1.F.C. Cologne forever! Danke Wolfgang! As many probably know here in YouTube English, Herrn Overath has been at the helm of 1.F.C. Koeln for a number of years recently. He's seen them through the "dark days" in the 2. Bundesliga and back to presence in the top flight. He helped win the way for favored son Lukas Podolski to return to Cologne after two years of absence at FC Bayern. Due to the mercurial and vocal, often charismatic Cologne press and media, leading the FC club is not easy.
Easily one of the gifted, yet most underrated players in German history. In the years where German team is dominated by the brilliance of players from FC Bayern and Gladbach, it is easy to overlook the contribution of players like Overath. Yet one have to wonder; should he is really not that good, why would Brazilian newpapers voted him "The Best Player" in the WC1970 when the likes of Pele could easily get the nod?
Overath was brilliant, I saw him play three or four times live, late in his career (including a charity replay of the 74 WC Final - where he was one of the oldest but played like the youngest). Very intelligent & creative player, and just the most beautiful ball passer. Also, it seemed as if he could play for hours, never seemed to stop. Would be worth tens of millions today.

Overath - 70's football genius. German footballers of the 70's were too fucking cool for words.

The opening statement is very false. People barely have even heard of the guy.
