eg games, as you mentioned). So what do you do? I bought an Intel Mac and can now run all OS X and Windoz apps natively. So as far as I see it, the new Intel Mac platform running off of BSD provides the most overall freedom (currently). It will be nice though when Linux can boot smoothly on a Mac.
targetpro 4 years ago
I'm not sure I completely understand the details of this. What OS are you actually running?
Zetan4 4 years ago
Good question. If you use Apple's Bootcamp, then before any OS loads, your Mac asks you which OS you want. Right now, just Windoz or OS X. (Hopefully this will include Linux down the road). Then when you make your choice your Mac will load *either OS completely natively, ie without virtualization. There's also some apps on the market that let you run Windows "within" OS X, but those all use various forms of virualiozation, which make things like playing FPS games suck.
targetpro 4 years ago
Hm.. interesting. Well, I haven't tried using Windoz, so I don't know if I would have the same gripes with it as I would OS X, but that sounds like it's worth trying out.

youtube's 500 character limit is fucking retarded!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed about the character limit. :D
Zetan4 4 years ago
let say me this... WINDOWS IS A STANDARD OS eat it!! windows is also userfriendly so what is wrong with it? why take linux/mac if the most software works on windows... and by the way mac is more a workstation not gaming OS and linux? if i have a great server i will think of using linux, and microsoft uses your money to help other people, what does mac? what i want to say is that windows is good and thats the point.
hein345 4 years ago
Windows is good for many of the reasons you mentioned. That's the reason I use it now. Did you watch my video? My reasons for disliking Vista have nothing to do with any of the reasons you mentioned.
Zetan4 4 years ago
i didnt meant it rude against you, sorry if you thought it was that way. but windows is just the best OS to me and i want to let them know.
hein345 4 years ago
Currently, yes. If you get Vista, however, and it deletes a bunch of files that it thinks are pirated (which it may do, even if they aren't) you probably won't be as happy with it.
Zetan4 4 years ago
dude, windoz is the best OS to you?? have you used any other OSes??
targetpro 4 years ago
OSs*
gat6000 4 years ago
Yup. Mac, Unix, Linux... I've used plenty. I can't stand Macs, they don't give you enough freedom. I do like Unix/Linux, but unfortunately, most major software companies still don't write code for them. I want to be able to game on my computer, and Windows is still best for that.
Zetan4 4 years ago
Why would you shoot a stolen lamp?
I laughed at that.
But I can see your point.
BestxHitxMissed 4 years ago
Because it's an eeeeeeevil lamp. XD Yeah, not the best example... it's tough comparing physical and digital goods. If something is stolen in the physical world, it must be returned to it's owner. Something stolen in the digital world can simply be deleted and have the same effect.

"Did you know that in the UK you can be fined for using a mobile phone..."
You'd sound pretty intellectual were it not for the fact that the guy in the video is not even IN the UK.
eXPerienceyeah 4 years ago
Did you know that in the UK you can be fined for using a mobile phone whilst driving? I think using a webcam would be just as distracting and just as financially damaging.
Foebane72 4 years ago
It's the same way in some states of the US. However, I think it's silly... I'm extra-careful when using it, and I'm a very safe driver anyway. For me, it is no more risky than singing along to a song while I'm driving.
Zetan4 4 years ago
You really have no idea what you're talking about. Try ubuntu.

I have been meaning to look into that one. I'll give it a try.
