  • They've recently introduced this at the LCBO in Canada, but they've priced it at $39. Our dollar is about the same as the American dollar currently. Jack Daniels is between $27 and $29 a bottle, comparitively.

At $39, is this still worth purchasing?

  • Damn, you really smelled all that shit in the whiskey? lol, I thought you were just gonna keep goin on 'n on about the smells..."I think I smelled some cinnamon and eggs, a little salmon in there..."

  • any dickel fans know If there's a global kentuky bourbon that is like Dickel?

No usa shore ship to australia.

A bourbon with the buttery oily corn. But without any of that big oak and tannic challenge (ECraig 12, bookers, so on). What is this puppy winkle? would 15 be to oaky for me. maybe 10y. I love the chew in dickel + outstanding balance + works on my less challenging palate with dry and oak. Woodford reserve people indicated it will be to oaky for me.

  • @CliveGains80s Hmmm, tough question. Few that I'd say are like Dickel and available globally. Woodford honestly has some of that butterscotch and corny quality. From a mass availability standpoint it's a good place to start, but certainly it's not like Dickel. Let me ponder this for a moment.

  • @CliveGains80s Are you able to get BLack Maple Hill by chance? That is one that has an overly corny quality to it.

  • @CliveGains80s Woodford is actually pretty oily, where as bookers and basil, etc are more oaky/spicy. If you can actually find ANY of the van winkles, grab one, as long as their not at obscene prices. Dickel is a solid whiskey, there are many others than resemble its mild profile. Drink your bourbon (and Tennessee)!

  • Excellent whiskey! Vastly superior to JD in my opinion.

  • Finally got to try this, great stuff. This and Buffalo Trace will be my two near $20 whiskeys.

  • @EmperorCesar You can't go wrong with it. It's good stuff.

  • I ran out of my George Dickel #12 750ml....so I bought the 1.75 ml brother :). That's how much I enjoy their product. Also, if you have the opportunity to try their Barrel Select product, it's equally yummy.

  • @MathewsWire Good video response. Couple of clarifications. NAS (no age statement) bourbon or TN whiskey is more common than having an age. When whiskey is in the kind of price range as Dickel 12, age statements are most times non existent; Jim Beam, Evan Williams 1783, Jack, Buffalo Trace, etc. Also I would greatly like to see this above 90 proof also, but again, you have to look at the price. It's a lot more expensive to bottle at higher proof. Considering the target mkt, 90 is in line.

  • Front row of bourbon shelf: Knob Creek 9, Maker's Mark, and of course George Dickel 12 yo.

Second row behind... 1 more bottle of each because it'd be a tragedy to run out of any of them.

  • great review. i just picked up a bottle of this a week ago and enjoyed it for the first time. what a wonderful whiskey it is. i agree with your assessment as to the value for the price.

  • @jboothe7 What's amazing to me is the great outpouring of comments and support of George Dickel No. 12. I love that, especially as a Tennessee resident. : ) The whiskey on its own is great, but the price makes it an outstanding value. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks again for the comments - I love it. Keep 'em coming!

  • Great ANSWER with the charred OAK + AGE.. I'm reading about RED LAYER now. I literally before believed it was REAL chewy TOBACCO! I'm assuming from you comment 'CHEWY Tobacco quality' 'doesn't come out often' mean the amount you pick up can vary from glass to glass or bottle to bottle IS RARE BREAD Delivery satisfying as some drinks the characteristics are JADED somehow. I never like WT80. Was thinking WT RYE as BEAM RYE maybe to too simple flavor but is cheap as.

    .

  • Thanks for the comments j2ndcaptain. I definitely think Dickel 12 has some tobacco notes that are also revealing on the nose. Rare Breed, a Wild Turkey bourbon, has a definite tobacco and leather quality to it. I suppose when dealing with perhaps sour mash and grains (natural products obviously) and then aging in the charred oak, that can bring out some of those tobacco like qualities. It doesn't come out often for me, but I do like it when it does.

  • To Jason Pyle. DICKEL no 12 is the BEST COMPLETE DRINK I've Had and Always wanted. Unfortunly its not available in Australia and manage to sample a vintage plastic 50ml in auction. Wanted this for years. Endless others for convient and never quite right. Just in the glass it so special. CHEWY TOBACCO at back of throat, cremy at lips, deep wrams from deep in the body rises. Never too sour. Saw this in FUNNY FARM Chevy Chase +TV show episode entitled 'split second'.

  • Well I would say that, first and foremost, water is your friend. You can easily turn a harsh whiskey into something easily drinkable with a splash of spring water. So I'd start with taking what you enjoy today and experimenting with water to get the percentage of alcohol down a bit.

That said I think some great whiskeys to try are Elmer T. Lee Single Barrel and Evan Williams Single Barrel. Both are very composed and smooth. Very drinkable bourbon whiskeys at a great price to boot!

  • @jmpyle1 . Which other Whiskeys have the lovey CHEWY TOBACCO in back palate like the OUTSTANDING 'DICKEL NO. 12'.

Any mass market ones out there?? Also is there an interesting History in this Tobacco in spirits.

  • Hi Jason, I'm currently an avid Old No. 7 drinker. What would you recommend personally as the smoothest, mellowest sour mash whiskey? I find Jack Daniels Singel Barrell personally as too harsh. I've heard good things about Gentleman Jack and ofcourse George Dickel's No. 12. Any others you might recommend?

  • I totally agree with you on George Dickel!!! How about a review on Rye Whisky and Bulleit Whiskey?? Thanks for the George #12 review...excellent description...keep the reviews coming!!

All thats missing is a good Cuban cigar.....Cohiba,Punch, or Fonseca!!

    Sorry Jason.....Go Sooners!!!!

  • @Teesnospos No doubt, a cigar would have been a nice compliment to it. I need to review some cigars and bourbon/whiskey pairings once day soon. I have a review of WhistlePig Rye coming and a couple other Rye's in the works. Will definitely have to review Bulleit also. It's a high rye bourbon that is great in cocktails.

    Thanks for watching!
