  • FINALLY! Somebody has caught on!

Another thing is that if you don't do it the teachers act like it's A criminal offence or something if you don't do it

  • I agree with everything that they mention... they do exspect us to be superheroes, they do exspect us to do everything right and perfect... its not fair to every single person thats in school. I'm homeschooled for one of those reasons... i honestly think its way easier and i'm more free with myself. I met these wonderful friends that don't care about being popular and they never said "you can't be with us, you're too lame." I experience more and less tests and those stupid heavy textbooks...

  • China has a more brutal education system.

I think the USA is starting to directly compete with this hellish Chinese education system.

However just because Chinese kids work 3 times harder (and mostly by rote) than American kids, does not mean that the system is right nor should it be emulated in the USA.

The key point that the USA needs to remember and teach the kids is : Work SMARTER NOT HARDER.

Then and only then will US economic advantage be maintained.

  • What about taking the focus off of all the over scheduling, we as parents do to our children? It's not only the stress of their education, but the stress of having to play multiple sports or join several extra organizations. Take the focus of having to be the "best" at everything and put the focus back in to learning and raising well rounded polite caring adults. It needs to start at home.

  • to me its seems that its all about money.

in jobs they want you to be realy smart so they can make the most money off of you.

in college they only allow really smart kids so they can have a higher grade average to get more money.

The rest is just prep to prepare you for how hard it is each year making it harder so they can be more prepared and be more willingly allowed into many colleges which because of the surplus of smart people the college set the bar higher.

  • Public schools are of course the vast majority of schools in this country, although the ratio of public to private I think is probably a lot higher than, say, Western Europe and Canada (and maybe Asia as well). I don't doubt that there are schools that overwork their students like this; my beef is the claim by this documentary that it's REALLY so widespread and not for a fraction of students at best. Of course, in a nation of 300 million, a fraction can still be a LOT.

  • I have no clue where these schools are, but maybe they should make a list, so we can make sure our kids don't attend them.

  • This is so true and it is scary... I am up late at night doing my homework on the weekends so I am caught up and don't need to do any more work for sunday if possible. I am a 12th grader so it sucks with college being pressed into me too since I am not going for maybe another year.

  • These kids are so full of shit. It's obvious that the people behind this "documentary" went out of their wya to find THE BEST KIDS from THE BEST SCHOOLS which, of course, are pretty fucking difficult. THIS IS NOT A REPRESENTATIVE SAMPLE! This is bullshit. Why should I waste my time on such a silly film?

AMERICAN STUDENTS HAVE IT EASY COMPARED TO THE WORLD'S BEST. We don't know how easy we have it. I'm not pretty, didn't play sports, and didn't do extracurriculars in school. I'm educated.

  • went to a good college, got straight-As, etc.

We're whining about how "hard" our system is, yet the Japanese, who have one of the most competitive, are not making documentaries like this. If anyone has a right to complain, THEY DO. Their students do. Not Americans. Did Reel Link Films go out of its way purposely to make our system look bad because they're a bunch of whiners who don't like working hard? Cuz they're bums?

  • SIX hours of homework?? What average school in the U.S. has you do 6 hours???? I only had to do homework for 1 or 2 max (maybe 3 on a bad day). Of course, I got home around 3 and went to bed at 10 or 11 (sometimes midnight) and got up around 6. If 6 hours of homework is too much for you, maybe consider GETTING OUT OF THAT HARD-ASS SCHOOL?? Just a thought. not whining in a documentary pretending it's the norm for all students

  • "In elementary school, I was worried about high school"? Did she REALLY just say that crap?? Did I REALLY hear her say that? What kindergartener GIVES A FUCK about high school?? That's 10 years away. Yeah... maybe a 5th grader will be a LITTLE concerned about it, but definitely someone in K-2. Or probably even 3rd grade. These people are so full of crap, their eyes are turning brown.

  • @whoo689 It's not about having to worry. When I was in elementary school, I knew I had to work hard and do my best. I didn't necessarily care, but I knew what was ahead and what was expected of me. That's what their saying. There's so much pressure at such a young age to prepare young students for the years ahead. So instead of cursing and formulating a poor argument. Think about what I being said a little, and realize the exact situation, not just what you believe it to be.

  • @whoo689 That's just your school then. I'm only in 8th grade, and the other day I was up until 5 in the morning doing homework, and I don't procrastinate. On average, I'm up until 2am doing homework. It's awful. And obviously, this stuff exists, and it's not healthy. So either your school isn't as competitive, you don't do all of your homework, or you race through your homework and just write crap.

  • @jazluva97 Where the hell do you go to school?? o.o I can't imagine a TYPICAL public school (not a charter, prep school, magnet or any of those other specialties) which accepts kids from all backgrounds within the area in this country would be THAT ridiculous with HW. It boggles the mind! Actually, I got straight As and Bs and did just about all my homework. Yes, I suppose you could say my school was 'less competitive' (regular public HS), though. Heh

  • @whoo689 lol I just go 2 a regular public school. It's pretty competitive. For instance, in math, there is regular, advanced, and honors. Being in regular math is considered being rlly stupid, but people in regular math are learning 9th grade math in 8th grade. Anyway, that's good that u didn't get that much hw!! I get so much...

  • School isnt ths bad. I'm not taking all AP; Im taking all honors and AP calc. (But 11th grade Honors English is the hardest English class in our school, harder than AP 12 grade english.) The only class I have a lot of Homework in is math, which really is the only way you can reinforce math. All my other classes give me a lot of projects, especially English. Its a lot of work, but I never have to stay up all night. I just don't like how 95% of the crap I learn is useless in the long run.

  • "Popular opinion may project Asians and Asian Americans as super achievers, scoring high on the SAT, dominating prestigious colleges and working as high-paid professionals, but the dark side of that narrative is that they are much more likely than the average American to commit suicide, according to a recent report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)."

Indian and Chinese children, and their parents, tend to be obedient drones and have already bought the big lie.

  • And after HW and sports...hey it is time for community service!! woohoo!

  • American kids are whiners..Chinese school children have 100 times more pressure than these American kids and don't whine half as much. That's why China is surpassing USA in education ability.

  • @BeijingVideoStudio U may have a point in that China owns the US now...but the US education system from the beginning was created to indoctrinate not educate....just mass producing servants for the system.

All this education education education and we dont make anything over here..total joke! I would whine too cuz

I don't want to be a servant robot either.

  • @BeijingVideoStudio actually, american kids play sports, which most asian kids dont.

  • @BeijingVideoStudio education is different now than it was in the past. when kids get overpressured they either

    a) put it off to have fun, but have awful grades for it

    b) do it all BUT have unbalanced lives lacking enjoyment and meaning

    c) and the least likely option....have a balanced life and still get work done

times are a changin. do you honestly think that many Chinese school children are happy?

  • Why is the comment below this one spamed? :S "Gotta see it" Isn't that good?
