The Kawanishi N1K2 Shiden-kai. This aircraft was one one heavy hitters of the Japanese Navy with its powerful 2000Hp Nakajima Homare engine and heavy armament comprising of 4 x 20mm wing mounted cannons. The 343 Kokutai flying a mix of N1K1 and N1K2's and severely out numbered, downed 25 US aircraft during air battles near Okinawa in March 1945 for the loss of 15 Shiden's.
Thank you for posting one of my favorite Japanese WW2 aircraft. It is a commendable act to recover and restore the plane from it's watery grave. I hoped to visit her one of these days. By the way, are those paper cranes scattering on the floor? cj
